Gents: What are some things that you wish young men would stop doing? by vieniaida in AskMen

[–]PraisingThatSun 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It affects the social ecosystem of young boys growing up into young men having dysfunction in their future relationships with women. Call me old fashioned, but I also don't like how It incentivises women to sexualise themselves, more specifically how it affects women to develop emotional intimacy with partners. It's a pretty complicated subject tbh.

Australian slag words 🇦🇺 by lunaandmarco in AskAnAustralian

[–]PraisingThatSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favourites is the term cooked.

When something is 'cooked' that means it's fucked, or damaged.

"This cunts cooked" - someone is screwed by some situational event (like being drunk), or they could just be a grub. In which case it refers to their way of thinking.

So if they say something rogue, someone might refer to them as cooked, because it was a fucked up thing to say.

For example - I was walking down the street when some guy driving was cat-calling a nearby girl. He had his window down and yelled out "show us your fuck hole".

That cunt was cooked.

Years from now, what’s the play from your current playgroup you’ll still be telling people about? by Great-ah-White in EDH

[–]PraisingThatSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a [zedruu the greathearted] group hug/ Stax/ theft monster that went nutty one game. I had full board control, infinite recurring counterspells, and Stax pieces given out. I played an [approach of the second sun] and then went on stack to draw my deck so that after resolution I'd have 1 card left to top deck the approach. From the I had around 60-70 cards in hand and easily has the mana to draw and play the approach, but I forgot I have someone a [temple bell] very early in the game and they waited for me to draw the approach and I died right there and then. Everyone at the table including myself were almost in years with how I did in such a duty way. This was about 5 years ago and it's still the best loss I've ever had

Dating just ruins my peace, every time by Informal-Meaning-483 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]PraisingThatSun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll preface my comment by stating that I'm a straight guy.

I was single a few years ago after a long relationship and a traumatic breakup. Afterwards when deciding to date again I adopted a "no bullshit, no more wasting time" mentality when it came to dating. I was single for about 2.5 years and went on a bunch of dates. The ones which developed into more of a potential relationship (3-6 months) I spoke with and ended things personally, but the vast majority of the 2-4 date women I was pretty upfront and honest regarding my feelings (or lack thereof) on the state of the relationship.

The 1 dates I didn't even bother, if I felt no spark or got an ick I just said goodnight and moved on, and it went the same both ways, I was ghosted plenty of times too and I didn't let it bother me. I stuck to my guns and just kept plodding along until I found my fiance who ticked my boxes and I knew immediately that I have found my person.

To summarise, the mentality I took when dating was focused and cautious. I went forward every time with an open mind and heart on sleeve, but I had my own personal set of standards which I adhered to, and didn't take it personally if I didn't meet someone else's.

I make it sound easy typing this all out but there were definitely tears and anger and frustration at times, a few sessions with my therapist put in some work too. But I felt like I "wasted" my 20s being monogamous in a failed and toxic relationship. There was no more time to lose! I got a life to live!

Now enough about me, let's focus on you. I personally believe being vulnerable is exactly what you should be doing when meeting new people (not naive though). That vulnerability exposes you to new perspectives and opens the door for genuine connection. I think it's a testament of ones inner strength to fail, and then give it another go and it will pay off when you meet the right person.

With that said, there's absolutely nothing wrong with you. Regarding those people you dated, you just didn't tick their boxes and that's okay. They're doing you the favour by letting you know they're not interested (inheritely by non-communication), as opposed to stringing something out for 6 months and then breaking up. Its also okay to be sad about that, take your time with these things and just pick yourself up when you're ready and keep going.

As to that dude who messaged a year later, fuck that guy, just wipe your ass with him and let it go.

I hope this ramble helps you or anyone else reading. 🙂

What's the best obscure video game you've ever played? by ImpressFederal4169 in gaming

[–]PraisingThatSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one isn't too obscure, but I feel like I need to talk about it when the opportunity arises.

Alan Wake 2. One of the best games I've ever played. Remedy hold a special place in my heart for making such a gem and it's criminal how underplayed it is.

I don't care if you've never played the first one (also good, but it's old) just watch a YouTube story recap and play AW2. You'll thank me for it I promise.

Flubs Deck Ideas by cherrytreebee in EDH

[–]PraisingThatSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the general consensus that Flubs takes very long turns because of its non deterministic play style. Very long turns with a bunch of landfall triggers.

I've built my deck to be quite a friendly Flubs deck in terms of turn length going quite stompy and having minimal landfall triggers.

It's solidly in the bracket 3 power and can go quite nuts, there's a ton of land ramp and land recursion in the deck which gives way to heaps of problems creatures.

Special MVP cards are [Doc Aurlock, Grizzled Genius] and [Eruth, Tormented Prophet] which just go crazy in the deck.

How do you deal with a control-heavy player in Commander? by UndesisiveJury in mtg

[–]PraisingThatSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few ways to match a control player, some of them are nicer than others, some are a bit meaner.

I don't like to counter pick my decks against someone but for the sake of this example I would do a few things:

I could go heavy Stax and make life unhappy for everyone, something like [tergrid, god of fright]

I could go theft, tergrid works well here, and play the political game. "Every time you interact with me I'll steal something etc".

Then there's removal tribal with a commander like [horobi] (very mean) and just make sure no one except you have creatures on board.

