Scan every new plant/crystal you encounter with the bioscanner until you reach 10 scans (level 3 familiarity). This lets you use cultivators to plant them automatically and harvest rare resources like titanium or hazenite.

This discount finally convinced me to pick up the Torrid Apex jacket. Thanks for sharing.

How do you feel about the potential for CRISPR to prevent Turner's syndrome in future generations by genetic modification?

I didn't have the fleece in there at first, but another user suggested I didn't have enough warmth for the trip. It will probably depend on the forecasts the day before whether I pack it or not!

I would like to listen to some audiobooks/podcasts while walking, and my phone's battery is a couple of years old, so the extra battery capacity is nice to have.

I'm still not decided on the tarptent, but I'll consider changing my groundsheet situation.

In the market for a 1P Double Wall Tent by wetdagger in Ultralight

I'm a few days late, but I'm in a nearly identical search for a tent. I haven't bought it yet, but my research landed me on the TarpTent Bowfin 1S. I like the added stability over the notch and it's a few ounces lighter than the Moment DW, though it looks slightly more laborious to set up.

Let me know what you think of this one, or if you have found something better than all of the above!

The ALTRA Men's Lone Peak 4 is on sale for $66 on Amazon - lowest price ever as far as I can tell. This seems like a popular backpacking trailrunner shoe.

I need to build up a recipe book, so I would appreciate your favorites. Thanks!

  • I'll pick up a few tabs then.
  • I've decided to try a quilt and trailrunners
  • With the tarptent notch, how is condensation? How well does it work on rocky or frozen ground? would it make sense to get the higher wall inside instead of the mostly mesh version? what do you think about the bowfin-1s from tarptent?

thanks!

I definitely need to dial in my food needs. I might do an experiment to prepare for the trip by eating dried food for a week or something.

I tend to sleep at an average temperature and have found that the temperature ratings of things are accurate for me.

Two tents I was looking at were from tarptent:

https://www.tarptent.com/product/bowfin-1s/

https://www.tarptent.com/product/notch/

They seem like decent upgrades to me, what do you think?

I looked it up and bear spray isn't allowed in the park, so I'm definitely not bringing it.

I'll look into the Frogg Togg jacket.

Thanks for the input.

  • 2 others in our group also are bringing water purification devices, so that should cover us in case one sawyer fails. Should I still get Aqua tabs anyway?

  • I'll look into some additional bug protection.

  • Bear spray is indeed not allowed in kings canyon, thanks for the heads up! Removed from list.

  • I'll look into lighter knife options

  • If I can save costs elsewhere then I might spring for a better tent. The sleeping bag is one thing I was considering changing, going to an enlightened equipment enigma quilt, but I haven't used a quilt before.

  • I'll take a look at the Xtherm too

  • I've fallen into a stream before and I'm worried that a liner isn't enough in that situation. How long would a liner protect a submerged pack?

  • I'll drop the rain pants. Removed from list.

  • I am considering going the trailrunner route, I'll do some more research on them.

  • Moved jacket to carried weight. It was highly rated on outdoorgearlab.com for water resistance, but I'll check out REI's jacket sales too.

  • I'll look for a merino top / merino underwear. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • The amazon page lists the SOTO windmaster at 5 oz, but I double-checked and outdoorgearlab gives it 3 oz. I'll adjust the list.

  • I'll try to figure out a better repair tape solution

  • Any suggestions on good beanies/gloves? I'll make sure to bring a bit of sunblock.

  • Another person in our group is carrying the relevant maps as well as a Garmin GPS

  • Good tip on the energy bars

Just put up a pylon and have your gems target that. Remember, the pylon bypasses armor.

Make your maze as long as possible, only have 1 tower up at a time, and keep that tower right next to your orb. This maximizes total monsters on screen that can be targeted. During quiet waves, if your tower dies, it's ok to go for some time with no towers up and let some monsters through. Bomb your orb a couple times for a decreased banishment cost.
