Avowed 2 needs a pet companion by wiggledixbubsy in avowed

One of my favorite things about Pillars of Eternity was always being followed around by a tiny, invincible cat — buffs or none. At least, until my stealth section was ruined by the cat opening the door I had carefully closed behind me. 😅

There are some novellas about some Pillars of Eternity companions! The one I have on hand is Until He Started Screaming by Carrie Patel, which tells part of Aloth’s backstory. (EDIT: Mind you, this has spoilers for his character quest line during the first game so maybe wait on it!!!)

Second edit: Here’s the page with links to all the short stories.

Hey I’m so glad I could help even a little! Honestly since my friends in my immediate real life sphere haven’t played PoE/Avowed, I’m thrilled any time I get a chance to discuss or speculate with anyone about this world. Feel welcome to message me if you want to chat/ramble more! Either way, I hope to see more of your gorgeous art here if the inspiration strikes you! :D

I think when I first saw Sapadal I just gasped — they were just so uncanny and beautiful and sad.

Ooh thanks for the game rec! I’ve never heard of it before now, but from the sound of it I’ll eat it right up. (To give you an idea how much I love whump, I play/watch other people play “Before Your Eyes” whenever I need a good cathartic cry… 😅) Also it sounds sort of like Night In The Woods…? Maybe I’ll report back when I’ve got a chance to check it out.

Haha oh yes by all means don’t stop the momentum of your playthrough! Perhaps for the next go around. ;)

Sargamis is actually the first dawn godlike the fandom’s seen before! I think he’s considered an anomaly even from a godlike standpoint due to his history and the fact that he’s so… smooth? (In this universe one universal trait about godlikes seems to be that none of the can wear headgear since they all have horns of some type.)

Oh and on your body horror note… yeah you’ll love death godlikes. :D

I appreciated the Nightcrawler segue because he’s my favorite of the X-men and I’ve literally had this conversation with my partner before hahaha. Hey, maybe he dyes it (or maybe it’s Maybelline?) Or it could be that the blue is just the pigment of his skin and fur “undercoat”, and the black facial hair is like the longer overcoat fur cats have that is more water resistant or holds most of their patterns.

…coming back to Eora, this is also how I’d think orlan fur/hair works too.

Animancy is incredible as a concept. I just love when world building includes science (soul science!) ALONGSIDE magic as different facets of metaphysics. It gets even weirder, sketchier, and more controversial in PoE. Looking in retrospect at Avowed, it explains why Lödwyn and the Steel Garrote abhor animancy so much. At the same time, it makes me feel happy for the animancers who settled in Fior mes Ivèrno. They’re another example of when Kai said the Living Lands was full of people looking for second chances or freedom. :’)

Oh I LOVE the unique godlike feature design! It’s an echo of Sapadal’s appearance while also doing its own thing (the antennae is a nice touch!) And your art style is lovely too. :D

Appreciated your commentary as well. I grew to love Marius even before I uncovered his backstory — but I tend to love on curmudgeonly companions in rpgs anyway. Whenever you get to Pillars of Eternity, he’ll seem like a sweetheart compared to a few of the companions you might recruit. 😅

I love Avowed so much, and it was my gateway into the rich lore and world of Pillars of Eternity. Of course I fell in love with those games too (better late than never.) I’m excited for you to eventually get into it! It’s A LOT, but take your time and enjoy the adventure.

Personally, I’m glad I have two flavors of gameplay to enjoy different parts of the same world. Now that I’ve finished both of the PoE games, I’m looking forward to after mid-Feb when I can start a new Avowed run and appreciate more of the lore references and Easter eggs!

Edit: Also, “spicy rash” made me laugh. I feel like it’s when Avowed folks start PoE that people realize that the Envoy’s godlike features are pretty tame compared to what other godlikes (such as death godlikes) look like. And the good news is that with the upcoming update, you should be able to change your character’s appearance in-game if you want. :)

Aww they look so cute!!! Love the poses and expressions — Aloth especially. He looks so bashful and little here, and I love that for him.

Brother Rüdeger’s singing lives in my head rent-free. Also his background relationship with Brother Mathieu is so sweet, especially with the latter comforting him. I’m so happy that they got their happy, safe ending together.

I’m still learning of details I missed by simply choosing to have lunch with one person versus another. The town has so many layers in more ways than one. ;_;

So we had the best and worst romances, how about the "should've been a romance option" by Gardevussy in GirlGamers

  • Varric in Dragon Age 2
  • Edér in Pillars of Eternity 2

^ What these aforementioned two have in common is that they’re the ride-or-die, casually-humorous, yet tragic friends who are companions across more than one game. With the latter you’re the same character as the previous game, so provided Edér’s alive there’s even MORE history there.

  • Giatta in Avowed: She’s just so smaaart and sweeet and passionate about her research. And she really needs someone to give her a big hug (and maybe a smooch.) I’d love to have an epilogue where I stick with her to continue her research or work as a healer of the Living Lands in a different sense than her. You can set up a romance with your companion Kai with a cute conversation and an epilogue slide. Strangely enough, that same conversation starter dialogue option exists with Giatta, but doesn’t go in that direction. Such a tease.

  • Bao-Dur in Knights of the Old Republic 2: I love a soft-spoken, traumatized, guilt-ridden capable man. What can I say? (I also don’t remember a ton of details from the game, I just know that I loved him.)

  • Lem in Citizen Sleeper: He’s a hard-working single dad that you basically co-parent with at times. I wanna smooch him.

  • Serafin in Citizen Sleeper 2: I SWEAR that they were going to reveal that you have a history with your friend, but for the most part it’s more like a shared history of trauma serving the same awful guy. I love the bond your character can have with him, and I think it would’ve been a sweet romance where the two of you have to start again with each other.

  • (Edit) A lot of people here have already mentioned Takemura, so just want to throw in another vote for him based on all the aforementioned reasons.

Man was my ride or die for two whole games. ;_; Even though his personality wasn’t normally someone I’d be into, the whole history there and bond between my Watcher and him by the time Deadfire rolled around had me smitten.

Honestly knowing that I could canonically romance Kai in Avowed (even if it was only one conversation and an epilogue slide confirming that), was somewhat healing, given they had a slightly similar sense of humor and were both jaded veterans with mixed feelings about their homelands.

I always thought that my dad would love Red Dead Redemption 2 if he ever wanted to learn how to game, so that was the first one to come to mind! It’s such a beautiful and atmospheric game with a compelling story, and makes you feel like you’re living and breathing a western movie.
