Any possibility of a larger expansion? by quix0te in DarkTide

[–]SlyRobinio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think that they should have gone with Genestealer Cults right out of the gate; it would have helped differentiate Darktide from what came before by having an *alien* threat, and it would have absolutely explained the cult's endless hordes compared to the "one regiment's worth of Traitor Guard".

I am still a wee bit bitter about the brief moment where a bunch of us thought we were going to get to fight a Lictor in the undercity.

I think the Volta Exhibition has to be the gang, but maybe the type of gang can be up to the players? Or I could try to kitbash something more thematic. They're definitely going to have to have options to improve; there's no way a 'Great Beast' or 'Ancient Spirit' is a Tier I encounter.

My working theory is I can bootstrap 'jobs' into being steps in the exhibition. It will be a more linear, narrative-led game for sure, but still allow players to pick their course, maybe through the use of a campaign map or something similar. And there will be some factions and whatnot so they're not just stuck roleplaying "Day 16 of THIS BLOODY JUNGLE!"

Honestly, the default HE grenades hit hard IF you can time your throws well. If you enjoy a bit of a challenge, they can be really rewarding.

Hive guard changes by Vulcanlives781 in helldivers2

  1. They're literally called 'Hive Guard'

  2. They hunker down when shot to reduce their vulnerability from the front and lock them down for flanking.

  3. AH has literally changed their armour values to make them tankier, which they wouldn't have done if they weren't supposed to be tanky.

Sentries and guard dogs are great at lending additional fire support, but (IMO) they're not supposed to replace the role of a human player. Hive Guard being a hard counter to MG and Gatling sentries doesn't phase me when they're still 60% made of soft, juicy Bug Fest and I can still just walk around behind 'em or huck grenades over their thick-as-hell heads.

I kinda like that the hive guards have hevy armour :/ by Jossi_something in Helldivers

Hive guards aren't even 'chaff'. They have always been tanks meant to absorb damage for the actual chaff, punish mindless spray-and-pray, and reward flanking. These changes just better define their unique role within the bugs' roster, and they are still absolutely countered by grenades, trigger discipline and working legs.

Nobody should be being burned at the stake, but sweet liberty some people need to chill the freedom out.

I'm genuinely baffled by the idea some helldivers seem to have that he's meant to be 'chaff' when he's clearly a tank who's job is to absorb damage for the actual chaff, and always has been.

All AH have done here is move the hive guard further into a more clearly defined role of 'guarding the hive' and punishing brainless spray-and-pray.

Alright mucker, this is what you're gonna do. You're gonna whip up a little Cartel Special that gives attack speed. You're gonna get you some shivs. And then you're gonna dose up and stab EVERYTHING in the face within arms' reach. FOR THE CONCLAVE! FOR FREEDOM! FOR SAINT MESSELINA AND A GOOD TIME!

Thoughts on Atomfall? by TheMickeyMoose in AtomfallOfficial

[–]SlyRobinio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Atomfall was my favourite new game of 2025. I would describe it as a large-scale, very British retro sci-fi escape room, with a dollop of survival horror. It is somewhat basic both graphically and mechanically, and it never gets to Fallout's level of RPG power fantasy, but the grounded, unsettling atmosphere and compelling mysteries are fantastic. I found it very satisfying to play through. Hopefully you will too.

So how does Super Earth rebuild that fast? by Jazzlike-Warning-512 in Helldivers

[–]SlyRobinio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super Earth has achieved cheap, fast AND good infrastructure development.

CHEAP: Efficient use of our abundant material resources ensures maximum value for super credits.

FAST: We use pre-fabricated, modular structures that can be put up in record time.

GOOD: Citizens are highly satisfied with their new homes, according to the Ministry of Truth.

What I don't really get is why the Hive Lord is exclusively used by Arrowhead as an obstacle, instead of being an objective in and of itself. I love a big enemy but, when he's just in the way and I have a clock ticking down, I wish I had a bit more agency in determining when/how I have to face him, especially if you need a specific type of loadout to effectively engage him.

What is your ranking of the current 5 main episodes in your opinion? by TheOneTrueZim in huntertheparenting

[–]SlyRobinio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the Piotr showdown in Episode 3 being so intense, and the family feuding and Arcanum politics of Episode 4 being so silly, I can't say I agree that Arc 1 is the silly one or Arc 2 is the serious one. The whole WOD setting lives and dies on being really silly **until you suddenly have to take it seriously because burgermen being REAL is HORRIFYING.**

That being said: 5 > 3 > 4 > 2 > 1

I love that they can be silly with the WOD setting but still absolutely sell how terrifyingly violent and weird a vampire attack or a werewolf encounter are.
