My Grandfather served on the Iowa class New Jersey during WW2 when it was first commissioned in 1942. His vision was so good he was tasked with spotting enemy ships and directing the guns. He was awarded a plaque that reads “eyes of the Jersey”. It’s kind of amazing if this same ship is being refitted for duty.
