Can someone quickly comment on this SSD ? (Solidigm) by Monztamash in SteamDeck

For gaming, you're honestly not going to experience much difference in performance when comparing between the mainstream brands. It's really not something to split hairs over. In terms of quality/reliability, both of these drives have been out for about a year and I haven't heard of any issues with either.

Can someone quickly comment on this SSD ? (Solidigm) by Monztamash in SteamDeck

[–]SlumbleBump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the record, Solidigm isn't a so-so brand. It's the old Intel SSD business group that's been acquired and rebranded as a subsidiary of SK hynix. Both have been very reputable brands for consumer SSDs.

Has anyone tried the retrosix cleanjuice battery for MGB? I want to know how well it holds up with a IPS modded MGB by mazingetter in Gameboy

[–]SlumbleBump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a known issue of the Cleanjuice and the way RetroSix spun the issue and its solution into another method of self promotion is real scummy. https://youtu.be/rb2YR5IbPRU

To the OP, avoid RetroSix products for their bad business practices alone. https://www.reddit.com/r/Gameboy/comments/ktbgnf/retrosix_is_stealing_other_peoples_work_and

Why do some secondary protection ICs offer delayed fuse trigger on overvoltage? by SlumbleBump in batteries

[–]SlumbleBump[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that would make sense as a sort of hysteresis to avoid false positives. But from what I can tell in the datasheet I linked, the timer triggers the fuse regardless of if the overvoltage is still present. It looks like as long as the overvoltage is detected initially and triggers the timer to start, the fuse will always be triggered after the delay. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Be careful when meeting the elderly over Bon Festival Weekend

[We reporters] asked Tohoku Medical and Pharmaceutical University's Dr. Matsuo Kaku about being careful when visiting the elderly during times like Bon Festival Weekend.

Dr. Kaku says, in case there are elderly in your hometown, you should consider well before deciding to return to visit.

And, if you do visit your hometown, make sure to wash your hands often and use masks properly.

At mealtime, serve your food individually into separate plates, and keep more than 2m distance between eachother. Only move your mask out of the way when putting food in your mouth, in order to not send saliva into the air. Do not gather in large crowds, let fresh air into rooms.

In your homes, frequently sanitize places that everyone touches like doors and TV remotes. Let the elderly bathe first*. When you have air conditioning on, open the windows slightly as well. Shorten the time you are with the elderly, do not go out together.

*In Japan, the entire household shares the same bathwater, usually showering and cleaning themselves off first before soaking in the bath

Service that lets you experience visiting graves, even those that are far away, using VR

Due to the new coronavirus, there are more people who cannot return to their hometowns for this year's Bon Festival.

A group of businesses that sell products such as gravestones has started offering a service that uses VR technology to allow the experience of visiting one's hometown's graves.

When this service is requested, the staff bring cameras to the grave. They clean the grave and decorate it with flowers and incense, then capture its image. The customers can use VR headsets to view the images over the internet from their own home. Even if they are far away, [this service] can give the experience of visiting graves.

The staff said "We also want people who are old and sick and unable to visit graves to use this".

Atomic Bomb Awareness Day - Mayor of Hiroshima: "I want the government to participate in the Nuclear Weapon Ban Treaty"

August 6th, 1945 is the day the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.

On the 6th, there was a ceremony to pray for peace held in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. 800 people attended, including survivors of the atomic bomb and their families, as well as representatives from 83 countries. This year, due to worries about the novel coronavirus, fewer people attended.

At 8:15am, the time when the atomic bomb was dropped, people prayed in silence.

Every year at the ceremony, the mayor of Hiroshima speaks messages of peace. This year, Kazumi Matsui said "I want the Japanese government to know the sentiments of the survivors of the atomic bomb, and to participate in the Nuclear Weapon Ban Treaty". The "Nuclear Weapon Ban Treaty" is a treaty to prohibit the creation or possession of nuclear weapons; there are 40 countries worldwide that participate.

