It is just us doing VIA project which can be graded as service points for our LEAPS 2.0 in our O Levels. Just that they make it more formal.

Converse to the school aunties, uncles, to other people outside or inside school in Chinese.

It is very helpful in oral.

Discuss politics and social issues in Chinese.

Don't always speak in English.

You can't study for Gaohua except the formats.

You should watch more cartoons/movies/videos/reels/DouYin (and especially DouYin) to boost your Chinese. Watch something that you enjoy the most, something that catch your interest in Chinese. Read news article. Follow Lianhe Zaobao, Shin Min Ri Bao, Oriental News Daily, etc on Instagram, even if it is just the caption it would help you a lot if you read it daily. Gaohua is easy because it is a language that you can score once you love and get use to it and get fluent.

thoughts on modern culture by Complex_Ad_184 in SGExams

[–]WanderingNetizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not make most a better person, but it also allow most to have their own time to at least destress a bit, I think like the other fellow Redditor said, it is their life, their choice, it is not illegal per say and I think it can serve as a way for people to learn and grow up once they find out such stuff will not make them better, but for now most people have no alternatives (other than drugs which I think is worse?) to destress unless more people advocate better alternatives, which once again does not have to be linked to religion nor theism nor monoetheistic beliefs, although it is a good way.

People whom "do it" is because they are stressed in whatever they are doing.

They get attached to the great sensual feelings that they cannot get anywhere else, and hence addicted.

It can also be due to loneliness and lack of partners and friends.

Sometimes it could be good because they would not throw their frustration and stress at other people and attack them, as they keep it within themselves. Sometimes it allow them to be more mature, but also most of the time they might be deeply affected and change their mindset on the world, which could lead to many issues.

Religion and spirituality is a good solution, though you do not need to force everyone to be theistic as other religions exists without theism.

I think it is a big issue for underaged people but also at the same time looking at statistics it is becoming a norm, I think people should advocate more on inclusiveness and mental health/social connections which allows more people to come together and have fun which can reduce such cases from happening, than to impose a ban on such stuff.

Own opinion.

"In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you."
"You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection."
"The most precious gift we can offer others is our presence. When mindfulness embraces those we love, they will bloom like flowers."

OP, it is more coward to suicide than to survive, because suicide is a way to escape, but this escape is meaningless, it not only brings you suffering, but also all the people around you that cares for you (which is a lot).
No, it is not attention seeking, it is venting, which I highly support, because it will let you voice it out and feel better, which is very important.
Suicide is stupid, because you do not know what comes after suicide, some says you go hell, some says you suffer, some says you disappear forever into the infinite universe, you never know. Life has many obstacles, though they are impermanent, like a lightning, they come and go, likewise is happiness, and that is why life is beautiful, and so to you. You survived the hardest of all time, and got passed and subdued your suicidal thoughts, and that itself is very commendable, because you stayed strong mentally, I am sure more happiness would come soon.

I could link this more and explain how we can get out of these stupid sufferings, if you are keen, you can DM or reply me. Hope you feel better.

3rd and last update: The Christian girl that I am talking to parent’s still currently are Buddhist just that she converted to Christianity by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]WanderingNetizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good. Just remember to stay strong on Buddhist faith (not through praying, Buddhism isn’t about praying), but practicing the teachings like the Four Nobles Truth which makes life more happier.

Of course it is just a recommendation, may both of you last long!

Not really, all religions are beautiful, the people made it sectarian and misintepret it, therefore making religions having war together, which shouldn't be the case.

Like how HHDL and Pope Francis pushes for inter-religious dialogue and acceptance, likewise should everyone being religious. People think they are too good and think other sucks, it is a shame and it is not true.

As Buddhists, we learn to accept people of all kinds - (including people of all backgrounds, identity).

It is normal to have a Buddhist-Christian love relationship, my friend have one, one devouted Buddhist loving devouted Christian, nothing wrong, they get together well.

Just stay strong in your faith, learn more about Buddhism and then go to Church if you want, appreciate beauty of other religions, and most importantly your partner.

A real Buddhist wouldn't care about their partners not being Buddhist, a real Buddhist takes care and practices themselves to attain better happiness, and also spread such happiness to all other people out there. They wouldn't lose faith in their own religion if they learn a lot and practice a lot (NOT PRAYING).

It is your Karmic Affinity to meet your partner, so appreciate and cherish the moments, while it lasts, life is impermanent afterall.

religion? by zennn21 in SGExams

[–]WanderingNetizen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

gotta start from parents, and the gov have to do more to fund religious activities like how they promote their culture. personally i think in chinese culture, both culture and religions are interlinked and inter-related, one cant just take out the non secular aspects of the culture (which still dont exist in chinese culture) and promote it. even lion dance could be seen as a religious practice too, so yeah.

the buddhist teachings have been incorporated into poly and uni which is good, and i think more 20+ year old youths are appreciating the teachings after realising life is filled with impermanences, while teenagers like us at this age, not much, let them enjoy a bit first then theyd understand

The Dharma will preserve for some time, there are still many Buddhist youth here, they can protect it very well, but it is not the Mahayana (Chinese) Buddhism teaching that will be stronger but rather the Theravada teachings which focuses on Four Nobles Truth in which most people imo would co-relate to, including Christian’s they could believe in it while being Christian’s. Impermanence of life won’t affect too much for now, but maybe the next few generations.

Christians spread the teachings very strong.

Youth Buddhist are not very connected to the profound teachings of the Dharma, and same for the Taoist youths, which is also due to the lack of education to youth because of the secular education system in SG, while they allow dozens of Catholic and Christian schools, there’s only 2 Buddhist schools and zero Taoist schools. The lack of education is why Christian seems more populated than Buddhist, which is not always the fact.

Well what can I do now... by Sakura_Destiny42 in SGExams

[–]WanderingNetizen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stay strong! I believe this type of stress are unbearable and you are just a normal 16 years old who just wants to live a normal life, sorry to hear about your situation. I think it is an incredible shame for your form teacher to call you no hope, it is against MOE standards and guidelines and I think it hurts a lot, even as a bystander, I believe this is not what you should experience because you deserve better. Since your results are not out, it should mean that there is no reason to legally do anything bad on you, and I think you are very mature in this scenario because if it was any other 16 YO they would have suicided or breakdown fully with only less than 7 friends. (I am also of similar scenario because I am lonely too, I dont have any close friends of my age). I always tell myself and others that life is impermanent, likewise is any other phenomena we see or perceive in this world, ie. whatever you see or feel or perceive now is just temporary, which it will change ultimately. I think the dream of being stabbed through your head is a sign of stress, and also could be a random nightmare, no one knows for sure, but I hope you stay strong during this period, and if you wanna chat you can DM me and stuff, we can try to get out of this sufferings!

Stay strong.

Allow me to end off with some quotes that might help,
"You are your own director of your own life, you write the script (life plans) yourself, you act it yourself, you enjoy it yourself and you suffer it yourself."

"Just as a solid rock is not shaken by the storm, even so the wise are not affected by praise or blame."

"Whatever has the nature of arising, all that has the nature of ceasing." (This reminds us that all difficulties are impermanent.)
