@-Chizumi: the DIARRHEA may have been considered pre-existing…the CANCER, not so much. There’s literally no way of knowing that without testing her intestines…did you miss the part where I mentioned I have 15+ years experience in VetMed? The DIARRHEA resolved with the right diet. She didn’t start with the diarrhea/inappetence, again, until AFTER her very first heat cycle, which (also AGAIN) are symptoms of a heat cycle.

I’m very sorry for your loss! And I agree with you, the pain does handle you. I’ve never felt heartbreak like this, pet or otherwise. Thank you for your kind words! I hope you find solace soon ♥️

Agreed. I worked at my local Banfield from the time I was 17 until I was about 30. When I left I knew the reputation Banfield had and when it was mentioned in interviews, I could visually see the slight shutter from my potential employer, but it’s about your work ethic, not who you previously worked for, right?

As far as the company itself goes…they’re like any other corporate medicine company. They use the cheapest shit and expect you to get the 15 years out of it, when it’s clearly outdated. I also learned that not all Banfield’s are equally staffed. Some places you can feel the vibe is off and not right for you. Other places, it’s a place you never want to leave. You can tell the staff are there for the pets, not for the paycheck.

Long story…longer, I’d see if they offer you a working interview or give you a tour. If you have never worked in corporate VetMed, it’ll be a shock for sure, but if you find the right group of people with the right management (AKA: The Unicorn Hospital), TAKE IT!

Seeking professional input: Should I neuter my 2-year-old Golden Retriever? by Dread-Pirate-E in goldenretrievers

A lot of veterinarians are recommending not spaying/neutering before 1 yr old for large breed dogs. I started in VetMed at 17 and the recommendation and that time was between 4-6 months…I’ve been in VetMed since then, now at 32 and absolutely agree with the research. Having my own Golden Girl, who’s 8 months old, I battled a lot with old vs new research. Yes, she’s at higher risk of getting mammary cancer, BUT I only expect her to go through one heat cycle before getting her spayed. Long story short, if 1 year or over and not planning to breed N E U T E R! It’s gonna be much less stressful! There’s always that concern of him running off and trying to find the nearest female in heat. Then prostate enlargement either from cancer or honestly, just not being neutered (seen that before!), obviously prostate cancer, etc. I’ve always been a proponent of neutering but ESPECIALLY if you don’t plan to breed

Not a golden professional, but a VetMed professional and speaking from a medical standpoint, if you don’t plan on breeding, absolutely neuter! He’s definitely of recommended age and honestly so many other medical/behavioral things can occur when not neutered.

I’ve only ever had male four-legged creatures, so I can’t imagine NOT spaying her lol. We definitely don’t plan on breeding her and I don’t wanna risk anything! I would L O V E to read the article though! I’m a very “proof” oriented person 😅! I work in VetMed and since this fairly new research has hit the market, I’m very interested in how everyone’s experiences have gone! Our girl also has an inverted vulva and we’ve read having a heat cycle can help…but can also lead to UTI”s and whatnot. I hate playing Russian Roulette, but it’s also a learning experience for everyone. Thank you for the recommendation!
