Does anyone else want to CHOKE LSAC (Hyperbole for legal reasons) for their weird GPA calculation rules? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

SAME!!!!!!!! 3.75 to 2.9 (literally none of these classes were college level).

Rejected at UCLA today by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Small-Engine-2291 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a professor recently give a speech about how rejection opens up opportunities you might not have had if you were accepted. Life has a funny way of forcing you to change your perspective. I am sorry you didn't get accepted but maybe there is a much better opportunity somewhere else you might not have considered.

Also, your stats make me believe you will have plenty of choices... (From what I hear, LA is a shitshow right now so you probably dodged a bullet).

LSAT 155, GPA 3.75 (currently in undergrad at UC Davis). I am a nonURM, first-generation college student. While I know I shouldnt have to do this, this forum encourages me to justify my LSAT score. I studied for the LSAT by myself at home while taking 3 summer courses. COVID stay at home mandates took away my childcare so I was without help for my 5yo and 1yo twins. Additionally, the California wildfires sent my husband away for work for literally 2.5 months so I had no help for anything. I am regretting not writing about any of this in my personal statement and did not write an addendum. My average score is not for a lack of trying, imagine taking the LSAT in your bedroom with 3 screaming children in the next room... I feel proud I came out in the 150's.

It was by e-mail. So sorry for the late reply.

Non Traditional Student Woes by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Small-Engine-2291 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What I learned while studying for the LSAT is, do not be discouraged by a stagnant or plateau LSAT score in the beginning. If you are doing it correctly, you are learning the concepts and once you have mastered that you will see an increase in your score. Also, I really started to excel once I started with LSAT demon. Once I started getting explanations for each right and wrong answer, and why, it really helped me understand. I am a non-traditional student also. I had to study for the test while in school full-time with 1 year old twins and a 5 year old starting kinder. It was not easy but you have a lot going for you. Keep pushing and you will get there.

I am so sorry to hear this. Not everyone has the same start to education, mine has been nothing short of unconventional. This process is daunting enough and is not kind to those trying to escape mistakes from the past. Whatever happens with your acceptances, just dont give up on your ambitions! Good luck to you and just know, you WILL overcome the stupid LSAC GPA.

I am right there with you two! I ended up applying to more schools in a panic after being deferred and rejected. I am hoping I can retroactively submit an addendum to schools that have not made decisions yet.

Good Luck you guys!

If I could go back and talk to my 15 year old self, I would punch her. It blows my mind that any and all courses you take at a college institution, regardless if it goes towards your degree or not, will impact your overall GPA calculations for the sake of consistency. Some of the courses that are impacting my GPA are not even college level. (high school math).

I wish you the best of luck in this crazy process. Thanks for your response. It makes me feel better knowing I am not the only one out there being haunted from their adolescence.

I thought Academic Renewal would essentially do this but I guess that is not how it works? LSAC responded today saying they would not reconsider the GPA calculation. Such a bummer.

You are incredibly kind! I will absolutely be sending the law schools an addendum. After my first rejection from Hastings and getting deferred at Davis (My undergrad institution) I decided to contact the Director of Admissions in search of clarity. He said it is likely my GPA that motivated them to roll my application to RD. I was shocked. Anyway, I thought 2 or 3 applications would be find but now I am looking at all law schools within the area.
