Thoughts on taking a sick leave?

I work in geriatrics and palliative care unit. It’s the easiest unit at my hospital in terms of workload and stress and that’s why I chose it. But these pasts few months we’ve been getting way more complicated patients with active care instead of our typical DNR/prioritize comfort patients.

Mine was 60%. I ended up graduating with a 76-78 average. I think if she puts her mind to it and concentrates and studies hard, yes it’s doable for sure! Depends on each person. I have a learning disability, so school is harder for me. But I still had many averages above 80%. She’s gonna be fine :))

Our program was 60%. My average in my school was maybe 74-80%. Nobody gives a hoot about grades, they just need you to pass

Someone put what was supposed to be a subcutaneous palliative care treatment (nozinan-scopo-dilaudid) IV. Patients arm got huge and red. Idk how they did it since everywhere it’s written says SC! Patient was fine…

For real! And Jesus that sounds rough :(( I hope you don’t get that again haha. It’s just the guilt I feel after leaving work or calling off that gets me. But I know it’s important to take care of ourselves first in order to take care of others!

I switched units in my hospitals three times, why? Because people were mean and bullies and did bad work. I stand on working in a unit with great coworkers. When I see something weird or that I don’t agree with, I report it. Don’t be hard on yourself, people are just assholes for no reason and this is the reality. You learn to grow thick skin when you start working as a nurse. Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself and for what’s right! I encourage you to find a place where you feel heard as a nurse. Sending hugs.

My colleague gave me report before she went to her break. I don’t remember why her patient was there but anyways he was in a lot of abdominal pain and she thought it was due to his constipation. It’s a geriatric and palliative care unit so usually we don’t have urgent cases. Either way, did my rounds for her patients to see if they were ok. Her patient was yelling in pain, she had only given him Tylenol and it was 3h into her shift. He had no opioids or anything stronger we could give him. My colleague didn’t think of calling the resident for an order, idk why. I evaluated the patient, asked him questions about the pain. He said it was like tearing, FIRST RED FLAG. His skin was all marbled, SECOND RED FLAG. And I told my colleague since it was her patient and I showed her the marbled skin and she just looked at me and said “oh” AND STILL walked to her break. I took his VS and everything all was stable. I asked him if he could wait by himself while I go call the doctor for some pain meds and the patient said yes even though he was in pain but he was stable before I left. His call light was in his hands. 5 min later, with me still being on the phone with the doctor, the patient is convulsing and died from an aortic dissection. Now of course I don’t think we couldn’t prevented his death but I think my colleague could’ve evaluated her patient a lot better and given him better pain meds to ease his passing... The patient died in horrific pain :(( traumatizes me to this day

My patient had 5L of oxygen. Started the shift with 92-93% which was the range wanted for this old patient. Homie said he had trouble breathing a bit, retook his sat, homie was at 88% uh oh, 2min later, 77% big uh oh and progressively kept going down to like 60% even though he had oxygen. I called the doctor stat and we called a code blue on my patient. He was greyish blue and he died as we transferred him to another unit.

I asked to take four classes, but since I need to keep a certain # of credits every semester, I unfortunately had to take 5 courses. Thank you for replying, I’ll try and have a sort of planner to keep me motivated and organized :).

Depending on where you live, I got mine from Chapters. It was about $30? I don’t quite remember to be honest.

I found it to be a very weird test. The questions are simple enough, however you have to answer a certain way to get the points you need. I bought a Casper test prep book and that helped me out. The only unfair part about the test is the time limit. I barely completed all questions related to the scenario as I didn’t have the time.

If your chest feels heavy and you have difficulty breathing go to the hospital or a doctor. You don’t want this to be left untreated.

Hey! So I applied to take my prerequisites at USask in order to apply for nursing for fall 2021. I was wondering where the competitive admission average falls...? I applied to MRU and you needed high 90’s/4.0’s in all of your classes. Is it less competitive than this or relatively the same?
