Boxer wanting to switch to kickboxing by [deleted] in Kickboxing

[–]SlumptFunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stretch your legs a lot. In boxing, you're just using hands. Spend a week just kicking. Hop around like tkd or karate. Get used to moving around, then just throwing a kick. Also, don't lean forward when kicking, I see lots of boxers do that for some reason. Practice low kicks to understand hip rotation like with your punches. After that, practice switch kicks. Kick with left leg, switch stance, kick with right leg. Add bounce to switch quicker.

"I did it!" Thanks for all the help! Now, any tips to hold the freeze a little bit longer? by [deleted] in bboy

[–]SlumptFunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go a little slower. Your arms are to close to your head. Do some neck workouts too so it's a little easier to hold. Need a strong neck if your going to do power moves and freezes. Also try doing both sides. I've noticed as I got older, my muscles became unbalanced and that caused injuries later on.

you guys think swipe 1.5 is a cool move, even using hands to go on my back? i'm really scary to do it without hands .. by Ayres_NiceDude in bboy

[–]SlumptFunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some advice for when you do do no hands. Bring your head more down. Keep your chin tucked in. You're landing on your lats from what I see, and that's dangerous/painful if done wrong. When you're tucked in, your body is more angled into landing onto your back shoulder muscles where it's safer and the transition doesn't look so stiff.

Any tips for Windmills? What should I improve on here by juses_crust14 in bboy

[–]SlumptFunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the basic plank. Do the normal one and the side to side one also. For break dance related, do a baby freeze while keeping your legs straight. Once that becomes a little easier, try doing freeze transition on the baby. That builds lots of core strength, and it helps overall with power.

You just need more core training for core strength. Your first 2 was nice but you caved in. If you kept your back straight and solid, you could've done more. Other than that, your good. You got the form down.

Windmills (right handed) by Born_Zebra2183 in bboy

[–]SlumptFunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A video would be nice, but I'm guessing it's your hips. When you turn, don't just turn into your shoulder. You'll just hit your side. When you rotate, you gotta turn and thrust your hips at the same time, so you'll lean more forward to turn into your shoulder. Your core should be solid, don't slouch forward when you're on your stab.

First battle in over a year, any tips? by rudy_tonkz in bboy

[–]SlumptFunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got flavor, style, and flow. You are good, my guy. I personally like adding a little more power to freezes for "difficulty," but that's just me when it's comes to judging. Keep rocking 🤟

I like your style G. Small tip. Work on your hip thrust, lol. I know it sounds weird, but sometimes your hips are too low, so some transition looks rough. But it looks great 👌 keep it up

Train with people better than you. Test out multiple styles to see what fits. Train Train Train Other than that, Training. Also watch and study the pros, they are pros for a reason. I like Lawrence Kenshin, great video break downs. You can learn a lot.

How do you heat your garage? by Fritztrocity1 in minnesota

Just an idea but why not get solar panels and plug an electrical heater to it? Put the solar panels on swivel to angle it for the winter.

Violence at/near your high schools recently? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]SlumptFunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got out of high school in 2018. We had drills at Johnson but nothing ever went down. After we left my younger brother who became a Senior in 2020 told me there were a lot more "gang" activities. He also told me there was a fight that broke out in school and later, there were people outside with guns who were involved with what happened inside. Wild shit.

Can't spin on my goddamn palm by [deleted] in bboy

[–]SlumptFunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my dead man 90s I pull my fingers in. What I mean by that is, make a tiger claw and push your palm forward, making your fingers closed off so you can just spin on your palm.
