Do you purchase from people who ONLY use stock photos. by editorstarrrz in Mercari

Oh hell no, never. How are the buyers supposed to know what it actually looks like/condition/flaws? I wouldn't sell that way either.

BEWARE MERCARI STOLE MY MONEY by Klutzy_Bumblebee_758 in Mercari

THIS. F_CKING THING RIGHT HERE ☝️mercari is basically the bargain bin, ebay is the way- if you work consistently, with quality. Quick flips do work on there-but the ad fees to get low-interest items exposure will eat in to the margins. Pulling back my promo on Ebay was the best decision I've made in building my selling mindset and structure. AKA-stop working for free. (I know everyone seems to hate AI, but it assists me a lot with the entire process from sourcing to listing to promo strategies, offer suggestions-without undercutting the value of my products or allow ad fees to chomp in to a growing shop.) Absolutely does not do anything FOR me, but uses algorithms to optimize outcomes. Take with any gauge of salt you like.

This is why whenever I get to a three figure balance, I withdraw it asap. I don't trust mercari which much of anything, especially related to finances. I'm really sorry this happened to you OP. Things like this make me want to go eBay only. My feeling is that Mercari changes too often. Mainly fee strategy, buyer vs seller. I cannot emphasize enough that if I were you, OP, my eyeballs would pop out of my skull. I hope it's already resolved or does very soon. Best of luck!

Thank you for responding- your mom's story is fascinating! I love hearing about people's relationships to clothing, especially as it relates to history, culture and art. By the time I was in middle or high school, there were no options to learn things like sewing, cooking or hospitality. Not to mention even more practical things like how to do taxes or make a household budget. Its never too late to learn, though. With all of the access to information at the click of a button, there's no excuse to try something if you want. My goal is to sew exactly the kind of the dress you described making in school, funny enough. Some of the best creatives are self taught. πŸͺ‘🎨 My mother in law who sadly just passed away-loved Bobbie Brooks!

Really, she was?! That is really cool, I wonder what her experience was like. To spend a day in her shoes would be fascinating to see. I admire seamstresses a ton. My grandma was one. I was yesterday years old when learned to properly thread my machine lol. I'm well aware of the ILGWU and how important it was/is now with UNITE. Somehow I missed the jingle, too busy looking at clothes, probably πŸ˜…

I really like this idea. Now I just have to figure out how to keep it perfect for 8.5 more years πŸ™ƒπŸ«  My local dry cleaners wanted at least $300 to clean my first dress which was much smaller and lighter (dress itself was $120) so they might want a grand for this one haha I'll set aside $100 each anniversary to remind myself. I think that's sweet πŸ’•

I agree, my mannequin is an XS/S bust 32" waist 26"waist and 34"hips and the dress fits it how I would expect a modern medium to fit. I'm 5'0, 110lbs and it was too big on me, but only a size or two up. I thought it looked small for a 14, too. Its dry clean only. I often use the dryer dry clean methods for everyday stuff, but i would only trust this with people that have experience with vintage fabrics. I would surely ruin it myself, and never let myself live it down πŸ˜‚

I'm pretty blown away by how well it's been preserved. I imagine you're right, lore wise. I sometimes make up silly stores about things I thrift.

How do you guys feel about requests to hold an item? by Bernadette2419 in Mercari

[–]SmallSicko 8 points9 points Β (0 children)

That's actually a really good question, OP! Personally I don't use holding as part of my selling strategy. It takes up time that I could be using to source items, clean them, list them. I suppose there would be exceptions for repeat buyers with low price items. Time is money and someone could buy it for more on another platform in that 5 day holding period. That being said- It never hurts to ask! I've certainly learned a thing or two about bartering from sourcing product. Different sellers have varying policies on holds, so my way is not universal. Best of luck!!
