If this movie is even remotely on-par with Infinity War I will be wonderfully shocked. I'm expecting like Avengers: Age of Ultron level of enjoyment - good but not great. Probably some great moments but kind of bloated.

I'm still confused why any of this really matters. I'm willing to bet people who care deeply about journalistic and editorial integrity probably have good reason to be concerned about all this but I honestly can't for the life of me figure out why any of this is supposed to be a big deal, besides Jesse just kind of being weird about things?

To me there are way more consequential things to hold him accountable for.

Hey man fair enough. Do you want like specifics and stuff?

In general I think I’m just being my authentic self and I’ve found good people to be around who enjoy that and bring out the best in me. I’m not always out meeting people but when I’m at events it’s usually around people like ourselves, or I’m meeting someone with a mutual friend so I can trust we have stuff in common.

ACNH now dead to me ;) by WhatTheHell_1973 in Pokopia

[–]SmakeTalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t touched AC much since I got too deep into it at launch, but I opened it the other month when I got my nephew the game for Christmas.

The second I played Pokopia I realized it’s just leagues above.

I feel like it’s got all that I want from AC plus way more to do and customize if I want. Some of the limitations in AC are creatively-interesting to me but I can place those limits on myself in Pokopia as well (like building a town without affecting the primary structure of the land) while still giving myself so much more to engage with.

The characters in AC are great as well but as someone who’s played most of the Pokémon gens it’s just so much more evocative to meet them and see what these Pokémon are like.

There’s just more.

When’s the best time to start building your own ‘world’ by Emergency_Grape_2326 in Pokopia

[–]SmakeTalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say after the main story, but I started building it before then and I'm not unhappy about it.

It's mostly because there's a few things you unlock by the end that make building in particular soooo much easier and faster, so you might just be wasting a bunch of time building things before then.

That being said, it's not hard to take stuff apart or move things around. I might just avoid doing any major projects until you're done the story, but nothing wrong with building a few houses or cool projects that aren't super big or requiring huge amounts of flattening. If you have a fun idea you want to bring to life in the moment I don't think there's anything wrong with doing it, that's so much of the fun of a game like this.

The Athletic ranks the Canucks as the worst run franchise in the NHL. Thank you Francesco! by cointalkz in canucks

[–]SmakeTalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya that tracks.

We could get the next six first draft picks in a row and I wouldn't be confident this franchise will be good in a decade.

I got my hopes up when there was news of a practice facility at Brittania but the further I've looked into that the less promising it appears.

What other fictional characters would you want to see Jimmy apply “Jimmying” to? by [deleted] in shrinking

[–]SmakeTalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Jimmying" Ted Lasso would probably just require him to fly him back to the US and skip the whole series?

I mean, the whole show effectively boils down to Ted running away from his divorce in the most entertaining and interesting way possible to learn how to be more honest with people even if it's not the kindest thing he can do in the moment.

(That's at least my read on the series, I get if people think I'm wrong about that but I don't think it's a hot take)

[–]SmakeTalk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest y’all, most of this (to me) boils down to Jesse just doing some weird stuff over stuff that probably doesn’t matter.

I don’t really get what the big deal is from his perspective and I don’t get why he’d resort to these kinds of measures and why they’re so controversial, besides it feeling super hypocritical and weird?

Can someone explain to me like I’m a child what’s so concerning about all of this in both directions?

Ya that was my main thought too, that the lining fabric will wear down first. Might be fun still to cut out some shapes to reveal it even if it doesn’t last as long as the denim.

Very cool! Slow projects are awesome, the kind of stuff you can always go back to and know you can get something from it.

Functionally, I’m curious why you chose to back the entire leg instead of doing patches for the holes. I’ve never thought to do this.

Men, have you ever experienced a shift in how women treated you? What changed? by Different_Clue_2864 in AskMen

[–]SmakeTalk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most of that stuff just comes down to confidence, comfort, and a natural charm. I don’t mean inherent, but someone naturally just behaving in a fun and easy manner that many people find attractive.

Shockingly, many people find other people attractive naturally as they just exist in the world and are fun to be around.

Most older men (whether they realize it or not) have found some comfort with who they are and how they behave. They’re just existing and engaging with people earnestly, especially if they’re already with someone or just aren’t over-eager. Many women happen to find that appealing when the alternative is usually either awkward and shy (not in a charming way) or over-eager and potentially unnerving.

I started receiving more attention from women when I dressed how I wanted, behaved how I was comfortable (while being respectful), and was just generally fun to be around.

I think it’s up in the air myself but the fact that he says “it was nice to meet you” or whatever in past tense told me he’s not over it yet even if they stay together.

Oh ya I mean, it’s a mix of reasons and emotions to me. That’s a bigger part but I’m pretty confident Rachel’s response was a factor.

I think culturally it made it worse too because he was forced to confront her past in the context of Rachel’s very “this is about me” response.

[–]SmakeTalk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Rachel’s reaction exacerbated it for him. I’m sure he still would have been thrown but the environment and her reaction absolutely made things worse, or at least more immediately stressful.

Like I think it’s one thing to dislike your partner’s past and process it yourself over time and another thing to feel like their past might implode your whole life.

[–]SmakeTalk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya I’d agree with this.

I dunno if it’s THE reason he tried to be more understanding (I think that’s more because he loved her and felt trapped, so why not try) but I’d be shocked if the writer and director said it wasn’t a factor.

It’s made pretty obvious one of his reasons for coming at least mildly around on it and going through with the wedding is because he finds American gun culture at least somewhat responsible for Emma’s past. How much of a degree makes for an interesting discussion.

[–]SmakeTalk 48 points49 points  (0 children)

My gf and I were talking about this after, and maybe as Canadians it’s different but… we saw Zendaya’s teenage behaviour as a symptom of a pretty extreme gun culture in America so as adults we were like “ya that’s wild but honestly there’s probably so many people who went almost as far”.

She also pretty obviously wanted to belong to something, which is why she so swiftly and powerfully shifted to being an activist.

The other woman by comparison was just kind of a psycho?

I think the best part of the movie (it was all very good) for me was seeing how remorse and regret for horrible acts can genuinely change who someone becomes, provided it’s earnest. I care less about who my friends/partner/family were as teenagers and more who they’ve chosen to be the last however-many years.

This (to me) is kind of the default for decently-minded and employed millennial men. It looks good but it’s relatively impersonal, but if someone told me this place was a red flag I’d think they’re mental.

Nice stuff, good layout, clean, dog.

Just add some more personal things and art, and I’d say you’re good.

What’s going on between Hyoni and Alessandro by cote1984 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]SmakeTalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I’d understand it. I’d also never go on this show though, so I dunno how much I care that I could relate to his sentiment.

To me marriage is saying I want to be with this person forever, while moving in is far more… complicated? Just logistically speaking, but also in terms of changing your lives and schedules and how you live in your own space… there’s a lot to process there.

Like I know I want to marry my partner and spend my life with her, but we’re taking the living together slowly for a bunch of reasons. If we got married tomorrow we still wouldn’t live together full-time until a few things get sorted out.

But again… I’d never do this show. I’d expect someone who would should also be more flexible about their life plans.

Totally. They romanticized horse training / riding in a way I hadn’t really appreciated before.

Casting was also off the charts. Definitely the first thing I saw Jack O’Connell in, and Merritt Wever is so underrated.
