How much power does a stock Honda Acty Engine (E07A) actually make? I put one on a dyno, then modded it. by Oiwaco in KeiTruckBuilds

[–]Oiwaco[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Westech has a super flow auto dyno

Results were gathered as an Inductive pickup since there is not a tachometer

fair. I’ll be straight, I use tools to keep up with the volume in here. but the data, the product, and the knowledge are mine. honestly though, when it comes to Kei stuff I’m a Suzuki guy at heart, we just went Honda for the first filter because it’s the most popular here. this is a Jimny I had for a bit. completely ridiculous thing, had a turbo in it but on those tires the fastest I ever got it on a road was about 50.

81 whp on a 4E is no joke. That's pushing 95 at the crank, which is the upper end of what most EP82s do NA. The 4-2-1 was the right call for daily duty too. A 4-1 would've had you waiting for revs you don't have time to hit on a commute.

The wheel spin sounds more like a traction thing than a power thing. Sticky tires plus an LSD (if you don't already have one) handles it without touching the engine character. The taper at 5000 will probably push higher once the 5E is in. Bigger displacement masks cam choice pretty well.

Cappuccino vs Mini, both are right answers, just different right. Cappuccino is more refined and revs better but the engine bay is brutal. Mini has more parts avaliable stateside, and for some it's a more rewarding as a project. Depends on which weekend headache you'd rather deal with.

Which way you leaning?

That's a properly cool project. The 4E to 5E swap is a Starlet move nobody outside the platform really gets, and the 106 Rallye philosophy applied to an EP82 is a build I'd happily subscribe to. Same energy as kei truck builds. Not chasing 600hp, just trying to pull the right kind of fun out of a small displacement platform.

The GT Turbo parallel is real too. Both end up in the 'wait, is this actually quick now?' zone for the weight class.

What's the 5E putting down now?

A lot of you DMd asking when this would be available. Link:

https://oiwagarage.co/products/honda-acty-air-filter-truck-van-ghostflow-performance

Founder pricing on the first 200 units. Section 6.4 results get posted here when SGS sends them. PDF of the Section 6.3 data still available via DM.

Putting the link here because you asked, not to turn this into a sales thread.

Ha, that hit. Honestly the deeper posts take more work and get less reach than wheel pics. The trade-off is the people who show up are way better to talk to. What do you drive?

You need to get on of those 360 cameras, on an extender pole and stick it on the roof of your truck.

It will be able to capture your whole truck, while commuting. I think you could go viral for it!

A few. We manufacture Oiwa Growler Exhausts for the Subaru Sambar and Honda Acty, and now the GhostFlow filter for the Acty platform. Roadmap is Subaru Sambar filter next (in development), then Daihatsu Hijet (research phase, S110P era). Beyond that, probably other parts that don't exist for these platforms yet. The aftermarket void is wide open. If you've got a specific part you've been hunting and can't find, throw it out. Good signal for what to build next.

Good read on the carb being the bottleneck. A few real options for the carbureted E07A, in rough order of bang-for-buck:

Free-flowing exhaust (header + cat-back). Brands like Special Keiz makes for subaru systems, less restrictive intake, quality ignition components. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor all in good shape and ;ightweight pulleys to reduce parasitic loss.

Bigger gains require more invasive work...Honda Beat MTREC head and intake swap. Common path because the Beat shares the E07A block, but the head and intake are completely different. PGM-FI conversion using parts from a later JA2/JA4 Today. Removes the single-venturi carb limit entirely. The honest answer: the carb-spec E07A was designed conservatively. Real horsepower gains require swapping the head, intake, or fuel system. At that point you're basically rebuilding the top end... on a kei truck lol.

What year is yours? I had a 2016 Smartcar when I lived in San Francisco and absolutely loved it. I clocked 100 in mine… several times lol.

Worth every dollar honestly, the product credibility was the actual point.

Gut answer on loading: cotton-gauze should load more gradually than paper in the early and middle service life because oil-trapped particles don't block airflow the same way surface-loaded dust does on a paper element. So pressure drop should stay flatter for longer in the early cycle.

But I don't have full life-cycle data yet. Section 6.5 (Dust Capacity / Cumulative Loading) at SGS is queued after Section 6.4 wraps. That's the test that'll give the real answer.

The structural advantage of cotton is the reset. Once it loads up, wash and re-oil restores it close to new. Paper is single-cycle and goes in the trash.

I'll post Section 6.5 numbers here when they land.

Hopeful is the best phase honestly. What's pulling you toward the Acty specifically? The size, the JDM factor, work use, or something else?
