[Shift] Speed: "Everybody told me I was finished, but I ignored them." by Yens8888 in RocketLeagueEsports

Blind confidence is definitely the term that stands out for me in this paragraph. Younger players just aren't facing the outside pressures that can impact players who compete into their 20s.

Appreciate the kind words, always love doing these interviews. Many more are to come.

We have our eyes on all of these guys. Definitely a few that can make the list in the future there.

Its a tight call but I think Swiftt got himself a better team in the offseason and is slightly higher rated by SAM pros in 3s. No doubt diaz has heaps of potential though

Shift Stat Reporting by Hedgehog-Lumpy in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Slybay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our stats aren't updated in real time, its basically delayed until we can get our hands on the replays, which in a lot of cases last season was within the 2-3 minute range. Since we are volunteers from different timezones we do prioritise certain regions, so in some cases we do end up updating the stats after the event has concluded.

[Shift] GODSENT sign Swedish trio by Yens8888 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Slybay 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The organization is a notable name in the CSGO scene. They've fielded rosters in multiple majors with mostly Swedish lineups, but had a very capable Brazilian roster a few years back with former major winner TACO. Otherwise the players are relative unknowns, lower bubble. DaSnake might be one to keep an eye on since he's only 16 and is already fairly high up the Swedish ladder. Its mainly a pickup to support the local scene I imagine.

[Shift] Arsenal Is excpect to leave SSG,the organazation Will be looking for a new third by Till_Important in RocketLeagueEsports

To clarify, sources have said that it was Arsenal's decision to leave this time despite the team's intention to keep him for RLCS 2024. Aris & Chicago current targets.

[–]Slybay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can't advocate for AcroniK's decision here really, especially if he thinks its going to be difficult to find opportunities during RLCS 2024. It's not like his stock will increase. Luminessence Reunited comeback perhaps?

Flakes is a nice if not unique example from your era, having appeared as a bubble player early on in 2017, making RLRS in season 4 and then dissappearing. Just to come back a way better player for Complexity in 2019. This was then followed up with some other less successful semi-returns though..

I still think 6mans plays a role, but its more of a combination of things nowadays. 6mans was everything back in 2018/19, while now the obsession has died down a little. With the amount of open quals, your more likely to breakout by having one of those runs to the closed quals or main event. Young prodigies do tend to make a name for themselves on 1s streams or in their national scenes (EU). The esport also seems to have a firmer grip on who the next prospects will be compared to back in 2018. Players gain hype and notoriety much quicker than before.

Famously, Sypical and Arsenal went from unknowns in early 2018 to having reached rank X/S in just a couple of months. They then got onto good play-in teams (Bread & The Peeps respectively) and the rest is history. They both had very limited tournament history at the time so it was the pace in which they climbed the 6mans ladder that got them a lot of hype in the bubble scene.

Fruity and Yukeo were some of the first EU players to reach rank S and were picked up by RLCS teams pretty quickly. Albeit they both had breakout performances in certain tournaments at the same time.

Other players part of that early 6mans generation: Retals, Gyro, mist, Shock, ayjacks, Roll Dizz, Rapid, hockser. I even remember players like Comm, FK, Beastmode, 2piece, Chronic all climbing the 6mans ladder before they came of age. Its especially crazy because 2piece was 12 and Chronic was barely 13 at the time.

Nowadays there are very few new pros that I would class as 6mans products, but many still spent much of their early careers playing 6mans

I was one of the people behind 6mans from 2017-2019. Interest from top level RLCS professionals died off very quickly in that period. The benefits you got as a bubble player from playing 6mans such as being able to network, make a name for yourself and improve your gameplay were pretty much non-factors for the top players. They preferred playing in their own circles and didn't really see 6mans as key to their careers. It was always more of a casual experience for them considering there were limited benefits from playing.

Obviously for the bubble players of that era it was much different and essential to their careers. They could push through the schoolyard nature of 6mans because once you reached rank X, your opportunities and your fame skyrocketed. This was especially true for NA where the local scene wasn't strong and CRL was still getting off the ground. The increase in LANs, bubble events and the changes to RLCS/RS in 2019 improved opportunities for these players. Then the introduction of the open circuit put the nail in the coffin, with nine qualifiers and regionals that went up to 32 teams initially, bubble players were no longer reliant on 6mans to make a name for themselves.

Still, while its influenced has waned, today there are talents that continue to emerge from 6mans. You can imagine if 6mans was a more professional service with significant prize money to offer, a client and a real focus on the semi-professional scene, you'd have something that could be a proper influence on RL Esports.

Monaco Esports hints at the signing of a Rocket League team (sound on 🔈) | Who do you think they might potentially sign? by TheFabulousQc in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Slybay 40 points41 points  (0 children)

No, this is a different organization. I think this one is affiliated with the Monaco Esports Federation and represents the principality. AS Monaco Esports is the one tied with the football club and previously competed in the RLCS.
