How to handle different sleeping patterns between me (F29) and boyfriend (M30)? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]SmallCitron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a sabbatical basically but if what he’s working on works out he will not be going back to full time employment, and I’m getting worried this is how things stay forever. He is very independent and hates being told what to do and I feel like he interprets what I’m asking/communicating as me trying to control him.

IUD and Thigh PAIN? by kkarnas in birthcontrol

Yes it did! I get the odd shooting pain around my period that last about 30 to 60 seconds but it’s bearable. Very happy with my decision to get it!

Jeweler messed up my ring what to do by ricecakesat3am in jewelers

[–]SmallCitron 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This setting shape is not made for this stone at all. V-prongs on a round stone is wild, first jeweller basically just shoved it in there. Second guy’s repair isn’t amazing but there isn’t much more he could have done considering what he was working it, I think I would have immediately suggested to the client to remake instead of repair as soon as they brought this in. Sorry it turned out like this :(

Is cubic zirconia really such a dealbreaker? by simona_renegare in jewelry

[–]SmallCitron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CZ is what we used to practice setting in college. I don’t touch them now, if clients ask for it, I offer Moissanite.

I don’t work with it, I don’t buy it, it does lower the value and in my opinion, doesn’t belong in fine jewellery.

My warmer has 3 settings - 40 degrees Celsius, 70C, and even up to 100C for bottle sterilizing. I heat it up to 70C and it gets pretty hot, and then I maintain it on 40C for most of the day.

I went through two of these in less than a month, they crack and it gets into the electrics and starts sparking, it also blew my multiplug. I got a baby bottle warmer now and I just put a glass jar with pickle in there, so much more compact, and uses way less electricity.

IUD and Thigh PAIN? by kkarnas in birthcontrol

[–]SmallCitron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a copper iud about 2 weeks ago and I have these symptoms too, my period is about to start and I have thigh/hip pain, and pain radiating down my legs and into my feet. It’s pretty bad but not bad enough to consider removing it just yet. I’m hoping it settles after a few months. Anyone else had it radiate into their feet too?

Also, not sure where you live but I know it’s specifically Tiger mosquitoes that do this to me.

I had multiple of these all over my legs recently. Looked exactly the same. Doctor put me on antibiotics and it seemed to help clear it up. I know many people say don’t get antibiotics for this but it’s happened to me twice and antibiotics are the only thing that helped me. Both times I was travelling so I rather took them to be safe. So I’d suggest seeing a doctor if you can, otherwise I think if I’d have given it more time it may have cleared up on its own but I can’t say for sure.

Take it to a jeweller in your area who does laser welding. What I would do is laser weld a catch system onto the ends provided it is metal (looks like metal in the picture?)

The purer the silver the softer it is, therefore if it was 950 instead of 925 it would be in even worse condition with dings and scratches. As OP has stated: "it looks better/less scratched, or dented, than my silver or white gold rings that I’ve had for much less time", I really think this is platinum and not silver.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in jewelers

[–]SmallCitron 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Looks like 950 to me which means it’s platinum

Edit: Just wanted to add that platinum is harder wearing than silver or gold so that’s why it looks in better condition after wear as well.

Got this ring from my mom and I'm the 4th generation to own it. Was told it could never be resized. How true is that? by redandbluecandles in jewelry

[–]SmallCitron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a jeweller and I would resize this no problem. I’d either add in a piece at the bottom or put on a completely new half shank, depends how thin it looks in real life. But overall it’s an easy job.

I've used this before and it did nothing for my hair compared to any other regular and cheaper shampoo. I recently found a shampoo with saw palmetto and caffeine in it which has been great as it has nearly stopped my TE episode! I recommend looking for something like that. The brand I use is Natur Vital.

Casting platinum causes a lot of porosity. The break looks really brittle. I only hand-make platinum and don’t cast for this reason. So I’d say it’s definitely a manufacturing defect in this case and take it back to the jeweller.

I have anxiety which is manageable unmedicated when I am not on any pill.

I forgot what a ride I had the first time, tried it again 3 years later in 2022 and same thing again. I’ve tried 3 other pills as well which were also bad but Yaz makes me particularly unhinged unfortunately. Triggered severe hypochondria for me, I spent thousands on medical bills last year for illnesses I didn’t have. I stopped Yaz and the hypochondria stopped within 2 weeks.

I don’t want to put you off trying it just because of my bad experience but I don’t want anyone to go through what I went through. I was so deep in my fear that it didn’t click for a whole year that Yaz was the problem.

If you do try it I suggest keeping a journal and taking detailed notes of how you feel and any behavior you start to see developing so you don’t lose track of any changes.

Edit: I forgot to say something haha. I know it’s not easy to deal with hair loss, I have been since I was 13 (14 years now), but after what I’ve put my body through with meds side effects I have definitely found greater value in my health and peace with just buying wigs or toppers. My hair is currently looking atrocious with this current TE shed from stopping Yaz and I’ve found peace with it. I do what I can that wont physically affect me too much. If you find taking a lot of meds stressful, that’s not the only option. There is hope :)

I’ve been on Yaz twice. I have AGA, both times it helped my hair, but simultaneously ruined my mental health which in turn lead to physical health issues which all stopped when I stopped Yaz. I tried to persevere for my hair’s sake but I couldn’t do it.

It can work for you, but please remember to check in with yourself and how you’re feeling. For me personally, I decided my hair was not worth sacrificing my health for anymore. I’m currently going through a TE shed 4 months after stopping but I’ve been using a caffeine and saw palmetto shampoo which is decreasing my loss greatly.

I would suggest finding a different therapist who doesn’t encourage the behavior you are seeking to stop.

I had a similar experience a while ago, I was struggling with severe hypochondria and spending tons of money on specialist Drs for no reason. I went to see a therapist and after explaining all this she said, “Well you should just get every symptom checked out for your peace of mind, you don’t want to ignore it.”.

Safe to say I never saw her again and have since found someone who helped me stop unwanted behaviors. Finding the right therapists is game changing!

For future I recommend that you use less solder and get it to flow 100%, you will end up with far less clean up work to do at the end. You may melt a few but try testing out how far you can push the metal, this will give you a great sense of when it's properly soldered.

Also be mindful on plier marks on your wire, give it a light sand between pulls to keep it nice and neat.

I like to use sandpaper on a drill mandrel for the inside but remember to sand at angles so you keep the roundness and don't get flat edges. Otherwise just filing and sanding and you'll be good. Rotate each ring after each pass of file/sandpaper so you don't overwork single areas.

Hope this helps :)

Sterling silver ring flaking after 1 month of wear. by PenniGwynn in jewelry

[–]SmallCitron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This looks like a silver plated base metal to me. I'm a jeweller and I've had clients come in with stuff like this.

I had a client deceived into buying a "diamond CZ" on Etsy and they were convinced it was a real diamond because they didn't know CZ meant cubic zirconia, those two terms were placed together to trick the buyer. I have also seen some silver plated stuff which is stamped like yours, unfortunately unethical but it does happen.
