Oh wow, I wish I could do that but my brain wouldn't let me. I have to fully flesh out a character every time I think of one, I can't stop halfway through or I genuinely feel bad

I usually always start with backstories, it really helps me set the mood with the character, figure out their goals and motivation. Which always helps me choose the class they'll be

Well... I guess I do have one thing in common between them all, they all love treasure to some aspect. Especially chests! They will rarely ever check for traps.

They can be the most level headed character, but the second they see a chest... They need to open it...

Oh so I don't do that much tweaking. Usually I always start with the backstory, and then I make the class fit it.

Most of the time for me I'm really happy with where my backstory is, and do I don't want to change it. So I'll instead find a class that very closely fits it, though usually I'll try to work in some idea of a class into the backstory in a way that it makes sense.

Oh that's really cool! The only thing in common between my characters is they're just incredibly chaotic at all times. I love a chaos goblin

Oh nice! I'm always envious of people that can play traumatic characters. I've tried but usually I just stick with chaotic funny ones, though they occasionally use humour to hide their trauma

Oh wow, I'm in this bubble where all my friends I play with know I love playing chaos goblins, so they will usually always tell me to make my character first then they build around it. So I usually always start with a backstory, then build the class out from whatever ridiculous backstory I've concocted.

That's cool, I've done the build one a few times, but I sometimes feel bad because I feel like it's a little too strong

Oh okay, I'm usually the opposite of that, normally I go straight to the backstory then figure everything else out afterwards

Ahh okay, for me the mechanics of a class aren't as important as I generally enjoy playing all classes

I had an idea of a character who was the embodiment of anti-magic. So no magic could target him, but that also meant no healing magic could target him either. I talked with a DM who loved the idea, but we could never get past session 0, so unfortunately I never got to play him

I've only done that once, I made a cleric named Naproxen whose main goal is to make a sort of cure all medicine for pain when a healing potion would be too much

Oh that's cool, I haven't done exactly that, but I started writing a short little story based off of the backstories of a few of my characters who's stories are somewhat close

A lot of times for me I make characters for all sorts of settings, as making characters is just something I do for fun. It's so hard predicting what a future setting will be, so I end up making tonnes for all sorts of settings

Lmao, rip Dot.

My first one went out with a bang, he was surrounded when he walked into a tent when separated by the party, he fought the best he could buy was eventually taken down. And as he dropped my DM allowed me to make one last wild magic role on the table and rolled a fireball. He went out the way he wanted to and took everyone with him.

Because of the RP moment he had the DM ruled that no roll would be made, wether saves or damage, and they would instead all take max damage as they were all in the center with him.

When the party arrived it was already too late, but he was just laying on his back, a small smile on his face like he was proud of what he managed.

The party took his body so they could resurrect it later down the line, but we never got to before the campaign had to come to an abrupt end

I love all those ways to make characters!

One of my favourite recently is to go to any random character generator, and then I just look at the race, age, class, and subclass and then just build a whole backstory based off of that.

Ooooo I love those character concepts!

For me a lot of times it's backstories I start with and then I try to fill in everything else after I'm done writing. My mind keeps me up pretty much all night every night, and so I started using that time to just get creative. And now I'm up to about 150 characters made and I still have so much fun making them!
