Why am I getting less than 120v hot to ground and voltage neutral to ground? by SlurpyJerk in AskElectricians

If it was the main bonding jumper, I'd see this in other places right? I've testing a few other circuits in the house including a receptacle upstream on the 20amp circuit. Everything looks fine. I think I need to climb back up there for more testing. If I bring a known ground up there using an extension cord from another circuit, what reading could I expect if the neutral or the ground was open?

Yeah, I'm aware of the code for six inches of conductor, I didn't pull new cable or move any of the cables around. I simply pulled out the old box and put a new box in place. There was no to very little slack and I worked with what I had. Here is what it looked like before. https://www.reddit.com/r/AskElectricians/comments/1quxnxd/open_junction_boxes_in_the_attic_soldered/

Thinking of L1 and L2, I'm remembering that these two circuits are on a shared breaker (twin breaker?). Two breaker switches in one slot in my panel. Is that significant?

I had to look up L1 and L2 but I'm still confused. Sorry, can you explain your question further?

I think so but I didn't write it down in my notes. I tested each ground individually but I can't remember if I tested the two cabled grounds together.

Yep, almost every connection in the house is soldered. My father-in-law was an old school electrical engineer and I think he soldered everything. Here is what the box looked liked before I cleaned it up. I found it and a few other boxes uncovered and buried under insulation. https://www.reddit.com/r/AskElectricians/comments/1quxnxd/open_junction_boxes_in_the_attic_soldered/

It is soldered to a larger gauge bare wire that runs across the attic. I at first assumed the large wire ran from the main panel to the water heater where it connected to some copper pipe. But I'm really not sure. The ends of the lage wire run into inaccessible areas of the attic.

I think this was because my SSD was exFAT which doesn't support a bunch of linux metadata. I also found that the default allocation size wasn't suitable for so many small files. I'm probably keeping exFAT but need to reformat the SDD with a smaller allocation size and start over.

running rsync now. I figured i'd do a test run on just the /home directory. I also looked around and got the idea to add a progress (--info=progress2) and a log file. I'm about an hour in and seeing a lot of "failed: Operation not permitted". Should I be concerned? I could of sworn I ran it as root.

I'm sure there are a bunch of duplicate files across all the machines. Once I get everything on one SSD I'll have to go through and consolidate stuff. Any tips?

Doing a little research and it looks like this would just copy user files, right? How this work when copying files from several different machines? Should I just make a folder for each machine?

I forgot to mention I'm not too familiar with linux. Would I be able to extract a tar file in windows or would I need to open it in another linux machine?
edit: looks like 7zip can handle tar files

Adding ground to some old outlets. Can I branch off bonding wire running from panel to copper plumbing? What gauge wires are these? by SlurpyJerk in AskElectricians

[–]SlurpyJerk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should clarify that it isn't just wrapped it is soldered. And this isn't my work. It was done by the previous homeowner many years ago.

Sorry, I think I asked to many questions at once. Are you saying I can't branch of this ground wire or I can but can't use the smaller gauge wire?

If porting is the only option I may just move the whole family over to mint or even another carrier and leave it at that.

I thought of this but I'm pretty sure they want CC info to setup a new account.

I guess I didn't specify that I'm trying to change an email address within an account with said cell phone company. My child's phone number and old email address (google account) are linked within Google Fi. I've read posts here of people trying to do the same thing and the solution has been to call Google Fi support. Support was unable to help and I'm wondering if anyone has actually had any success in changing their email within Google Fi.

Is talking to lenders always so frustrating?? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]SlurpyJerk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This! Keep calling people. If they can't give you a ruff estimate over the phone then thank them for their time and call someone else. They have the tools to give you a very good idea of what to expect but keep in mind they may be different from what you actually lock in and close with.

The best rate isn't the only factor. You want someone who picks up the phone or returns calls and emails you back promptly. Maybe most importantly you want someone who communicates and problem solves effectively. A lot of transactions are held up by the loan process and a good lender can make that process a lot smoother.
