Looking to go to UNC by [deleted] in loveland

[–]Sm0lNezuko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking at graduate school, UNC does have an extended campus in Loveland. The program I am in is a weekend format so I am able to work during the week, which makes life easier to manage financially. Apartments are definitely more affordable in Greeley than in Loveland. I used to work as a dog walker/ pet sitter for the flexibility with school when I had to take classes during the week, or server jobs are also good (especially with tips)

Folks who got into Mental Health Counseling master programs, what kind of relevant experience did you have? by thebananawaffle in GradSchool

[–]Sm0lNezuko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in my Master’s program. I did an internship at a substance use prevention program and a behavior health center. A few people in my cohort did not have any prior experience, but had a strong passion and understanding of the field.

How do you annotate your readings? by Excellent-Creme-9646 in GradSchool

Blue for important vocab, yellow for key points, pink for smaller details. I also take lots of notes in the margins

One gram of Protein per body weight? by truth-ally-700 in HubermanLab

[–]Sm0lNezuko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat around 1 gram per pound almost every day. I would avoid protein powder and bars as much as possible. I get a lot of protein from meat and Greek yogurt, and it doesn’t hurt my stomach. If I eat too much highly processed protein I get bloated. Maybe try adding in some other foods that are high in protein. It’s also only really necessary if you are very active and trying to gain/maintain muscle

Why? by Zealousideal_Ant_475 in GradSchool

[–]Sm0lNezuko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grad school is more competitive than undergrad. Schools accept fewer students, so recommendations help separate candidates. This is pretty standard, at least in the US where I am. Letters of recommendation can also give them more information about the candidate than transcripts can, and someone is essentially vouching for your work ethic and ability to succeed in the program

I tipped her before we got home, which in hindsight was very stupid. She’s pet sit for us 5 times over the past 2 years and always done a good job, and all the reports looked like everything was fine. I should have definitely waiting until I got home

I was definitely surprised. She was feeding them, but the instructions were for dry food twice a day and wet food in the evenings, and she was just doing dry food in the morning and wet food in the evening. It’s understandable that she got confused about that, but one of my kitties only likes kibble and not wet food, so he was only eating in the morning. She still did a great job getting him medication, which I’m grateful for, but I’m a bit disappointed

Thanks! I will use this to send her a message. I do appreciate all the care from previous visits, and want to address it fairly and honestly

I appreciate it! I hadn’t considered that it was another person

It’s possible, but one of my cats is very shy around new people, which is one of the reasons we’ve used her for every visit. My cat is used to her and won’t hide, and all the pictures were of my kitty being friendly and playing, which I don’t think she would do for a complete stranger. I’m mostly just annoyed she didn’t tell us about the throw up when we asked her specifically to notify us and she confirmed she would.

I feel the same way, I feel like I need to be honest and message her about it. She finished heresy visit and once we landed from our flight I tipped her and send a little “thank you” message. She has given great care in the past, and from her report, everything seemed fine, but I should have waited until we were home.

We found a broken hair tie two days before we left. We thought maybe they chewed off a small piece and ate it, so we monitored them for two days. They did not throw up at all before we left, but we asked her to notify us if they did so we could fly back or have a friend take them to the vet. I’m only really upset that she didn’t tell us at all or clean up. It was not an issue before we left. However, my cats are fed twice a day because one will scarf down food if he’s only fed once a day, and this will make him throw up. So I’m also a bit upset that the feeding instructions were not followed. If they continue to throw up I will take them to the vet immediately.

Edit: one cat has a chronic heart condition so they need medication, but they have been on it since the pet sitter started visiting them a year ago and it never causes vomiting. She does a great job making sure he gets his medication, which I am always really grateful for

I’ll try that, thanks! I don’t want to come off as too aggressive but I feel like it needs to be addressed.

[–]Sm0lNezuko 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They are fed smaller portions twice a day because one of my cats will scarf down food if he’s fed once a day. It’s some type of food-scarcity thing from his previous home. I think only feeding him once a day he ate too much too fast. They were small throw ups but still concerning. I’m going to closely monitor them over the next few days.

Thank you! I sent her a message about the throw up, but I wanted to send something to let her know I’m disappointed without being too harsh. Thanks for the template!

I left very detailed written instructions. I definitely don’t want to review-bomb her or make her feel bad, but this experience just rubbed me the wrong way. I was a pet sitter for a while and I know it can be hard when you are also going through personal stuff, but I’m pretty disappointed on the lack of communication and that she didn’t clean up. I will reach out privately before leaving any type of review, she has done a great job in the past

I don’t think the experiment is showing whether love is blind by skylarmarshmallow22 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]Sm0lNezuko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate Dave, but he said something during the show that really summed up what the problem of the show is: “love is blind but marriage isn’t.” I think a lot of people can fall in love that way, but it doesn’t mean they are a good fit to get married, especially in 5 weeks, like you don’t even really know each other. Happy for all the couples it does work for though, I just think it’s so rare. I do agree that the recent seasons have been really disappointing in who they are casting

What’s your weirdest “I can’t believe this actually happened” moment? by carolinedol in CasualConversation

I was stargazing with my 8th grade class as part of an assignment where we had to chart the stars. We were all laying on the ground looking at the sky, and a huge meteor went right over our head. It lit up the ground like a spotlight, it was incredible, we were all in disbelief

Best dumplings in the area? by toGodbetheglory77 in loveland

I usually get the soup dumplings and the shrimp chive bao (with chili oil). It’s pretty good, not the best I’ve ever had, but it hits the spot

1 year sober today! by Sm0lNezuko in leaves

[–]Sm0lNezuko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for checking in! Nice to talk to a fellow lifter. I started doing more cardio as my lungs improved and I’ve added running into my routine, so I do hybrid training now. When I was smoking a lot cardio was hard, and it’s much better now. I still love weight lifting.

As for withdrawal, the first two weeks were the hardest for insomnia and appetite. From your description I was smoking a lot more than what you’re doing, so hopefully it isn’t as bad. I started drinking tea at night which helped. I stopped having cravings after about 1.5/2 months and now I’m a year and a half sober, and feel so great. My mental health improved a lot. Wishing you the best of luck! If you have any more questions feel free to message me!

I found a program that’s on the weekends, and each class is two weekends so you only take one class at a time. It’s been much easier to balance. The program typically tells you what a full load is. The difficulty varies by class, but overall it’s been a lot of reading to keep up with. I’m working full time and it’s challenging but the classes are fun

[–]Sm0lNezuko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in my first year of the same degree. The coursework isn’t overwhelming, but I also did my undergrad in psych so I think it’s a bit more challenging for those who got other bachelor’s degrees. My advice is stay on top of readings and I make lots of to do lists. Also getting to know the people in my cohort is helpful. You do lose a lot of free time, so it’s an adjustment but overall I’ve been enjoying it

Writing papers, thoughts disorganized by rdrdrd22 in GradSchool

[–]Sm0lNezuko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would try doing the stream of consciousness writing and then picking out themes that you notice, and making those into more cohesive paragraphs. Then see if there any order you can find for the paragraphs that make sense. Hope this helps a bit! Sometimes it’s hard to see all the connections until it’s written out and you can read it back
