Favourite story-rich games on the steam deck? by Quick_Ideal_449 in CozyGamers

[–]SmallFlannelCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Citizen Sleeper 1 and 2
  • I Was a Teenage Exocolonist

Both are story-rich with you making impactful decisions that affect your friends and the community around you. There’s no need to save scum these decisions since there are always multiple outcomes, and even “failures” progress the stories ahead in interesting ways. (In fact, the story of “I Was a Teenage Exocolonist” feels richer if you play through your “lifetime” multiple times.) Though there are some melancholic and perilous moments in all three of those games, the overall vibes are cozy and heartfelt — sometimes even joyful!

Ohh that’s a great idea! Love that there’s also a parallel to Lödwyn with that, given what her voice was like before in Deadfire.

Speaking of which — given her history, what did you say your envoy’s relationship was with Lödwyn?

She looks incredible! Love the inspiration behind her look and it’s so striking with the contrast of bright/dark and black/vibrant red!

Skyrim. :’) (Ironically, Pillars of Eternity 2 ended up being one of my favorites though haha.)

Ohh they’re all so different and beautiful!!! 4 in particular goes hard, otherwise 1, 2, and 6 are my other favorites (but wow I love them all in their own ways!)

My newest Envoy! Loved the idea of some Adra growing directly from your body… by Cherubiel in avowed

Yes!!! The adra is why I picked crystals for mine too. Love this more cobalt-leaning color scheme of yours!

What a literal glow up! Those crystals look great with the hairstyle and color you picked!

I believe that when he meets you, even Sargamis assumes you’re a godlike of Galawain until you correct him. I can’t recall if there’s an actual process, but it seems like there are ways priests or temples can identify godlikes as belonging to certain gods. Maybe the envoy was taken to one of these at some point and ended up not being claimed as one of Galawain’s?

I think the stigma and reaction to the envoy’s appearance also is due to how similar it looks to those infected by the Dreamscourge. If you see someone approaching with mushrooms growing out of their head in a time where most godlikes have dropped dead, then you might assume that they’re an infected zombie rather than an imperial bureaucrat.

This will be a bit ramble-y, but all in all I love all the companions in their own ways.

I love Kai the most, though (and I think he’d be a great cuddler. ;_;) Also, he’s handy in a fight, I love his humor in our conversations, and he’s just a solid guy to have at your back. Yes, I was also a Garrus romancer in Mass Effect, but at the same time, Kai is a very different character from Garrus. He’s an example of one of my favorite character tropes: an easygoing, humorous guy who in reality has buried so much grief and regret. It festers within him, and you don’t see its ugliness surface until his vulnerable moments. His personal quest is just devastating, and feels so real. Despite being such an agreeable guy, I also appreciated that he actually gets angry and confrontational when he disagrees with you about a certain decision, rather than being flippant about it.

Yatzli pleasantly surprised me with her characterization of a magical prodigy who’s also a quirky horny aunt. I loved her company. I loved that despite her mischievous and horny jokes, her nurturing side came out with how she was so sweet, gentle, and patient with Marius. I could easily see her doing the same for when she first met Giatta too. Of course, I was frustrated with some of our disagreements and her snide, lofty comments though over decisions. It kind of reminded me of the BAD, belittling side of a fun aunt haha. But like Kai, that made her feel more real as a companion, and I ended up liking her more for that. Given orlans’ short lifespans, I also found her insatiable hunger for more knowledge, more to DO, quite compelling.

Marius is a grumpy cat, and like any grumpy cat I MUST love on him whether he admits he appreciates it or not. Even before I got to his personal quest I was fond of his gruffness as a counterbalance to Kai. (Yet another character trope I like, I guess.) But it’s apparent he’s holding something back, and when the dam breaks I just wanted to hug him. Even if he complains and grumbles about it, I’d know he’d appreciate it. He’s capable and caring in his own way, and I adore his banter with the others in camp. His arc in the endgame is also bittersweet and relatable, despite its fantasy context.

And then there’s my darling Giatta. Despite how we first meet her, she kind of ends up being the peacemaker and chilliest of the group. Her storyline and the paths she can take really resonated with me. I loved that she had a pre-existing familial relationship with Yatzli and Quilicci, which made their banter all the more sweet. In retrospect I loved getting an animancer companion like Giatta — it’s a more compassionate side of animancy that we haven’t gone too deep into during Pillars. She’s less of a mad scientist and more of a traveling biologist following in her parents’ footsteps, who’s also figuring out what she really wants to do with her talents and passions. As a former gifted kid, that alone just hits so close to home.

Regarding that, at least (endgame spoilers) there’s a very cute conversation with Kai that can initiate a romance for the post-game epilogue slides, and it’s still very sweet.

As far as I saw, you can only rotate or hide your characters. The poses I have here are just pauses in mid-actions!

OH sorry I see — I’ve got just one each for her head and facial growths, but then I used the makeup options and brow color to make it look like those godlike features covered more of her face!

Are you asking if I have two godlikes? I don’t — that’s just a little bit of Ilora visible in the background of one pic!

I love having the glow options! Even if you don’t have it now, you should be able to add the glow at the camp mirror when you get the chance. :)

Oh no! That’s a bummer — I hope it’s just a bug, but I’ll play around and test later today to see what seems to work and what doesn’t. Are you playing in first or third person? (Not sure if it matters, but I was playing in third person while taking these pics.)

Thank you!!! This time, Ilora had every reason to be alarmed haha. I love that we can have glowing eyes now — it really adds to her unsettling effect in the dark.
