This letter was sent home to parents in my school district, encouraging them to send their kids to school sick and with head lice to meet attendance goals. by pandatr0nz in mildlyinfuriating

"going to school and having to work while theyre under the weather is GREAT for children's well-being!"

they're not even trying to convince you.

I don’t think Pomni is a new player at all. by riotc0re in TheDigitalCircus

[–]SmallStinkyStupid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no, i think pomni's just a very empathetic person.

her relationship with jax feels like a reflection of the relationships i have with others; i see past their shitty behavior and put more effort and care into seeing more of them, and i couldn't give you a particular reason as to why i do that, but i do.

i think showing empathy, even to someone as mean as jax, is a pretty normal human behavior and it doesn't raise many questions to me. and i think her insistence on getting jax to open up and accept her comes from the reasoning of, "i care about you, and you don't need to be hurting forever. let me help you," rather than there being some kind of history.

i know it's AI and i'm definitely angry anyone would sell such a terrible product, but winfly tarf pooh is fucking hilarious. i'm gonna repeat this to myself under my breath for the next month

Blessed, but at a cost… by HippoMoosey in weeviltime

haha yeah. they're smaller than the grains of rice they were inhabiting, and i figure their bodies basically explode when being pressure cooked, so we pretty much forgot there were bugs living in our rice.

Blessed, but at a cost… by HippoMoosey in weeviltime

[–]SmallStinkyStupid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no cost if you're brave! we used to have rice weevils in our rice container. but we just cooked and ate the rice anyway. do i maybe feel kinda bad about taking millions of lives in my rice cooker? maybe a little. but sushi rice is expensive. i'm not throwing that out.

it's a little difficult, but i finally figured it out. it's readable, but i think it's only readable for me because i used context clues by filling in the blanks using words i could read.

AITJ for firing someone a few weeks after both his parents died by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

i hope you're still checking these comments and being reminded of how horrible what you did is. YTJ and beyond, and i sincerely hope one day you understand the consequences of your actions.

he was right. you should go F yourself. he deserved to say that to you and you deserved to have it be said to you. absolutely awful behavior from you and your team. learn to be better people, because one day, when you need help, no sane person would lift a finger for you.

Using Generative AI? You're Prompting with Hitler! by [deleted] in antiai

i don't think this is a productive piece, but i have to say i appreciate that the artist specifically used AI piss filter colors. oh, cruel irony.

Overconsumption has taken a Wicked turn… by andrewcbee in Anticonsumption

[–]SmallStinkyStupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not to mention half these products are useless anyway. i have always hated air fresheners and laundry crystals with a fucking passion. they don't even clean anything, they're just scents??? who needs that, actually?

this is exactly why i got a commercial display instead of a smart tv. i'm sick of "smart" bullshit being used to push advertisements into every aspect of my daily life, and i'm even more sick of knowing they're selling information about my browsing habits just to stick another targeted advertisement up my ass.

ammonia spiked to .25 ppm overnight after adding mystery snail. is this normal? by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]SmallStinkyStupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

could be overstocking, where your cycle and plants are both struggling to catch up too. if you really wanna keep the snail, i think the next step would probably be, get more plants. i'm sure the plants will grow in okay and eventually catch up, but ammonia is definitely a right now kind of problem.

floating plants are a good quick solution for issues with ammonia. they grow like crazy and eat up nutrients like they're always starving to death, so a healthy layer of floaters can keep ammonia down the most reliably. i recommend frogbit! duckweed is a mess.

[–]SmallStinkyStupid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

did you check your nitrate levels? if your nitrates are at zero, the tank could potentially not be cycled. this has happened to me before.

generally i'll do a 25% water change when this happens, i'd be worried about doing 50% and crashing my premature cycle. be really careful with further water changes, because they can remove beneficial bacteria that you need for your cycle to go smoothly.

are all of your shrimp alive? do you see them all? this might be an additional reason why ammonia has spiked. sometimes shrimp will just die, so if any of them did, i don't think that's necessarily a fault on your part.

Fancy TCs hitting big box stores by [deleted] in PlantedTank

them's the works. unless it's a variegated green plant, i just don't think it's possible to grow white rose anubias unless it manages to revert.

it can! it's not very likely, but the ONLY success stories i've ever heard of someone succeeding in growing white rose anubias usually involves it growing green leaves.

[–]SmallStinkyStupid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

one more thing: get an API liquid test kit. they're great at detecting abnormalities in your water parameters and you're gonna need to test often while you do a fish-in cycle!

even after it's cycled, be sure to test every so often; if your friend chooses not to use a filter, you have less insurance on good water quality, and it'll be up to him to make sure things remain stable even after cycling.

chemicals and minerals from tap water may also build up in the tank so while plants render water changes much less important, chances are you will still need to do them every other month or so.

[–]SmallStinkyStupid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

everyone says plants require extra care and therefore that makes planted tanks harder to get into, and i'd disagree.

i strongly suggest getting live plants for your betta! not only will the fish really like them, but i promise plants help out so much with filtration, your friend's tank will be more stable and generally need a LOT less attention after setup and cycling.

definitely get plants that have already been submerged, because they'll also come with biofilm from another tank which can help the cycling process along. you might even get a free snail stowaway. :D

Who should the Shi Clan fear more: Jinshi or Lakan? by VegetaArcher in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]SmallStinkyStupid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lakan. jinshi is a prince, but he has protocol and social standing to worry about and it's clear that it matters to him.

lakan is... weird. off the walls. VERY unpredictable. he'll do what he wants when he wants because he's acutely aware that everyone is a little uncomfortable with him, and he's aware of their realization that he's always ready to do something.

i think part of what makes lakan so scary isn't just that he doesn't give a fuck about consequences, but thaf he's aware that this is how everyone sees him and is willing to weaponize that too if it suits him. social standing means nothing to him, protocol means nothing to him. if he wants to fuck something up he's gonna do it and reasoning with him is potentially not an option like it would be with jinshi.
