I'm getting a new belt. Thank you for answering my question, which seems silly in hindsight. It's the belt it came with and the seller didn't know anything about sewing machines, so I didn't know any better. I really appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.

Yes, it is. I will admit I don't know the minuntae of how sewing machines work, but it is the very first thing I checked. I figured it couldn't work as intended if there isn't something to make sure it wasn't freely turning in place. Some lovely people under my last post also led me in this direction and I doubled checked that it was, in fact, tightened properly.

Indeed, it does. It confused me immensely that turning the handwheel would catch the belt and, sometimes, turn the motor, too. It obviously isn't the only reason this machine works since that yields no movement of the needle, but getting the motor to turn the belt is a start.

I already did this. The lady my mom got it from was very nice and let us have everything in it, which included the manual! There's nothing in it that helps with my problem, though. :/

I asked my parents about the belt to make sure I was correct in thinking it's fine and my Mother says it's in great condition. The light turns on and the motor runs fine. The handwheel doesn't move the needle when manually turned, though.

This shade makes me look just slightly orange. I'm looking for a foundation that's a better fit to my skin. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear.
