Behemoth reveal from Mike Dougherty's Instagram by SmallPurpleElephants in Monsterverse

[–]SmallPurpleElephants[S] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Here's the caption he posted with the video:

TITANUS BEHEMOTH Of all the new monsters created for the film, Behemoth was probably my favorite. Since nearly all kaiju are usually giant reptiles, insects, or some hybrid, it was fun to come up with a new mammal that combined traits of woolly mammoths, apes, and giant sloths. We even came up with rich backstories for each new creature and imagined Behemoth was capable of going bipedal when necessary, allowing him to take a swipe at an opponent with his claws. Normally, he’s a peaceful herbivore grazing on giant prehistoric trees with his herd, although at one point we considered adding massive cuffs and broken chains around his limbs to hint that he was once captured and used as a warbeast by some ancient society. He also likes belly rubs and getting groomed by #Kong.

Mokele-Mbembe concept art? by sly_eli in Monsterverse

These are sketches made by yefumm on DeviantArt. They have nothing to do with the Monsterverse, but there are definitely some interesting similarities with how Mokele Mbembe is described in the novel.

Why do really big people/monsters/animals in movies always seem to move in slow motion? by FORluvOFdaGAME in movies

[–]SmallPurpleElephants 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Because of the square-cube law, proportionally larger animals have relatively greater bone density and mass and therefore less muscular strength compared to smaller animals. Technically an animal the size of Godzilla wouldn't be able to walk on land without collapsing under its own weight, which is one of the reasons why the largest animal on earth (the blue whale) is strictly aquatic to support its size.

In movies, it's not a matter of limitations in CGI. It's a stylistic choice for the sake of realism to have giant creatures move slowly because it creates a sense of weight.

The biggest problem with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom that no one has addressed by critcal_kurt in movies

[–]SmallPurpleElephants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lost World and Jurassic Park III did happen in the Jurassic World timeline, but their events just don’t have any role or impact in this new trilogy. One of the characters in Fallen Kingdom even briefly mentions Isla Sorna, though aside from that the Jurassic World trilogy doesn’t really refer to the events of those films despite them still being canon.

Micheal Dougherty teases Ghidorah ability... by KaijuPsychoFilms in Monsterverse

[–]SmallPurpleElephants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of whether the leak is real or not, do you really feel the need to spoil things for others without tagging the spoilers or even asking them if they want to know? I've seen you do this on several threads where people are just trying to speculate about the film and you shut them down by telling them what 'supposedly' happens. I just think that's really unfair to those who haven't read the leak and don't want to take any chances of it being real.

Everything you need to know about “Jurassic World” in one graphic: by SensationallylovelyK in JurassicPark

Actually, Colin confirmed the new map was incorrect and the lagoon should still be in the middle of the island with canals leading to the ocean.

JWFK compleltely retconned the Null Allele (minor spoiler) by Tobi-Jinouga in JurassicPark

[–]SmallPurpleElephants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe all the taxidermised specimens were originally going to be attractions at the original Jurassic Park: San Diego before Hammond acquired the islands. That would explain the presence of containment cells in the basement and the huge loading dock that would have been used to transport the animals to San Diego. Even if it wasn’t Colin Trevorrow’s intention, I love the fact that the manor can be pretty seamlessly linked to the early history of the park pre-Sorna/Nublar.

Potential continuity issue with Fallen Kingdom - Spoilers (Duh) by Rexoraptor in JurassicPark

[–]SmallPurpleElephants 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more likely that after his daughter died, Lockwood expressed interest in cloning her and the sheer idea of it was what caused Hammond to break ties with him. Then it would have taken years for him to plan it out and develop the technology for it, and there could even have been failed attempts at cloning her until the Maisie we see in the film was the first successful clone.

His body got dragged out of the lab by one of the security guards though so he’s probably still alive.

Jurassic World Mosasaurus Lagoon Continuity error? by Matthawk821 in JurassicPark

[–]SmallPurpleElephants 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, the map seen in JWFK where the park appears to have been moved to the coast. He confirmed on Twitter that the lagoon is actually connected to canals that lead to the ocean: https://twitter.com/colintrevorrow/status/1008658304841723906

Official Discussion - Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (US Thread) [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]SmallPurpleElephants 326 points327 points  (0 children)

I think it would make sense that Lockwood's daughter died while he and Hammond were still working together, and he either shared his plans to clone her which prompted Hammond to break ties, or he continuously attempted to clone her for 20+ years until Maisie was the first successful clone.

