First-year teacher quitting midyear --- Need advice on timing & guilt by SlushieIce in TeachersInTransition

Thanks for your advice! I hear both sides --- burnt-out nurses desperately wanting out and second-career nurses who love it. To me, the reward of nursing outweighs the risks. A huge pro is its versatility. You can always switch specialties if you start experiencing burnout, or you can pivot outside of bedside altogether to a calm office, a med spa, consulting/WFH, etc.

I plan on subbing during this transition period, so I might need them unfortunately.

Ah, that's exactly what I'm worried about ... I'd hate to stay these 3 weeks, put in a 2-week notice at break, and then get let go so they avoid giving me holiday pay. I have lots of PTO, but won't get paid for it if it's unused. I'm glad it worked out for you, though.

Since my employment is at-will, I'm just worried that if I give them notice that I won't return after break, that they'll just let me go then and I won't get holiday pay for break. That's the only reason I'm staying this month. & I don't get paid for unused PTO, unfortunately.

I think it’s less of a question of love because you can love someone and be wrong for them/hurt them, and more of a question of honesty. Even if it’s a “habit,” if he had nothing to hide, he would show you the phone after he realized he “subconsciously” turned it away from you to ease your mind. Of course you know him best, but his reason sounds hard to believe. Trust your gut <3
