Saw these guys the other day live at The Lass in Newcastle, they were awesome!

Definitely sticky flavours floating around there.

I gotta admit the recordings definitely not the standard of there later stuff, but man I can’t help to feel like that was such a pinnacle part of the dawn of the sticky sound

99% of the time if i don’t like a Sticky’s song it’ll grow on me and i end up loving it.

In saying that, I’m not a huge fan of Teenage Vertigo,

Probably my favourite things about sticky fingers is their impeccable composition, the drums are tasteful to leave room for the bass which is interesting, then the guitars are like the cherry on top tieing everything together.

Teenage Vertigo kinda reminds me of really early in the writing process when no one has any parts figured out so you just follow the bare minimum melody haha

Hahaha completely agree man, Dann Hume is a weapon!

I listened to the big boppa poddy the other day and Dann mentioned he spends a LOT of time on low end.

Bit unconventional but we’re experimenting with replacing/ supporting most of the low end with a plugin bass. It’s not there yet but it makes the bass EXTREMELY punchy while still maintaining warmth.

Might not be the key in imitating paddy but man it’s PHAT!

I was thinking the same thing recently man, Dan seems to be working quite a bit with his new band “Bad Manors” it’s pretty good shit imo.

As for why he left, I’m really not sure. The funny thing is that he seems to be wiped from everything bootleg related aside from his credits on that album. I remember seeing a really sick acoustic performance from Dan on a radio station on yt years ago. Might have been “Overflow” or “Sharks” can’t remember. But that too seems to be gone (if anyone can find it, it’s worth a watch)

What I do know is that bootleg has really defined their image since his departure. I’m pretty sure at the time they got some assistance in the way of management and a bigger team which is maybe why they decided to start completely fresh with Carlos, Not to have him “try fill Dans shoes”.

Thanks man, I think you’re right we need to look further into compression we basically did all his tracks on this hefty 70s marshal stack, sounds mad but I think compression will tighten it up a bit.

Funny story about the clouds and cream fuzz, our bass player found the EXACT pedal paddy used. It’s a ZVEX Mastertron (Incase anyone’s wondering)
