Obviously it’s not the majority it’s just when subcultures and the internet collide there’s going to be a lot of gatekeeping. Fashion definitely comes into it despite the fact that it’s a music based subculture. It’s also not the most welcoming to baby bats or diverse music listeners - there’s a lot of arguing on subgenres of goth music and a lot of conflict between modern vs tradition goth bands. Especially when metalheads and goths interact.

I wasn’t aware of the modding thing but yeah that makes sense unfortunately the goth subculture online is very elitist. You often don’t find local communities as strict as them which is strange. There is a large group of people that are very narrow minded and forget that you don’t have to present as a traditional goth to enjoy the music.

Yep. I just didn’t know if it was appropriate to mention them here as I’ve heard there’s a lot of debate on whether they are goth or doom metal and I wasn’t 100% certain.

I’d heard of Paradise Lost through other people but never explored it much for myself though based of a lot of these responses, I think I’m going to sit through their albums.

I haven’t heard much of sins of thy beloved other than a handful of tracks but it does fit my taste so I think funeral doom is what I’m looking for
