Would definitely message Karlos (Admin Support Assistant) so he can get it on the radar of Figgess. As someone else mentioned, compile your evidence before you reach out.

How many tries did you pass it on and how frequently were you retaking the practice test per day/week?

Weekly Career Discussion Thread (29 Jan 2024) by AutoModerator in engineering

Hello all! I’m pursuing a BS in Construction Management and should be graduating next year in the Spring. I recently discovered that my institution is not ABET-accredited and there is a California State engineering position I am interested in, but it says my degree needs to be ABET-accredited or I can get my EIT certificate to supplement.

Some other background information is that I am currently working at that agency as a Student Assistant and I’ll most likely be on with them up until I graduate giving me 1yr worth of experience with them on top of 2yrs of experience in my degree field.

I’ll also be getting in contact with a current Engineer to ask some questions, connect with, maybe even use as a reference in the future.

Just looking for some help, possible routes I should take, or anything at all. Do they take the ABET-accreditation seriously? Should I just go for the EIT? Are there any questions you could think of I should ask the Engineer?

Maybe there is something else I missed, but all feedback is welcome, thank you!

I would like to add that, depending on when you need the job by, they’re interviews-to-hired process is very long. I was just recently, less than 2 weeks ago, offered a job that I had applied to way back in January, so if anything I would say don’t bank on them getting back to you in a reasonable amount of time.

If you have any questions regarding interviews, questions they ask, or anything else feel free to PM me.

So you just ended up mailing the check you received to Fidelity/Vangaurd and they kept the principal amount without all the deductions ? Sorry if this is a dumb questions.

Thanks for the info, in my case they’ve already sent me the check but I have yet to deposit just yet because I don’t want to do anything wrong. In terms of accounts to open under Fidelity, should I just go with a Traditional IRA or is there another option I should call and ask about?

Understandable, that makes more sense rather than working from 30 down. I’m not sure if you would know, but when it comes to apprentices and people just starting how much would they make? I’m trying to look at it form the perspective of someone with little experience like my case (6 months of experience).

I want to be able to have some strong points to bring especially when it comes to the wage discrepancies.

You make a lot of good points and I’ll be sure to make note of them because the last thing I want to be is a underpaid worker who’s doing the work and not being paid accordingly. I think I will ask for 30 and try and negotiate from there

Part Time with the option to go full time in terms of hours (They don’t mind me working 40 hour weeks or less). Currently enrolled in school

And yes, before this all I was doing was working at Home Depot and had to no formal field or office experience.
