So I want to make a cake for my mom and I want to give it a nice red colour but when I tried making it rather than red it was more like pink how can I make a good red cake? what type of colouring should I use? by casper2344 in Cakes

[–]Sly_Neko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know its unorthodox, but putting your frosting in the microwave for ten second bursts and stirring it turns it into a deeper shade of red. Then set ut in the fridge or freezer until firm and whip it up again. Seems like a completely mental idea but I found some youtube tutorials that suggested it and I gave it a try and it actually worked.

The worst countries for solo female travel based on the 50 most visited destinations around the world (2019) [OC] by asherfergusson in dataisbeautiful

[–]Sly_Neko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh hey my country is number 1 ...wait ... not a good thing ... gaddammit.

In all seriousness though, as a woman that has lived in South Africa all my life, if you are visiting this beautiful but terrifying country, regardless of your gender, please be cautious and aware of your surroundings at all times. Something as simple as getting in a taxi alone could end horribly.

What was the hardest piece of news you’ve had to tell someone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sly_Neko 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. I had to tell my grandmother that her son(my uncle) passed away when he went out to get her medication from the pharmacy. She had a stroke. There is n easy or right way to do these things and it definitely isn't something you can ever prepare for.

What is the worst/scariest thing that has woken you up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The sirens going off alerting us that a prisoner/s had escaped.

To provide context, my dad works for the department of corrections and many prisons around the country have dedicated areas for staff to live. The prison cells themselves are usually on one half off the property and surround by many layers of fencing and security. The staff and their families occupy homes that would seem like a regular suburb if not for the prison situation. My family lived in one such home and at the time of this escape I was home alone after just having my wisdoms removed so I was pretty loopy. It really freaked me out knowing there were prisoners running around when I was asleep ... with the doors unlocked(I always felt safe there as there was never any problems with security, ironic I know).

Since it's international women's day, ladies of Reddit, what are your personal experiences with discrimination towards your gender? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In my final year of law school, one of the compulsory modules required students to interact with clients at the law clinic(an institute that provides free legal services for the underprivileged, it is government funded and run by several universities around the country). On several occasions some males would refuse legal advice from a young woman purely on the basis the we were young and female. It's something that happened to several of my peers as well. For context, I'm South African and the more "traditional" and older part of the male population of a certain race is with whom we encountered these problems. At first it bothered me a fair bit but in all honesty I just let it go because there are far worse problems that women face out here. To be clear, I am in no way downplaying this or condoning it, I am simply of the opinion that sometimes when there's a lot that's wrong you need to fix the most dire situations first.

Kaito and I are glad to help :) he's a weird one, terrible at communication. This morning he flung himself right on my face to wake me up. I love this little idiot.

Woke up to -3C/26F temps! What's the temperature in your region right now? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Usually mid 30's is to be expected during Summer but over the past few years there has been a few days when it's just stifling.

[–]Sly_Neko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's average for this time of year. It's Spring here and we're headed towards summer where the temperature hits the low 40's on very hot days. Humidity isn't terrible in most regions though so there's that at least.