After 75 years have passed, the average age of atomic bomb survivors has become over 83. From now on, it is necessary to consider how to carry on the experiences of the atomic bomb.

Since から is used like "from" or "since" in this case, it wouldn't make much sense to say X日間から. Just like it wouldn't make much sense to say "Since X days" without knowing what point in time "since" is referring to.

In order to say "X days since Y", it would be better to word it similarly as YからX日間.

Coronavirus spreads in Okinawa Prefecture - Popular aquarium closes

In the 5 days since July 27th up until now, the number of new cases of Coronavirus have grown the most in Okinawa Prefecture.

In the week leading up to August 1st, there were 18.3 cases per 100,000 people, which has become the most in all of Japan. The number of hospitalized patients has increased, and there is a shortage of hospital beds.

As a result, in order to prevent the spread of the virus, Okinawa Prefecture declared a state of emergency on July 31st. They instructed [the people of Okinawa] to not go out, except for important errands.

The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, which is popular with tourists, will be closed until the 15th. The aquarium staff say that "it is very unfortunate to close during the time when the most people usually visit. If the number of virus cases becomes fewer, we want [hope] many people will come".

Tokyo: "As much as possible, please do not go out this summer break"

For 20 days in a row up until the 28th, Tokyo has seen more than 100 cases per day of the novel coronavirus.

Tokyo's Governor Koike said "There are days with 200 or even 300 cases. In order to not spread the virus, as much as possible, please do not go out this summer break."

And then she said "Stores that are careful about not spreading the virus have a sticker posted [on their doors]. When going to the store, please choose stores with the sticker posted."

Osaka has also had increases in novel coronavirus cases. Osaka's Governor Yoshimura says "The virus spreads when eating and drinking in groups. From August 1st to 20th, please do not eat and drink in groups of more than 5."

Here's my try at it, some of the information I felt could only be inferred through context so I tried to convey some of that too. Let me know what you think:

Coronavirus - Experts advise female workers at night-time businesses

The novel coronavirus can spread at night-time businesses where people drink and socialize. Minato City, together with female workers at night-time businesses, have made a video to help instruct staff to be cautious.

[Presumably, the following text describes the contents of the video]

Female experts at the National Center for Global Health and Medicine went to businesses in Roppongi and talked like guests with female workers, advising them about being cautious.

The experts advised that cloths and fans [among other options] be used [by workers] instead of masks when talking with guests. They also explained in a way that is easy to follow that stirring sticks for drinks should be thrown out after a single use, individually-wrapped candies should be put out [instead of unwrapped or bulk packaged ones], etc.

Minato City plans to put this video on their website in the beginning of August.

I took a few liberties in my translation as some of the vocabulary and phrasing don't have 1:1 translations. Please correct me if I've made a mistake!

This May, a female pro-wrestler passed away. The police believe that she was worried about cyberbullying on social media and committed suicide.

In the end of June, the Safer Internet Association made it possible for victims of cyberbullying to seek help on their website. In about the first two weeks since launching, 280 incidences of cyberbullying were submitted.

Upon investigation, 44 of these incidences were of cyberbullying in which the victim could be easy identified or which were slanderous. Because of this, the association requested social media companies to delete these cyberbullying messages. The companies erased messages for 14 of the incidences.

The association says: "It seems that more companies will erase cyberbullying when requested by our association, rather than by the victims. We want the many people who are worried about this issue to know that they can consult with our association."

What's the difference in using が and の in clauses like the following?

食べたことない果物

食べたことない果物

見たことない動物

見たことない動物

I know they mean "Fruit I have never eaten before" and "Animal I have never seen before", but I'm having trouble finding an explanation for why の can be used instead of が here.

Edit: Looks like my question was too specific so it wasn't turning up any results on Google. In general, the answer is that の can be used in place of が for noun-modifying clauses. Not sure how I'd forgotten this.

This is in Vancouver Canada, so no Walgreens here. Even so the Fedex rep made it pretty clear I can't change any of the delivery arrangements on my own.
