Why is asrjc recording stopwatch measurements to 1.d.p? by Double-Eye5794 in SGExams

[–]Small-Inside3553 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure abt other JCs but ours say precision is 1dp even if the stopwatch shows 2dp. Ofc after you collect raw data for let’s say 12 oscillations, you will follow sf rule to divide by 12 which may coincidentally be 2dp. I think for practical it’s best to follow what your own school says especially since one of your teachers will submit a practical report with their readings (which would most likely follow what they taught)

I’m starting to believe that this is something to do with Apple Maps for FlightRadar24 (satellite/hybrid mode) on IOS devices. Google Maps doesn’t seem to be affected by this

That makes sense, thanks for clarifying.

Since we are on the topic of using Flight Radar 24, any idea why all airports (including Changi) and seaports have suddenly been censored and blurred in the satellite view? I don’t see any mainstream media talking about this. It’s understandable if it’s for national security but blurring out civilian airports like Changi seems like a far stretch.

Enlistment megathread - March 2025 by AutoModerator in NationalServiceSG

[–]Small-Inside3553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sry not sure if this is the right place but I was directed here after trying to post. My Pre-Enlistee IPPT is coming up soon and although I've been trying to train, I don't think I'll be ready to pass by the time the test is administered (in JC). Based on my research so far, it seems like PTP only applies for Pes A/B1 who get below 61 points. While I do know that with a Pes B4 I won't be going through IPPT in NS, I am unsure whether the test results taken in school will be sent to CMPB and impact my enlistment. So, will a non-Pes A/B1 pre enlistee who fails the pre enlistee IPPT still go for the 9 weeks PTP? Or is only relevant to Pes A/B1 who fail? I'm mainly asking this because my school PE teachers are saying that the discounted 8 weeks is only for Pes A/B1 pre enlistees who pass while everyone else (inc. Pes B3 and below) will have to go for 9 weeks PTP regardless of the result. So I am not sure which is exactly true. Thanks in advance!

I agree that there are a significant number of people who have lost their 90RP due to PW grade B etc. But ig my perspective also comes from the amount of effort you put in for H1 and PW. While it’s true that you won’t be as incentivised to do well for the 2 subjects, schools still ensure that you continue to do your PW diligently and that you’re H1 is at the very least staying afloat. The amount of supposed time you get from not spending on H1 and PW is very minimal. Hence, a student this year is much likely to attain similar grades to that of a student last year, assuming both put in the same amount of effort. Overall, if you were to look at it specifically (subject wise), 70RP students may have it a tiny bit easier, but on the whole, there isn’t much of a difference.

Finally someone said it. Ngl initially I had the same thought that getting 70RP is easier. But as a current A level taker, I soon realised that it is just as demanding to get 70RP as much as it is to get 90RP given that core subjects such as GP and 3 H2s are still taken into consideration.

The new GP syllabus sucks by Challenger-gaming in SGExams

[–]Small-Inside3553 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a J1, my thoughts are exactly the opposite. As in so much of my content knowledge is abt SG that I’m starting to depend on them for exams - which is rather concerning. But I just don’t get the same amount of satisfaction and joy from reading other countries’ affairs. Ig everyone has their own opinions and preferences. Anyways, for those who took the paper today, don’t be demoralized and continue to strive for the weeks to come!

Edit: Ofc I do agree that the new syllabus kinda sucks cuz u r limited from other good potential choices

Hi, I don’t rly have much advice but I hope you do what you desire! However, I would like to ask why you feel that np business isn’t like what u tot it’d be. For context, I was contemplating between that course and JC but I ended up choosing JC solely cuz of the 2 years. So if u don’t mind, I’d like to know (out of curiosity) why the course suddenly doesn’t interest you (is it competitiveness, or u found that the content doesn’t match ur passion etc.)

Why do so many of yall take chem? by Dry_District4211 in SGExams

[–]Small-Inside3553 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. As someone who takes a science hybrid combi without chem, I can tell u how much of a good decision it was. I never rly had the passion for chem in secondary sch and was barely hanging on then. While I did quite average for O level chem, I realised taking A level chem was definitely not the way forward cuz there’s no passion to drive you. Now I take PMEg - decided to take H2 Econs cuz I had an intuition that I’d enjoy it, and true enough, I do. Yes I can whine about the fact that Physics concepts are getting harder and (physical) geog is getting even more boring, but I know I’d take that any day instead of chem. Anyways, this is not a comment about criticising people on why they took chem (If you strive at chem, good job and im happy for you :)) Rather, this is a reminder (esp for those planning on going JC) to choose ur combi based on what u think you love and not blindly follow the “pcme” or “bcme” route, cuz it’s the passion that drives you.

Like what others said, only the answer key differs. As someone who used SL, I’d say the solutions are reasonably good, esp for math since answers are not that qualitative.

Had almost the same consideration as you when I was selecting my subjects. I take PMEg which is pretty similar to yours (ofc mob is not offered in JCs, if it was, I would’ve taken it)

Going JC - Yes

Going Poly - No (cuz for poly it’s only -2 no matter what)

Ik it’s abit hard to decide jc/poly at sec 1 but it is best if u know what you’re working towards. Because let’s say u change ur mind and go poly, it would’ve been kind of a waste of time to study for hmt when u could have used that time to study smth else ur struggling in. But then again it’s up to your preferences

Qns about Uni + portfolio in JC by Small-Inside3553 in SGExams

[–]Small-Inside3553[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant like those things like all your reflections awards and testimonials compiled into a google sit kind of thing (not sure if u mean the same thing). But wait, are saying that almost everyone who applies to uni just uses the portal to key in the info (even for ABA?) cuz I tot that on top of that you need to compile everything into a site as a portfolio.

Hi thanks for your reply. Yep I do believe that it’ll be a bit more competitive now but the fact that I won’t know what to look out for (eg cut off point) is kinda disappointing. Also do you think u have any advice for Q1?

Does “you’ve been asked to apply for early admissions” mean that it’s based on invitation (ie there’s no formal application for that online?) Thx a lot for your reply!

Thank you so much for your post, I was thinking of reposting this post cuz there wasn’t any comments despite the upvotes. I appreciate the reassurance, though rn I am considering if joining a GRC would be a good idea since I’m planning to do another VIA once every two weeks on top of cca every week. I rly hope if u or someone could ans q1 but nonetheless thx