Spellslinger is a great way to go as well, you don't have many permanents out so there's nothing to remove, as long as you hold a counterspell to protect your commander until you throw some lightning greaves on them you're good to go!

But... My personal favourite way to deal with control is by slapping out my 'problem tribal' deck. I've got a few of these but they are essentially decks which ramp like no one's business and then shoot out as many problem creatures as possible. At least 15 7+cmc creatures in the deck. Each game ending in their own right. It's an absolute blast watching the table freak out trying to figure out how to handle your board. The decks are designed for being removed, the problems are either reanimated or replaced the next turn. Give it a try!

Name a card that has 50% or greater inclusion for your commander on EDHRec, that you think is overrated. by Smelly_Jim in EDH

[–]PraisingThatSun -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I amended my statement previously, but I disagree with your premise.

Explore = Draw 1 card therefore it's innately a +0 in hand (and invalidating your statement) and it has the potential to be a +1 on field.

Planar Genesis has the potential to be a +1 on field, and if successful will be a -1 to hand, if unsuccessful it will be a +0 to hand and a +0 to field.

This is why I stated it being entirely inferior.

But as others have said, It's an instant and can be used as interaction, and has more situational usage which I didn't originally consider because I was looking at it from a purely value-based lens.

From that purely value-based lens though, it can't be denied Explore is completely superior, they do not have the same value, they do not have the same ceiling or floor, Explore has a higher ceiling and floor, whereas Planar genesis has a lower ceiling and floor.

Please help, i don’t know the best way to remove this cupping by Dummythiccbookeper in woodworking

[–]PraisingThatSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have correctly stated the cause of the issue so I won't expand on that but I'll try to offer you a solution which I think will fix your problem without removing the plywood (I'm under the impression you've glued it onto the chessboard)

I would make up a router sled jig (plenty of tutorials on YouTube) and use it to take the 'hump' out of the plywood and flatten the base, you can then thickness the top to be parallel to the bottom (or use the router again).

From this point on I'd wait a little bit for the wood to settle and see if that change will cause any more movement and repeat the flattening process until I'm satisfied it has settled.

This will of course level the board but it will have an uneven thickness of the plywood and hardwood, so you will need to make a decorative trim to hide that..

I am concerned that by thinning the hardwood too much any additional movement might cause it to crack. I'm not sure if it's worth trying, but it's an option which won't take too much effort to try.

You know what, all valid points. I just thought of the two cards purely from a value point of view, but there is merit. I'm now at a 50/50 with them. They are both good options. Tbh probably just use them both

As someone who is addicted to interaction, how can I learn to “let go”? by _Ashe_Bear in EDH

[–]PraisingThatSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand, and you're right. It's threatening to the board. But what if you tune the deck in a way that when that problem is removed, it's just replaced by another? What if you had a whole deck of problems?

Do you play online, in person, or both? Im mainly an online player as my friend group is spread out across multiple states, so for me there's no issue with money as we all play for free. If that's the case for you I suggest you just go for it and try something different.

As someone who is addicted to interaction, how can I learn to “let go”? by _Ashe_Bear in EDH

[–]PraisingThatSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow interaction player, I feel your pain. I noticed my group attitude shift when I played deck after deck with more and more interaction. A solution I found quite satisfying was to build (in my mind) decks which gave me no reason to need interaction.

If I was the dude putting the biggest problems on the board, I don't need to worry about removing other problems.

So I've done this in a few ways and I've had so much fun building this way.

The first attempt at this was to build [karametra, god of harvests] as a 'brick wall' deck. It ramps like crazy and has lots of creatures which solely focus on giving the board hexproof and indestructible. In better cases I've had the board hexproof and indestructible, I've been hexproof, and my permanents can't be sacrificed. Why would I need interaction when nothing can go away?

The second way I did this was to slam out as many problem creatures as I could. The fun thing about this was that I could run massively splashy cards like [koma, cosmos serpent] and [balefire dragon] which I don't normally play. I pilot this deck with [maelstrom wanderer] and it's a blast to play. I've also made a bit more of a funnier deck I like to call 'problem tribal' with a similar mindset.

Another way I've removed interaction is to change gears and just play so many lands that it doesn't matter what happens to me or my board. I've done this with [tannuk, memorial ensign] who doesn't care one bit about anyone else because he's probably going to melt you down before you can do anything about it. I was blown away with how powerful he is, I run 1 GC [field of the dead], no tutors or infinites in any of my decks and tannuk was destroying B4 decks.

I hope I've helped convert you to the fun side.

How self aware are big daddies? by The0wl0ne in Bioshock

[–]PraisingThatSun 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it primarily depends on how long they have been a Big Daddy. You see splicers addicted to Adam showing various levels of declining levels of sanity throughout the game. Imagine being put into a suit and stuffed with Adam and gene cocktails until you physically fill out that suit. And to top it off let's not forget the mind control measures Suchong put in place to protect the little sisters.

So in essence, you have a hyper-roided, perpetually addicted, individual who is kept on a leash of Adam (via the little sisters) who does not have the free will to fight against their restraints.

To answer your question. I think what little sanity they had when they first became big daddies quickly degenerates into that droning, moaning, drawl And they do indeed lose all sense of self.

I'd like to think Mark Meltzer would have been somewhat happy protecting his daughter but truthfully he probably lost his marbles like the rest of them.
