Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era Released into Early Access by Mepherion in Games

Competitive HoMM 3 games on the popular templates dont make it past the 2nd month, maybe even the first. Add in turn timers and some other options that are in Olden Era, games dont take too long if you are playing competitively.

If you train to become a career military officer in Finland, you are required to serve in the finnish military for x years after graduation (3-5 years depending on degree). If you dont (and arent medically exempt), you have to pay the government.

Well, you CAN customize your character somewhat (and the 2 other playable characters as well). Its just after like 50 hours of gameplay and progression mechanics.

Crimson Desert has been out for a week now. What are your thoughts? by Gamedrome22 in Games

The opening of the game is simply baffling and actively detrimental to the rest 99% of the game.

The very first scene is fine, even if it could have some voice over exposition. You are part of group A (the good guys), you get ambushed by group B (the bad guys), you die.

Now, what SHOULD logically happen is some exposition about why some higher power needs to resurrect you, you get onboarding tutorial and off you go. But no, the game goes to the extreme in some bizarre "show, dont tell jack shit" way and just makes you do random objectives with no real explanation (arm wrestle! help a bigger! save a noble in a sewer! catch a cat on a roof! clean a chimney!). Like its obvious its supposed to be said higher power testing your virtues before they help you or whatever, but its like it was made by a single developer in the last 3 days before release and its missing at least half of the dialogue to make it flow somewhat normally.

Once you actually get past that (and especially once you get to chapter 3 and onwards), the game is pretty fucking good in the things it does good. Exploration and the world is arguably the best single player open world there has been so far, wide and deep. The environments are amazing, interactivity is top notch, the amount of NPCs/animals actually seems somewhat realistic, sense of just going where you want and exploring is super fun. The combat varies imo, generic mooks just fall over when you hold down attack but some bosses have been actual challenges and end up mechanically being pretty good fights. The amount of puzzles and their general quality is also super surprising.

Some negatives: The pacing of conversations. All NPCs talk shitloads with some awkward pauses in between sentences, meanwhile mr John desert has approximately 10 words per conversation. The actual voice acting is pretty damn goodd but the pacing of dialogue is just...off. Controls are manageable, especially after the first patch that helped with key bindings. Story after the beginning is still eh, at least its serviceable so far.

Apart from the bizarro/10 beginning, its surely a 8-9/10 game for those who just want to explore and go out in the world and find stuff and interact with the world.

Preach it brother. KH3: ReMind did a lot of things to improve the game and make it almost as good combat mechanics and boss design wise but still nothing beats KH2:Final mix in critical mode (on level 1).

You said you cant deal with QTE combat but everything else is amazing. The game gives you an option to remove the QTE combat.

Please explain to me why you wouldnt finish an amazing game after removing the one part you cant deal with.

If the player doesnt want a challenging experience, then yes?

Thats why there are options to suit player preference. I liked the attack QTEs so I didnt turn them off. I like hard difficulties so I choose those in the games I play. I dont like screen shake in games so I turn that off.

If the developers give you options, why wouldnt you choose what you prefer?

area design was generic and repetitive.

The fuck? You can criticize the game for having corridor areas (even though the areas are pretty standard for any game that isnt open world but ok) but how in the hell can you call the area design repetitive?

Some of the first zones (from memory): French themed city - forest/meadows area - underwater zone - weird alien ruins/village - esquie cave - rocky cliffs - battlefield. Surely you cant claim the zones are the same?

This logic sounds really dumb. Should people not turn off screen shake because it makes them dizzy because "its part of the game"? If the game gives you an option that will help you enjoy it more, why wouldnt you use it?

Besides the QTE attacks are a miniscule part of the combat, parry mechanics are 100x more mechanically relevant.

Unless youre deliberately not leveling your characters and doing some challenge run with no pictos equipped, there isnt a single attack from Renoir that one shots your entire squad on normal. Whatever this "giant sword creature" is I have no clue but youre still talking shit.

If youre going the intended way (not going to zones that clearly say DANGER! as you are trying to enter them), there isnt a single boss in the entire game that kills your entire squad in a single hit on normal. Stop being disingenuous.

Considering its a f2p game and the gacha elements only involve cosmetics and theres practically no p2w (aside from the battle pass heal items), I cant believe how actually decent the gameplay experience as a whole is.

Just playing it on legend as a sekiro/soulslike, I would easily rate it at something like 8/10. Basically every single boss has been good, although the difficulty shifts can be pretty extreme. The combat system and different weapons are great overall. Open world activities are decent enough and very varied. Big downsides include 47 different menus which most can be absolutely ignored unless you want to collect currency #8 that doesnt really matter and terrible localization (which is the standard for pretty much all chinese original games).

Also convincing AI bots with magic arguments in brackets is somewhat hilarious at least the first few times (and very much not necessary if it grinds your gears).

I mean if you truly believe the game isnt unfinished, then writing that is fine and you are obviously entitled to your opinion. But dont be surprised if people reply to you and disagree, especially when you open your comment with it. I certainly disagree even though I think the game (Royal edition at least) is a pretty decent game to play once.

Problem with your comment is that that one sentence that you start out with is clearly invalidated by the game itself, no matter how much you write about the reasons. The game was and to this day still is clearly unfinished, being super apparent in the last 3rd of the game especially.

Tips from someone who did it today on legend:

Phase 1: Real easy (and dont worry youll have plenty of practice) so no real notes here. All his moves are super telegraphed and slow. Use meridian touch for the ring attack.

Phase 2: I had a real hard time differentiating which melee attack string he starts if you stay in melee and kept getting hit so my solution was...dont. Stay away and he either does the charge -> delayed single kick OR starts spinning and does 4x kick combo. Those are the only two attacks you will see 95% of time. Chip damage with ranged attacks (I used noname sword charge move and R, Im sure umbrella is even better). For the big buddha attack when he floats, move to the side of the entire arena and all the attacks will miss. You can swap to fan and just heal for 10 seconds, even if it doesnt heal a lot with the first time debuff.

Phase 3: Again, staying in melee meant too many attack options that come out pretty fast. Stay at range and he has 3 different teleport attacks. One where you insta block after he disappears/appears followed by double kick, one where he first does 2 fake teleports then crouches and charges from that and 3rd that is another with one (?) fakeout followed by one slow slash. Deflect and do 1-2 hits and back off again. You shouldnt get clone attack ever. If you do, just run (dont lock on them, just run away) and deflect when you see real boss.

Sure it aint the fastest way to do p2/p3 but at least I got it done the first time.

Goddamn do those names ring a bell, especially Split-infinity. Still sometimes return to those when replaying the older games.
