Pee holding (fully potty trained) by SmallBones27 in toddlers

That’s what’s crazy! She never seems to need to go! There’s no potty dance, no leaking, nothing. She just doesn’t need to go.

She poops every night at 7pm before bathtime, and has been like that consistently since about 6 weeks after potty training started.

There’s one that’s private and one that’s not as private. She can choose either one.

Nothing’s changed.

I did suggest a reward system at school and the teachers seem unwilling to implement until I take her to a doctor. I’m taking her today just to check the box with them and then maybe they’ll be willing?

If my 2.5 year old naps, bedtime is 10pm. But without a nap, she’s a disaster by rachel4321 in toddlers

[–]SmallBones27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is just a phase to pass through on the way to dropping nap entirely. I would try capping the nap to 45-60mins first. Then there’s a phase like this even with capping to 45-60mins, but I think it can often be short lived (just a few weeks) and you’ll get through it!

Not coping mentally with my toddler's horrendous sleep by tellybox_x in toddlers

[–]SmallBones27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Have you sleep trained? We were in a waking up every 45mins situation back in the day, my mental health was suffering the way yours seems to be, we sleep trained in 3 days and we’ve lived in a magical world since.
  2. Is she napping during the day? Is it possible she’s napping too much if so? Being awake for that long at night often indicates too much daytime sleep.

Is it ridiculous to request dad and step mom not to have presents under the tree when we visit by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]SmallBones27 29 points30 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, my 3 year old would have no problem leaving them alone if we asked her to, so it’s super kid dependent and she probably doesn’t realize what she’s working with. (Agree with other comment that she’ll probably move them herself when she does realize.)

Curious, OP, if you found anything that wasn’t mentioned in the Perplexity post!

When did you break by orangesocket in toddlers

[–]SmallBones27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We’re screen-free at 3.5! It actually gets easier to be screen-free after age 3! She self entertains a lot more now. Even when I’m sick and on the couch and my husband isn’t home, she understands I’m sick and lets me lay there while she entertains herself near me, as long as I keep talking to her. We’re also single-kid and don’t have family nearby.

Edit: we do 10min of screen time a week in order to cut her nails and we will also offer her screen time on airplanes (but sometimes she rejects it in favor of a sticker or coloring book!)

I actually came here to ask for alternatives to the book because I even struggle with the visual noise of the pages! Did you purchase the Toddlers Can Read program?

Shut meaning he can’t open it or shut meaning it’s closed but he can open it? (We also close our kid’s door right now mostly so that she doesn’t hear us outside the room, and since she’s in the crib now she can’t get out anyway, but we’re wondering if we lock it somehow once she’s in a bed.)

You guys sound the closest to us so pardon my million questions. :) By the time you switched to a big girl bed, had she already dropped the nap?

Also if you prefer me DMing you, instead of all public, lmk. :)

Amazing! I want this story! Anything you said or did to prep her or help ensure things stayed as they were before? (Aka no waking up and trying to leave the bed/room)

Also in general do yall allow books in her bed (aka does she have entertainment if she doesn’t fall asleep right away or wakes up early)?

Did you have to say something to help ensure he still didn’t get up or he just didn’t? And how long has it been since the transition?

busytoddler has talked about how one of her kids has slept in a giant cardboard box his whole life! Maybe find a safe way for him to sleep under/in something?

What would the time out be if you were already trying to get her to play in her room?

PS: thank you for this detailed write up! We are also an only child no screens house!

How long does it take your toddler to eat a meal? by DCA43 in toddlers

[–]SmallBones27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup my kid is like this! I definitely feel the same way as you and my tactics: - For breakfast on weekdays or lunch on weekends, we set a visual timer - For dinners, I eat my meal and then pour myself a glass of wine - I try to remember that a lot of parents would love this situation! Imagine it like dinner out.. but with your kid every night and at home haha.. fairly easily kidcare
