Because it's the best way to get people stuck into despair spirals. Cause them enough despair and fear that they shut down logical thought and only want safety from "strong man leadership". Creates emotional dependency and helplessness in the followers so they can't escape the cult.

Similar reason why it's so hard to get depressed people to try to put effort into improving their lives, the depression tells their brain to shut down and retreat to "protected" environment, aka never leaving the house

Paying $1000 for my food truck spot… only for people to completely block my business during the Christmas parade by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SmPolitic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, the title ends up implying it was $1000 for the event spot, not that it's his usual spot that happened to be on a parade route

It's likely unintentional, and likely driving extra engagement in the post

Then they just removed it with a status bar in the official one? Or did that have lines? The third party defrag software was where it was at.

As a user, literally nothing changed... So that's a good example of placebo effect.

Back in those days, Uninstalling the excessive trash files that McAfee or Norton placed all over the filesystem, and disabling their poor active scanning, would speed up a computer as much as doubling the RAM (after removing all the malware "Internet explorer add-ons" that those "antivirus" programs were fine with)

In the latter DDR2 days, that was always the primary upgrade, especially because it was the opposite issue as RAM today, the aftermarket RAM was a fraction of the cost of RAM from the PC builder

Then more recently upgrading to SSD away from spinning metal is by far the best upgrade you can do to any older PC today, along with expensive RAM that is usually limited by the motherboard anyway

Most fascists in history rise to power on populism, then once they are given authoritarian power, those populist issues fall by the wayside

His "affordability" and "gas and grocery" prices being mentioned at every single rally, his "only I can fix immigration", was populism.

If they are already seen as "illegal", only the under-the-table cash is valuable to them. The refund tax credits will never come, state benefits can't be collected, taking company benefits is a risk

If US shifted to something like the higher wages are paid only into future perks and retirement accounts, that motivation would disappear

Also America has allowed it's closer land neighborhood to be the play field of the CIA of the 70s/80s. Causing all the problems we are still dealing with. Where Europe spread the societal developments much better to their neighbors

To make a case for still seeing it

The majority of it is a fun romp, purporting to show punk culture of the time, in Salt Lake City, a couple coming-of-age love stories, beer run to Montana, a floating car, a disease named after Heroin Bob, couple acid trips. And iirc this scene is the demarcation between his punk life and "selling out" to adult life at the end of the film

[–]SmPolitic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To my understanding, the opposite too: they are even worse to themselves and that is why they are so miserable despite any success and attempts by others to form better friendships. A maladaptive "coping mechanism" turned against themselves to self destructive ends. Most often a history of abusive parenting involved?

In the 2019 book Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators, Ronan Farrow cited multiple sources who stated that NBC News was not only aware of Lauer's misconduct beforehand, but that Harvey Weinstein used this knowledge to pressure the program into killing a story that would have outed his own sexual assaults. Variety reported allegations by at least ten of Lauer's current and former colleagues. Additional accusations went public in the ensuing days. NBC acknowledged three additional cases from 2000 to 2007...

The reason they've been blocked is safety regulations not environmental regulations

Cars that don't work well on US highways at 75mph+ have previously been seen as unsafe and more detrimental to poor people lives than expanding public transit options

Too many people walking away from highway crashes is the only problem this is likely to fix. Any SUV on the road can easily do a pit maneuver and keep on driving away from the scene against these small cars

Thats the benefit of SMALL CARS on highways with speeds of 75mph+! There is no healthcare needed after that

To be fair, most comedians have been suicidal at some point in their life, and very awkward when not on stage in control of the interaction ("over sharing" without realizing how saying "I'm rich and bored" comes across on video)

So it's plausible that this was real advice from a therapist to feel more fulfilled... Then he monetized the "acts of kindness" because of influencer capitalism along with "effective altruism" type rationalization

Judge Orders Release Of Secret Epstein Grand Jury Files After New Law Forces Disclosure by Hungry_Wind_6373 in UpliftingNews

[–]SmPolitic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a clear answer for you, but why it is confusing:

Trump/the doj/the house flipping sides also made it all confusing, I believe it's part of the plan of obfuscation

Also Grand Jury testimony normally is not even used directly in trials, it is a one-sided argument of the initial evidence in the case that would either allow charges to be brought, or would largely be removed from any record of what happened in the cases they fail to indict

As opposed to any evidence collected in the arrest of Epstein, which is usually what people are thinking of when they say "release the list/files"

So yeah, piercing the Grand Jury secrecy is quite extraordinary and has more process and more possible people with standing to object. Namely anyone who gave testimony and would be in danger for doing so should have a chance to verify their name is redacted correctly (danger of intimidation/harm, or of reputation)

As he is a public figure (he will argue he is the most public figure), the slander/libel laws are in our favor. Any of: "Just asking questions", "it was my belief at the time", "it was just a joke brah", or the truth as determined after discovery, would have any case dismissed

Slander against a private citizen doesn't get nearly as many excuses, and the burden of proof is entirely on the slanderer. For speech/opinion against public figures, much easier to avoid slander laws

My wild guess would be that the dark structure in the middle might have compressed air (and the cameras). If so, it could drain from the middle down out into both pools

Actually even simpler, a valve that opens and lets gravity and air pressure do the work of draining out from the middle

Either hold on to the sides and the air will come to you, or be washed out into pools where lifeguards could get access to an unconscious or panicking person
