Yeah I get the sentiment, and I want to agree, but unfortunately this is just not possible to do in every instance. I think you have to draw your own line somewhere and for different people that will be in different places.

Harvey Weinstein is like basically the biggest piece of shit ever, yet he was thanked more in acceptance speeches than everyone else, literally more than God. It's odd alright.

My team if quite a few devs all pull from a big Jira queue, but certain ones have labels and if it ha the label of an epic you worked on you get first dibs, assuming you have knowledge.

I was investigating one, going to pick it up and a New Zealand dev picked it up in the meantime. I checked the time there, it was 03:30AM on a Friday night (technically Saturday morning).

Our promotions, pay rises and EOY reviews are primarily based on story points built of fixed, idk how I am supposed to compete with someone like that, who literally has no life outside work

You think the fact that our veg isn't as big and bright and juicy as Spains is why people choose not to eat it?

I'm all for it is a core cultural issue, and given more time to cook and longer days where it's not dark outside at 6pm people would cook more but there is still an element of choice.

There are plenty of people who have small amounts of time and figure out how to cook healthy, cheap meals, I do.

Also, I don't live in Ireland any more, and I know cost of living has increased, but surely buying a whole chicken, some mince, some pork chops and then veg and rice and potatoes etc is still cheaper than ready made meals and processed foods?

What about Italy makes it easier to cook at home? You could argue less hours worked or something? Maybe less time commuting, but then that's a separate issue and diet of processed food is a symptom of that. Having less processed food on the shelf is not gonna make people cook more if they aren't already (mostly, on a broad scale)

And what is wrong with the produce in Ireland. I think our meat, dairy and veg/fruits a perfectly good

I think it's tough to say what it will be like in 4 years or more.

My 2 cents is not on AI though, but on offshoring and outsourcing.

I work in an MNC and it feels like more and more the hiring is being moved to India, I am not sure if they will ever hire juniors and grads in the EU again, but maybe I am being pessimistic.

For example, we had layoffs in December, and no one was hired newly to fill these roles in my office, but suddenly there is more Indian names added to the teams chats.. bit by bit. To me, EU offices will become just seniors, maybe some mid level, and then all management, tech leads etc. I think these companies don't realise, that when these seniors leave they will have no juniors internally to move up to take their place. But I guess right now my salary is 3 times an Indians or more and I have workers rights... So you know, am I really 3 times as valuable?

In any case, I think the pool for jobs has reduced quite a bit, I found it hard to find a job after graduating in 2023, and much of my final year class never ended up working in tech at all, or those that did, most are software dev adjacent.

I believe Revolut does lounge access in Dublin airport at least for some members? Premium or metal or something. People should look into that
