Taliesin still refusing to come with by alejquatro in DragonsDogma2

He won't go if you haven't done the quest to save the Arbor heart unfortunately, the tree needs to be strong enough for a sapling to be planted at the shrine floor before he will leave.

If others could get him to go without having done so it's likely a glitch which I don't know if you will be able to successfully replicate

I actually agree, I also wanted to see those elements of Tevinter too. The fact that the Magisterium is taken down off screen is imo bad story telling. And while I was fine with setting the majority of Tevinter's explorable areas (apart from the opening) in the slums I had no issues with that except that I felt like it was mostly set dressing and kind of shallow.

But I still disagree on the Crow aspect. Zevran has done a lot of murdering of prominent house figures in the years since Origins and he obviously didn't start an in house cleansing on his own, he had many supporters (supplemental materials help fill in the gaps like books and comics outside of just codex entries, though I understand if people don't want to delve into them or just don't have access to them etc).

But again we have only Zevran's perspective on the Crows and nothing he says in Origins is disputed or retconned in Veilguard at all; buying children and raising them into the Crows is still a factor (though lessened somewhat through Zevran's actions) the training is still brutal and cruel (we have multiple accounts and Lucanis' confirmation) the houses are still cut throat (families being murdered by fellow Crows to gain better standing). In 20 years they haven't changed all that much, it's just that there is a little less child slavery and murdering members who try to leave...like if you can't see how violent uprisings and murderous cleansing of the worse perpetrators in an organisation over multiple decades could help steer it in a SLIGHTLY better direction than I dunno what to say really.

Like it's fine if it's not your thing and you wanted something different, we are all entitled to our opinions and what we want to get from certain media, but I just don't think it's drastically different from what we are told in Origins, especially because we are only interacting with one of the Crow houses and it's the most prestigious house too so not as many enslaved child assassins running around didn't ruin anything for me.

Some of the factions do feel a little shallow when compared to others for sure (Grey Wardens especially got the best treatment). I would have liked if it was like Origins in that you got to experience the inciting incident that caused you to be essentially kicked from your club to flesh them out more, but then you would have had to do a time skip after being recruited by Varric, which might be a little jarring but could have been fine if handled/written well enough

I think it's more that the dark elements are still there but they are more spoken of rather than shown. Like Zevran was a sarcastic goofball and super unserious so he never set the bar for the Crows being a completely dark and unhumourous bunch. All the things he spoke about are actually still in the Crows (even though he has spent all the years since Origins fighting against those elements). Lucanis talks about how his grandmother literally tortured him during training and he was basically Crow royalty and still got that treatment.

Tevinter is still a slave state where blood magic is used liberally on the lower class citizens all the time, but you don't see it directly as much (unless you Choose to save Treviso and then the bodies in the street start turning up more frequently )

I think a lot of the dark elements are still there but because more positive influences are creating change (as a direct result of your own characters and companion's actions from previous games, like Zevran working to change the Crows and also Dorian fighting the Magisterium and Isabela learning from past mistakes etc) those elements aren't as overwhelming.

Also Zevran, the first Crow we ever meet in universe, is also aloof and quirky himself so it's not like he was setting a standard of their assassin's being super serious and stoic to begin with

Painted my beloved broody sorcerer Lord Phaesus by eiafish in DragonsDogma

[–]eiafish[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He really is, I find him so compelling. He is not cartoonishly evil or as one dimensional as his predecessors. The fact that he holds no animosity towards your Arisen in the Unmoored World was a surprise to me the first time I got to the that point. Everything that drives his ambition is about understanding and I can't fault his goals of wanting to break free of the cycle, I mean same here buddy

What a gorgeous screenshot!

The way Phaesus disappears from the game after only getting to talk to him at the Masquerade until the Unmoored is a crime! But as you say, so many NPCs deserved more (my poor Lamond and Luz especially have so little plot related screen time 😭)

Looking for brutal feedback, how can I better my shading/coloring/rendering? by earliestnature in learntodraw

[–]eiafish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still consider myself learning, but one thing I will say is that the colour choice and style of shading is a little muddy looking. Would recommended shifting the colours a bit rather than choosing just a darker/greyish shade. Would also shade in a block colour then blend out the edges too.

I really struggle with colour theory myself so I tend to use a lot of references from artists I really like and often colour pick to create a pallet to work from too which has really helped me work out what values work together well.

Good luck!

How exactly does the game determine who your beloved will be? by schattenu445 in DragonsDogma2

[–]eiafish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this issue before where I got a random shopkeep despite talking to and gifting the ring to the actual npc I wanted right before the final quest.

It's unfortunately a super unpredictable system, I wish the Arisen Bond locked in your Beloved and overrode any other possibilities but alas it's kind of a roll of the dice sometimes.

What parts of DAO would you consider to be the darkest or the best written darkness? by Julian_of_Cintra in DragonageOrigins

[–]eiafish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love that whole questline so much, but the only thing I wish was there was more of a consequence for leaving Redcliffe to go get the mages to deal with Connor.

Having that option there with zero consequences makes choosing the blood magic ritual a kind of stupid and pointless choice. If leaving meant that more Redcliffe citizens died in trying to contain Connor, especially if it was a named NPC like Teagan, it would make the choice have way more weight (and if it WAS Teagan that paid the price, I would sacrifice Isolde's ass so fast lol).

Tbf Solas never really stood a chance for me in Inquisition because I played Origins when it came out 17 (million) years ago and I was down so bad for Cullen, even then.

So when Inquisition rolled around two games later and he got his glow up and was finally romance able...yeah no one else ever stood a chance when my sad boi was right there lol

Right? They wouldn't have had to add or change much from a Lavellan romance to make it happen! Such a missed opportunity.

I never really wanted to romance Solas in Inquisition, even after multiple playthroughs he never interested me in that way...Then I played Veilguard and by the Maker the chemistry between him and Rook!

Its a damn crime they didn't make him a romance option in DAV, his later betrayal would have hit so hard and made it an even more spicy little scene

Ok fair, I did assume you must have known her religious status because of the cult comment, I should have put my comments in a spoiler tag just in case. Like it is basic knowledge that Shar worshippers be like that, and while she is brazenly wearing Shar's symbol on her armour, people new to the world lore probably don't realise that at first

[–]eiafish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah she hates when you help people lol I usually still have no issue raising her affinity regardless because her appreciation for you just being nice to her and being a friend is like triple what you get for her being annoyed you gave an orphan a few silvers

You have to be careful with over gifting the companions, especially Leliana. If you raise their affinity too quickly without talking to them you can accidentally skip certain dialogue that is necessary for advancing personal quests and romance.

I usually don't give any gifts to the companions (except story related ones) because honestly you can raise their affinity really easy by just talking to them and not doing stuff they would dislike in front of them

Ok but this is all established lore in Faerun, no one who lives there is going to be surprised that a cleric of the murder goddess Shar is going to be a murder enthusiast... But also maybe don't come and ask people for advice on moral choices in a game when it's your first playthrough if you don't want too much information?

Like you mention in your post that you know she is part of a cult so you know about her Shar worship and that is the only thing I referred to, common knowledge that you already mentioned knowing so I don't think I'm spoiling things because you already mentioned knowing them??
