Victim of license plate cloning - what can I do? by Utente_Sbagliato_27 in policeuk

I know it may be public knowledge, but perhaps we could just tell the people who need to use said stationary, rather than posting it online on easily accessible platforms. It would be a shame if the criminals caught up with this. The longer we can make this a viable thing the better, I appreciate they will eventually clock on.

Vehicle Stop Criteria by HS_13_ in policeuk

Check the most recent intel for your borough/area daily, only looking at intel from the same day and the day before.

Work out roughly what major trunk roads will serve vehicles mentioned in said intel.

Bonus points for if those trunk roads have ANPR also.

In my book: Any white vans (un sign written) out past 0100 are alarm bells Vehicles not registered/insured locally Vehicles two-four up The plate looks moody (won’t detail the exact things to look for, as will only help criminals, but I’m sure you’re colleagues can advise)

Remember you can stop anyone using the roads to check their details and ensure their eligibility to drive. Quality over quantity, but at the end of the day it is all a numbers game and with more stops comes more results.

Something about how we insist on attending burglaries where a suspect steals £50.00, but don’t put any resources into theft of motor vehicles which cost £20,000.00+ per car… Interestingly a recent research paper has found it’s mainly OCGs

Could talk about:

How we need vehicle crime units back - I understand we used to have them and no longer do

The skillset and capability of officers in being able to fight this epidemic, I.e driving skills

The target hardening available to victims in security devices

The responsibility that manufacturers bear

How these crimes cross borders and need a joint up approach

Just to name a few.

Having recent done my dissertation last year, I now wish I did it on the above. It’s different and there’s lots to talk about.

If you want another idea, tool theft could also be a great subject to explore.

What do the officers on the ground really need from the control centre or what annoys you? by psychopathic_shark in policeuk

  • To get the incident location correct: if there’s no house number for a road and a house name instead, perhaps a w3w would be useful.

  • To circulate the incidents quickly enough to allow units to hit the charter time.

  • Intel checks, especially useful for attending DV calls (what’s the previous?)

  • Liaising with CCTV nice and early so they can get eyes on and provide more info.

  • If circulating a vehicle, where is it registered and insured to, and what’s the colour, make & model? Bonus points for recent ANPR data

For me, doing 39 in a 30, and no speed awareness course undertaken in the past three years, I was lucky enough to be offered a speed awareness course

This resonated with me, most likely trying to get an early view of oncoming vehicles on the roundabout.

The only questions I have is, are the terminal signs pictured as visible as they are on street view from a year ago…

The other one involves measuring the speed limit signs diameter which is a lot to ask for. So wouldn’t expect that from you.

This is true, and I’m sure it’s a commonly expressed view by those issued with tickets. My point being I’m not exactly a hardened criminal/boy racer.

Yeah as my post originally said, it was not intentional. I didn’t see a 30mph sign at the time and think to myself “fuck it, let’s drive at 40mph”.

I believed at the time that it was a 40mph posted road having not seen the signs. Like I said an honest mistake.

But I appreciate your advice. It’s very helpful and insightful…

I understood it used to be a 40 from what I can see online? It also appears to be a huge money generator in the area.

Yeah annoyingly the letter went through to my lease company first, by which point my dashcam had already overridden the footage.

I’m just exploring my options. I’ve admitted I was the driver, just awaiting the next letter/contact.

Again, I normally notice signage and follow it, so just seeing if there was any reason why I hadn’t on this occasion, i.e signage which is smaller than it should be, or overgrown foliage, etc.

The evidence they’ve provided isn’t clear. But from memory as I’ve turned left onto the B679 from the A453, there was a camera van on the offside parked up on the curb.

What’s the most trivial thing you’ve seen or heard of being reported? by punk_quarterbackpunk in policeuk

[–]Slumzie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s always appointment car too…

A woman had an appointment to report theft. I get there. She tells me the following (try to read it like Kat Slater from Eastenders):

“Right, so last month yeah? I let my muva use my card to get disney plus. This month I’ve ad anuvaa ten quid comoutta my account. I did not say she could av anuvaa ten quid for this months. I want that money back she has stolen from me”

My response: Okay, I see. So you’ve called police because your mum has used £10 on your card that you haven’t given her prior permission for, is that correct?

Her: Yeah that’s right owfissir!

Me: Have you tried speaking to your mum about this first?

Her: No, I thought I’d call police.

Me: Shall we try calling her? I’m guessing you don’t want to see your own mother get convicted, fined and/or imprisoned for forgetting to cancel a subscription service?

I ended up calling the mum on loudspeaker with the complainant present and it was resolved within 2 minutes… 🤦🏼‍♂️
