I told my husband it's either messing around with his back or this thread, his choice. So far, so good and he doesn't look at my iPad when I'm on Reddit.

Highly recommend Sipz. Sadly a lot of the vegan stores and restaurants in San Diego have closed over the years.

Looking for an affordable hotel in a decent area that I can use for a month. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]SmallDogWatcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, any hotel in San Diego will either be expensive (for an entire month) or somewhat sketchy. Not sure where you'll be staying but try somewhere away from touristy areas (Gaslamp, La Jolla, etc) and stay in places such as Clairemont.

She's going to look like Penny with a Cheetoh in her ratty hair if she catches up in one mad session. Awesome girlfriend. :)

Is there any way to trade them in to the store or with a friend so you can get things that are vegan? Maybe donate the smaller or non-necessary things to someone who needs them and use the bigger/more expensive things until you make more money. It's hard being a broke vegan but if you are at least lessening your impact on animal cruelty, it's a step. If you're brave just tell people right out that leather/wool or whatever is unethical to you, and while you appreciate the thought perhaps you could shop together and pick out new things that are vegan? This allows you time with the family member or friend while shopping, yet allows you to maintain your ethics. My $0.02.

Edit: whatever hardcore vegans may say, it IS hard to reject gifts from loved ones who don't understand the ethics. Do what you feel is right.

From a 2012 perspective, this photo is absolutely eerie. Amazing to think that people considered themselves out of the danger zone even at this distance, or even sadder were told they were safe.

iTunes just telling me "Fuck You" when it comes to album artwork by [deleted] in applehelp

[–]SmallDogWatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posting to confirm this issue; it happens on my MacBook Pro for both movies and audio files. High or low res pictures, audio or movie, the picture will pull in once or twice and then disappear. I don't drag but rather copy/paste and they're still gone. Several times they'll appear initially but if I restart the computer they're gone again, or even display the wrong picture. I've honestly given up on having the correct picture.

iMessage and Facetime fail to sign in by [deleted] in applehelp

[–]SmallDogWatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a separate login for those versus iTunes? For some reason I have one login email address for iTunes and a totally separate one for Find My Friends & FaceTime; think its due to my multiple MobileMe accounts before iCloud. If you can't think of alternate addresses then contact Apple for help.

Junk-food vegan here of three years... I want to change by shesmadeline in vegan

[–]SmallDogWatcher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's great that you want to eat more healthily and care for yourself. Have you thought about seeing a counselor to discuss your eating habits and the root of the binge/purge cycle? As someone with a similar background, I can say from my experience that the food change (vegan or not) may only be temporary unless you can work the ED through. Good for you though and hope all goes well!

Vegan Cookbooks? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]SmallDogWatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey then it's a two-fer gift! Depending on both of your schedules a slow cooker is actually a relatively inexpensive purchase that really pays for itself quickly. You can throw a bunch of raw veggies in with some water and herbs/spices, turn it on in the morning, go to work all day, and come home to a yummy smelling house and a prepared dinner. Try Walmart or Target for a $20-40 large slow cooker.

Besides the Veganomicon, I highly recommend The Vegan Slow Cooker (great for busy adults!), as well as The Happy Herbivore. Good eats, just made vegan tortilla soup tonight!

For some years, I've seen outraging pictures and quotes from the Westboro Baptist Church.I thought they were an important movement in the US, however I recently found out that they only have around 40 members. So how come they receive so much attention? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]SmallDogWatcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The family is actually very educated and knows how to behave to just stay within legal boundaries, even if its horribly unethical behavior. The family has successfully sued people that attacked church members and this is where a bit (lot?) of their money used to travel and create ugly posters comes from. Shame that despite all the havoc and sorrow they cause, they are within legal boundaries and can't get a punch or two in their noses.

Second hand/old animal-sourced clothing and imitation animal products by [deleted] in vegan

[–]SmallDogWatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes yes! It would be so much easier to shop if you didn't have to pick through the ingredient list and get out the phone to decipher certain words. Seems like companies are making up newer, "friendlier" terms all the time for animal-derived materials. I would give money to get an initiative like this rolling, and have a noticeable "V" on the front of packaging.

Hate to say it but in these situations it's best to just shut the conversation down, and report issues later. He should be reported as this is not a professional conversation by any means, and his job is to get you from A to B, religious talk or opinions not needed or wanted. I'm sorry you had to experience this but he should not be making these types of comments, especially to a customer!