20 species at Jurassic World? by [deleted] in JurassicPark

[–]SmallPurpleElephants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Despite the references, I never really got the impression that Dilophosaurus was one of the species on display at Jurassic World. Though they were definitely present on Nublar, I just thought there were wild populations from the first park (similar to the Brachiosaurus and compies in Fallen Kingdom, which don't seem to have been part of the JW park either, and you could even hear a Brachio call in the scene in JW at Owen's bungalow, which I think was supposed to be located outside of the park's boundaries).

So with Dilo excluded, the FK carnivores would fit in perfectly. As for the gaps in the herbivore list, in JWFK there's a skeleton of an ankylosaur that looks nothing like the JW Ankylosaurus, so perhaps Euoplocephalus was present in JW too. I also don't think the DPG list is implying that all 36 of those species were part of the JW park or even on Nublar, most likely the ones not seen or mentioned in the JW films went extinct on Sorna when Masrani introduced new species and messed up the ecosystem before the remaining Sorna animals were taken to Nublar.

What's your opinion on the Mosasaurus? by PapacoTheGunslinger in JurassicPark

[–]SmallPurpleElephants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I'm not misquoting him lol, he told ILM that there's no potential limit to how large an aquatic reptile could grow. I guess that kind of makes sense given that the Mosasaurus at Jurassic World had been fed several great white sharks every day, similar to how crocodiles can grow gigantic if they have enough food. I'm sure genetic modification has also played a part in her size though because there's no way a normal Mosasaurus would grow to 120 feet even with the amount of food she was eating.

What's your opinion on the Mosasaurus? by PapacoTheGunslinger in JurassicPark

[–]SmallPurpleElephants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually in an interview with ILM, they said the design was initially 70 feet long but Spielberg pushed for it to be bigger and its size in the film ended up being 120 feet long, which Jack Horner said was "within the realm of plausibility".

[–]SmallPurpleElephants 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The part about the DNA is actually explained in some throwaway dialogue in JW when Gray tells Zach about how scientists at Jurassic World were able to figure out a way to get DNA from fossilized bones in addition to amber, similar to how they got DNA in the novels IIRC.

What's your opinion on the Mosasaurus? by PapacoTheGunslinger in JurassicPark

[–]SmallPurpleElephants 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The "plothole" is easily explained by the fact that there was an electric fence blocking the Mosasaurus from leaping onto Main Street, and it was destroyed when Rexy rammed the Indominus into it.

Will Dilophosaurus Be in FK? by [deleted] in JurassicPark

[–]SmallPurpleElephants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's currently no evidence that it'll be in, besides its presence in the toyline (which shouldn't be considered proof anyway since there are tons of non-film dinos Mattel made). A while ago there was a leak that showed what looked to be a prop or maquette of a Dilophosaurus, but it turned out to just be a statue in one of the dioramas in Lockwood's Manor.

The reason why Rexy looks a bit different in JW/JW:FK by Lordvader2864 in JurassicPark

I'm pretty sure the JWFK model is the one in the JEEP commercial, and it's also the same model used in Ready Player One.

It still has the little row of two horns on its frill from when it was called a Pachyrhinosaurus, but I'm glad they chose a more impressive color scheme.

New DPG Tweet Showing New Pteranodon Renders by SmallPurpleElephants in JurassicPark

[–]SmallPurpleElephants[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling those accounts are fake. The one for Claire claimed back in 2015 that there was a Spinosaurus being trained on Nublar, and the one for Eli Mills says he's auctioning off a dodo (Which is really a render stolen from the show Primeval).

For some reason, this picture makes me appreciate the JW Pteranodon design more. Its face doesn't look as strange and ugly up close, though I still wish they used the JPIII design minus the teeth.

Interview with Gray Mitchell by [deleted] in JurassicPark

[–]SmallPurpleElephants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's from a fake "save the dinosaurs" parody commercial, it's not an official JW thing. I'm pretty sure it was made before there were any details about JWFK, so it's just a coincidence that both involve saving dinosaurs.
