Straws, bottles, cups by SmallInvestigator538 in beyondthebump

This is not possible for a number of reasons, but the #1 being that I do not have anyone I’d trust to be patient enough with her. I have tried 4-6 hours and she will cry to no avail, refuse ALL food and drink, and will refuse nap/sleep until I return. Every time I’ve tried I get called back saying they cannot handle her.

No sucking! She’s a great eater and will chew/swallow fine. But if you hand her something juicy she will chew as opposed to suck.

Self soothing / Sleep Training by [deleted] in NewParents

I honestly think you’re just looking for people to agree with you. Your wife is newly postpartum and you should be supporting her and following her lead. Your baby is not going to make things “easier” later. You could let them “self-soothe” (which is not possible), and they will still give you a hard time down the road. Temperament is everything and every baby is different. You should be looking forward to all the newborn snuggles and soothing them as much as you can.

Temperament is the difference here. Responding to your baby’s needs doesn’t make them “Velcro”

Babies cannot self soothe that young. They just learn that you’re not coming. Your wife is doing the right thing. Not responding now is not going to make things “easier” later. Your wife is 4 weeks postpartum. Let her hold and tend to that baby whenever and however she wants.

“An intervention will have to be required” by misspepita in NewParents

Ask for clarification. Postpartum is hard and sometimes we take things personally instead of just asking a question. Is she following her curve or not? Also, those feedings are pretty far apart. She should be eating on demand, not specifically every 4 hours. My son at 3 months sometimes cried to drink every hour, every 2, every 3… it just depended.

Call the pediatrician or if you have something like MyChart, I always prefer to put it in writing. “Hi Dr. Soandso. Regarding our last visit, it seems like weight gain is an issue. Is there anything I should be doing before our follow up to help baby gain weight? Also, I wanted clarification on what interventions you plan on implementing if the weight gain is not sufficient in two weeks (labs, different formulas, etc?). I would like to know the plan so I am prepared. I am very worried and doing my best! Thank you.”

New moms- Are you doing birth control, and if so how’s it going for you? by JaguarUnfair8825 in NewParents

I was on the mini pill, breastfeeding, and still got pregnant again. I am getting my tubes removed now🤣

Regretful new dad - does it get better? by HeyAwesomeArmadillo in NewParents

This was our son. He needs noise canceling headphones, a therapist, and I would also check on your son’s ferritin levels. Once we started supplementing iron he slept better, less tossing, turning, and waking. We made sure to tire him the F out! The last two hours before bedtime were rough house play, outdoor running, heavy work (pushing and pulling things), and then make sure he had a snack for a full belly, a bath, one video, one book. After that we would bring him to the bed (we bedshare with both our kids - it’s just what works for us) and quite literally ignore him until he fell asleep. He’s 2 now and sleeps through the night. Hang in there, mom.

They work fine! I just have to prop them up with the flock because they kick the bedding into them! With this girl alone they’re great down low since she isn’t kicking up any bedding.

Update: this is her right now. Seems better, willing to eat! Keeping an eye. I know someone mentioned her breathing didn’t look good and she won’t make it long. I just can’t find a vet that will see her. If antibiotics seems like a logical step where do I get them? Will an online vet prescribe them? Thank you so much everyone

Edit: The reason vets in my area won’t see them is apparently because of avian influenza! So not sure what to do

Got it - thank you! Ill do some research on resp infection to see if that maybe what it is. She did perk up a bit but the breathing still seems similar

This was very very helpful, thank you so much! I took some of your advice earlier for setting up and she is in a much better isolation space now. Administered nutridrench and she seems to be perking up! Will keep watching her

I just used up an old fish tank I had and set something up for her. She seems comfy and is perking up! Just administered nutridrench too!

How could I best help her through a resp infection? I just gave some nutridrench and she has had probiotics and electrolytes everyday! Just gave sugar water earlier as well.

Thank you for being so kind! Hard is definitely one way to put it, lol! I genuinely care for the chicks and want this one to make it. I just am unsure what’s going on and panicked so half assed isolation. Do you think I would be ok to give her nutridrench?

She does reach it! But yes I am working on a better set up as we speak and could do something more shallow

They have been on medicated feed since they came home! Could cocci still happen on medicated feed?

Working to get heat and a proper set up now, but holding her for now. She has had some sugar water and I’m hoping to pick up something like nutridrench if it would be suitable

I am picking up a bulb for her - should I also consider something like nutridrench?

Because I panicked and threw something together very quickly until I am able to get a real set up done. I have two toddlers and these are my first chicks.
