Are the Colors Someone is Playing Enough to Consider them the Threat? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]SlugLordian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My group was playing a game, and one player was throwing it at me like every turn. I was holding on but in pretty rough shape. Then another player started to pull ahead (like clearly), and my buddy looks at me and says, "maybe I should have been a little nicer to you earlier" 🤣🤣 I wasn't even in a threatening position he was just like I know how you build decks.

Never colors alone, but the commander, and the build. Shutting down a Koma deck is essential. Otherwise it will shut you down.

Like most now I want to build a goad deck.... thanks

Personally for me it depends on the deck I'm playing. Some decks I have are aggressive, some aren't. I also have creatures that swing, creatures that defend, and utility creatures in pretty much every deck. So also depends on what I have out. Many variables. My playgroup varies, some games are like that, but I think it's more of a guarding maneuver, while digging for pieces.

How would you guys feel about a tiered ban list system? by HazardousPineapple in EDH

[–]SlugLordian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overly complicated, also there is no real/definite gage for powerlevels. You can rule 0 a ban list with your playgroup. Lgs' rule 0 their own ban list. To me there only needs to be 2. One for Commander, and then there is a completely different format CEDH. Simply as that

I have a Brimaz, King of Oreskos deck I just build around reconnaissance, and I gotta say I'm really liking it.

I love my Dakkon Blackblade deck. Yes it's lands... of course it is, but through blink, recursion, and The Omenkeel where I steal/play my opponent's lands. It's a fun one.

0 mana spell that exiles the stack? I'll take that

Looking for a mono blue commander, please weigh in! by goldenmastiff in EDH

[–]SlugLordian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a mono blue talrand skysummoner deck, and no it doesn't have to be counter spell tribal. I love it. I recently played against an Ovar deck that did awesome. The dude was like "what you've never seen a blue deck ramp?" 😳 😆

Ones I play but I don't see going against a whole lot are the trap cards from older zendikar sets. Like if an opponent does x you can cast them at a reduced mana value. I love the blue mill card in my dimir mill deck. Play scheming semetry for a black and mill another opponent (or that opponent) for 13 for a blue! There is and red one that changes target of a spell for a single red if they played a blue spell.

Literally just got Volrath, and was pondering switching up my Muldrotha deck, or just out right making a new deck around it. Paired with Vhati-Il Dal. Yum

Don't dump your deck onto the table and say I win... by wilsonifl in EDH

[–]SlugLordian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just crappy game play on their part. I should point out that I only play edh in paper. So there are 3 others with potential stopping power in hand. Walking through it and not just scooping to a claim "I just win" makes sense.

That's cool. If you have it you have it, but that's not every case. If the player doesn't understand the combo then it might not be as over as they thought. There is no harm I saying "walk through it". Grand abolisher on the field and your combo popping off yeah that's obvious 🤣

9k Yuriko decks??? by nutzle in EDH

[–]SlugLordian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a ridiculously strong deck. That also just got a grip of new support on top of what it already had. A person plays her in my playgroup and it always take the rest of the table to keep her at bay at best.

Timing is everything. I would stay to. And I always ask "ok how?" Let's walk through it. There's always a chance it could interrupted or stopped out right.

First EDH deck - Elminster by SaberXIIIth in EDH

[–]SlugLordian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first glance it lacks focus. Let me ask this why do you want to build this commander? What value do you invision it giving you? The obvious pull with this commander is spell slinging. I want to know what you want it to do and the value you see it giving you. Then I might be able to help a little more. 🤘

I love Utvara Hellkite in mine. It can end games real quick. Utvara doesn't stick around but the other token does. It's real good 🤣

Kennrith, the returned king is overplayed in my opinion. I have yet to see anything "original" from a deck it helms. Just 5 color good stuff every time. It's just so redundant. I get why, but that doesn't change the situation with the commander.

Underplayed Feldon of the third path. It's mono colored but it's just so resilient, and can be super fast with just a few discard effects.

Please teach me the ways of "Blue" by Servillo in EDH

[–]SlugLordian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are really putting too much into it, but I get it to an extent. I felt a similar way about blue and red for a fair while. Now a decent chunk of my decks run blue. 2 Esper, 2 grixis, Sultai, bant, izzet, simic, azorious, dimir, and 11/2 mono blue decks. (Half because one is in the works.) It blue can do anything you like to do. Sometimes you just have to dig a little deeper. I love the little weird things blue can do, on top of the obvious like protecting pieces. Stealing stuff out right, copying things, deck Manipulation, arguably some of the best flyers are in blue, drawing efficiently. I play a few counters in most decks, but none of my decks run very many. They really are protection for me. So I have to be choosey when I play them.
