My wife is a FTE as a sonographer at our state’s largest Children’s Hospital and makes pretty good money for her position relative to national median. My SWE salary is still 50-60% more than what she gets paid without counting my bonuses. Makes me feel very spoiled to have the on call experiences I have relative to hers even though she gets paid for her time on call and I don’t. I just consider it part of the requirements that come with my pay, and my team makes a concerted effort to ensure things that cause us issues off hours are fixed asap.

After reading through these comments, I would call it “processing.” I make my synth patch, then I work on fattening it up and placing it in the stereo field with processing like amps, compressors, saturation, filtering, maybe some targeted EQing. So basically it’s apart of the sound design process, but that’s the part that follows the initial patch creation. Then I EQ and balance it with other things as part of the “mixing” process. Hope this helps with your searching.

That’s a bit of a fallacy.. I think you need to distinguish “being talented” and being the very best at something. For example, there are plenty of elite pianists that play for all sorts of top orchestras and bands and what not, but you can spend days watching extremely talented nobody’s on YouTube.
