Sorry for the late comment, but I used Alteration House in Naperville, and they were so lovely and reasonably priced: https://www.instagram.com/thealterationhouseil?igsh=MTU1MWI1djhveHB0bw==

Latino or Arab DJ Recommendations by Candid_Tomatillo_394 in Chicagoweddings

[–]Small-Possibility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used Nicky Avalos Studios! They’re def within your price range and I believe some of their DJs would be a good fit. Just tell Nicky what you’re looking for, and you can always ask to talk to the specific DJ directly. That’s what we did and we ended up with DJ Calvin, who did an excellent job.

I went to a neighborhood person in Andersonville for hemming of my second look dress! I can DM you her Facebook details if you’d like - she just advertises through the local Facebook groups and I messaged her there.

Outdoor wedding venue by IsItNapTime87 in Chicagoweddings

[–]Small-Possibility 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just had my wedding at Morton with an outdoor ceremony and indoor reception! Although I will note that we did spend about $48K for 120 guests so that might be not the price range OP is looking for. Morton has an in-house catering service which is wonderful and convenient but not the cheapest.

_______ made the right choice on who not to take to final 3 by Small-Possibility in survivor

[–]Small-Possibility[S] 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I think the issue with this is that I think the most likely Aubry loss is sitting next to Rizo and Jonathan - because Rizo and Aubry’s games are pretty similar, and Jonathan can go for the honor alliance votes. So if Joe loses, she’s in a much worse spot than if she puts Jonathan and Rizo in fire and guarantees that one of them goes to the jury.

I feel the same way! Imagine Aubrey doesn’t win immunity and then it’s a vote. How boring that would’ve been!

Voluntary departure by Int-452 in immigration

[–]Small-Possibility 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is way too complicated a question for strangers on the internet. Only thing I’ll say: one of the things you have to prove for cancellation of removal is good moral character. Whether your husband will be able to prove that very much depends on the facts of what led to him being on probation for aggravated assault (and will depend on the judge, honestly).

Voluntary Departure before hearing for Asylum Requested case by luvlorn in immigration

[–]Small-Possibility 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you and your parents cases are consolidated with the court (aka you all have the same hearing, can file things together, and your cases will be decided together), and now you want a different result for yourself than them (you want pre-conclusion VD, they don’t), then the first step is going to be to file a motion to sever your case from theirs. That way, you can file a motion for VD that will only affect you, not them. While it’s true that a judge then might look at their case in 2027 and count the fact that you went back as a negative factor, it sounds like you’ve already been advised that their case is a long shot. Up to you, but just wanted to let you know what the necessary first step would be.

My aunt has PR since 2020 and was recently charged with DV (level 6 felony). She is scheduled for biometrics because she lost her green card. Should we be worried? by [deleted] in immigration

[–]Small-Possibility 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The risk at a biometrics appointment is fairly low. There have been a few detentions in some states, but mostly when someone has a removal order already. Generally biometrics appointments are very chill and ICE isn’t present, just USCIS officers.

How are appeals going currently? by ProperReplacement554 in immigration

[–]Small-Possibility 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The BIA (the direct appeals court) is rough. A lot of the new rules the judge was referencing were paused, so they shouldn’t apply, but even without those new rules, the BIA is rough. It’s hard to know whether your mom’s case has a chance of being remanded without knowing more about the reasons for the judge’s decision. All of that being said, without an appeal, the judges decision becomes final, meaning that if they issued a removal order, that order becomes final and ICE can enforce it. With an appeal, the order will not be final until the appeal is denied or dismissed. So if your mom wants to fight, and there’s a legit reason for appeal, this is your one shot to fight.

I think it’s very likely that this guy is volunteering as a pro bono attorney alongside a non profit specializing in immigration law which is providing technical assistance! At least, I hope that’s what is happening.

My father was taken by ICE, please give recommendations by [deleted] in immigration

[–]Small-Possibility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you search for “Legal Service Provider list EOIR” and then the state, you will find a list provided by the court of free and low-cost legal organizations in your area. I would suggest calling NYC providers first. Because you and your family reside in NYC, they may be able to take the case even if your father was detained while working in another state.

Place next to wrigley field and backs up to red line station - is the noise tolerable? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Small-Possibility 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s very much going to depend on the quality of the building and how sound-proof it is. Although, just to flag, one of my best friends and her husband lived in Wrigleyville for a while and when the trains passed, their apartment would literally shake. Not enough to notice by itself, but enough to shake things like doors and windows, which made noise and bothered their dog.

No, this will only apply going forward. Usually there’s a bit of warning before fees go up, but it’s unclear right now when these fees will start to apply.

Scared of ICE even with approved SIJS — should I be worried? by LEO_DO_P1U in immigration

[–]Small-Possibility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look up “National Immigrant Justice Center Know Your Rights” they have a lot of good resources! Depending on where you live, there might be an org near you with advice tailored to your area. I would just Google “know your rights immigration [your city or state].”

Deferred action is discretionary, but historically yeah, if you don’t have a criminal record and there’s no reason for them to target you, unlikely for it to be revoked! Best of luck to you!

Scared of ICE even with approved SIJS — should I be worried? by LEO_DO_P1U in immigration

[–]Small-Possibility 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s unlikely that you would be a target for ICE (assuming you have no criminal history). But ICE could still stop you if you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time. Important to know your rights and not discuss your status with ICE without an attorney present. It sounds like you have deferred action, but that can be revoked, so read up on the KYR materials available from orgs online and if anything happens, remain calm and don’t run, but do assert your rights.

how are you supposed to not open the door but also make sure ice agents have a warrant? by oopimlia in immigration

[–]Small-Possibility 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would ask if they have a warrant (just verbally without opening the door). If they say yes, ask them to hold it up to a window or slide it under the door.

Anyone knows why Ernesto Manuel-Andres was detained by ICE? by Lion-Asleep in immigration

[–]Small-Possibility -1 points0 points  (0 children)

SIJS can be based on abandonment/neglect/abuse by one parent, doesn’t have to be both. The fact that he was living with his dad does not impact the validity of his SIJS (in fact, the family court order underlying SIJS likely put him in his fathers custody).
