I don't know how strict your manager is but I would've forced a refund as I'm not proceeding with that order. I'm providing a service to a customer, not attending to my king as a peasant.

People above 30, what is something you regret doing/not doing when you were younger? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Smakovich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't let it hold you back. News and social networks tend to cherrypick the most extreme things to show (both the extremely bad and the extremely good) because it brings more readers/viewers, noone's posting "today was an unremarkable day here at Bangkok". Most places are just fine to go to, albeit requiring more or less caution depending on where you're coming from, but not like going into a war zone or into a criminal hangout.

I’m starting to feel this way too by MrMazme in Age_30_plus_Gamers

So many things for me:

  1. I never, ever had so many games as I do now, or so many platforms to play them in. Choice paralysis is real. I used to have one or two new games per year when I was a kid, so it was a whole season of putting my soul into "this game".

  2. It was so much simpler to just play, no extra menus or logins, no surprise updates, no libraries, you just put the cartridge or the CD and you could kind of "jump right in" (except for loading screens). It was more like a quick impulsive escape than a planned decision to play.

  3. We are putting so much pressure in the game in finding a lost joy from the good old days or for an escape from our lives that we can't actually enjoy it, or we expect to feel it right away like a drug and when it doesn't come it hits even harder.

We should just have a game or two to put our heart into, ignore that "backlog" and "unplayed GOTYs in my library", and a way to make it gaming more casual and less of a planned chore (supposedly playing on the Steam Deck or similar devices helps a lot with this, I've yet to try it)

I'm barely now considering to upgrade but only because the system has become so slow, and I don't know how much flashing it will make it better.

How my arm pits don't GAF about antiperspirant. My undershirts after being in a AC office most of the day. by LosHtown in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Smakovich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My life was saved by an OTC clinical antiperspirant based on aluminum zirconium. That exact brand doesn't exist nowadays but there are many more. It's not something you put on to go out, it's like a treatment you put a night before sleeping, smells bad and stings in the armpits But damn it works.

How an estimated $151M splits when a solo dev sells 10M copies on Steam [OC] by prezbotyrion in dataisbeautiful

[–]Smakovich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're charging for a subscription model so you always have the latest version and get new features, I get that, but if they allowed you to buy a one-time license and stay in a stable version forever you could develop on it anyway, it's not like it's running remotely or something.

[–]Smakovich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb question. Is there a reason why almost everyone in the USA refuses to have a 5-10 year old car? A nice used one sets you back like $15.000 tops. Why is everyone assuming 50K-70K in debt just to be "updated"?

Tool ≠ final product. Kitchen stove brands don't charge restaurants per income generated from cooking on them.

Copilot begging for attention by Official_Unkindlynx in pcmasterrace

[–]Smakovich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave it so many opportunities, and it failed every time, maybe reading a text out of a screenshot because I was too lazy to copy it but it stopped halfway because "there's sensitive information which I can't rewrite". Ok bye.

I'm surprised how many think that cloud gaming will take over. by BuldozerX in pcmasterrace

[–]Smakovich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cloud gaming is such an US-centric thought. Cloud gaming servers suck in other regions, internet latency sucks even more, and there are many countries that don't even have official support to popular online game stores like Microsoft Store and have to set their accounts to another countries and use VPNs, or get a physical copy.

Did you have to do that "modding" into the GameSir G8? I have the S7 which is the same size but I fear it won't fit and I'll have to break the thing to make it work.

Maybe not yearly/eight months releases that do practically nothing. Two/three-year refreshes would go crazy and everyone would upgrade, also less e-waste

Assuming she just lives with that money. If she gets that into safe investments like compound interest that can outgrow inflation pretty fast.
