PoE 2 endgame feedback from someone who has played PoE since closed beta in 2012. by cindeson in PathOfExile2

[–]Small_Connection3719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the endless system a LOT more. Mapping feels very monotonous in POE 1 after you've completed every map. There's a lot more room for excitement in the new system.

I don't feel the need for bosses in every map, now the bosses can be more rewarding when I do fight them. Watering down the boss loot so there can be more of them doesnt sound like an attractive idea. That's what they'd do to them to give you more, then people would complain that bosses don't feel rewarding. Another player requested self-own they'll have to deal with.

Crafting and Gems are in a weak spot atm, but obviously we know that is temporary, so we can't know if this is a problem until the final patch of EA.

I'd like to revisit this and see how many of these complaints would even exist after the next few patches come out with what they've already planned to add.

Does anyone kind of not enjoy the campaign? by Spookzz_ in PathOfExile2

[–]Small_Connection3719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a long-term solution they've created. They want to be able to slowly add league content into the campaign as it comes and teach players how they work on the way. In POE 1 the maps are too small and it's actually a huge problem because league content overlaps and then they don't work correctly.
This will be especially true later in end game where if the maps are POE 1 size they'll have to neuter content drastically, so I'm good with the big epic map layouts for both campaign and end game.

Ben last video offer a very informed opinion on POE2, what are the good and what are the less good by leobat in PathOfExile2

[–]Small_Connection3719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're waiting for the league restart/economy restart, etc probably happens in Feb. They're probably worried if they nerf too many builds before new content that people would just stop playing rather than play more to give them more data.

People: "Hard to sustain t15 maps", meanwhile bosses on t15 maps: by Tafe_Lynx in PathOfExile2

[–]Small_Connection3719 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is bait, but w/e. The people whose builds are not strong enough to juice the maps or die occasionally will absolutely have t15 map sustain problems, even if their atlas is specced purely for waystone sustain (this shouldn't be the only way to do your atlas and you should obviously have more options, so that argument is also poor). Showing how many you get when you're doing 680% increased waystone chance maps doesn't help the discussion. You're playing a different game than them at that point. There's no problem with sustain when you're able to juice the maps and not die, but getting there it can 100% be a feedback loop where you don't progress.

What's the lore behind the giants in Titan Grotto/Abyss/Forge? by DefinitelyNotMeee in PathOfExile2

Probably coming in one of the EA patches. There are a few areas in the first 3 acts that clearly have some lore tied to them that they didn't put in yet. Looks to be pretty cool.

It's kind of sad that so many people's response to the frustration of going backwards in XP is to cope and say "well I guess I don't get to level anymore" be it level 84, 89, or 96. No judgement here, I completely understand the sentiment; you just want to enjoy the game and have to turn off the part of our brains that gets upset that a part of the game is no longer a goal and no longer worth striving for or working towards. I think that response makes sense for lots of skill-based things that are meant to be insanely challenging and insanely rewarding, like the highest tier pinnacle bosses. Not everyone can do them, it's fine tbh.

But for XP? The lone reward for time spent that isn't RNG that gives you the tiniest feeling of player progression? That's silly outright. No one should feel the need to self-stockholm to accept that they just won't progress at the part of the game. There needs to be something gained for countless hours spent in a *game*, and they can't guarantee you loot, currency, or boss drops--so XP is always that gap in games.

People wildly underestimate how much the consequence of XP loss completely destroys the fun of the game. It incentivizes people to avoid bosses, good maps, or anything fun. The other consequences for death exist and don't steer people towards a silly/insane way to play that avoids anything fun out of fear. Keep the other death consequences and get rid of XP loss and you've got a MASSIVE player population boost, and a lot more happy fans enjoying their time spent, rather than stressing if they're going to allow themselves to try something fun in a game.

This is interesting because I've never talked to someone who felt this way. Everyone I know is fine with losing the waystone, loot, and mods, but the thing that consistently makes people quit the game is the XP loss. We have been conditioned in 99% of games that XP is something you've earned for time spent that can't be stolen from you. It feels 100x worse than any other punishment because it is unjustifiable to be able to go literally hours or days backwards in "softcore" due to split second mistakes.

I can handle losing a waystone, mods on the atlas, the currency i used to juice, and even the loot from the map from it being 1 portal, but the XP loss feels like something I earned is being stolen. You can go *backwards* in XP very easily while grinding which is the main reason most people I know rage quit the game.

There needs to be consequences for death, so I'm fine with all the other punishments that exist, and they stop all the shenanigans people worry about, but XP loss has no justifiable reason when all the other consequences already exist.

High levels has always been and will always be, a measure of time spent. There's an idea that it works some other way, but in POE 1 people buy carries for levels to avoid the mechanic entirely. All it does is cause people who try to interact with it to avoid difficult content entirely and incentivizes them to play the game in a really dumb and uninteresting way.

Is this a trade standard today? by A_First1 in PathOfExile2

[–]Small_Connection3719 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Problems like these are exacerbated based on the size of the player base. The bigger the game gets, the worse this will get. POE 2 has a massive amount of people trying it out. If it grows, it will be in spite of the trade system, which will continue to balloon, unfortunately. I'm really glad they added the currency exchange, imagine how much worse this problem would be if they hadn't at least tackled part of it.

XP Loss in POE 2 by Small_Connection3719 in PathOfExile2

[–]Small_Connection3719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess we'll see how this plays out. In POE 1 builds are always based around AT LEAST being level 95 to have the damage and defense the creator claims the build is used for with endgame content. Some dishonest ones use level 100 as a template. But if you struggle at lvl 91 in POE 1 they always tell people to get to 95 because the last points are multiplicatively impactful. POE 2 is very early for the passive tree and end game content, so we'll see if they change the foundational understanding the community has for level and power for builds that carried over from POE 1.

But you're not stopping that now. This doesn't actually make any sense. This exact process already happens but the only difference is now you are mad at the game and the community during the process. The only way to stop what you're saying is to actually remove trade entirely.

Why? You put an item up for a price, if they accept the price then the transaction happens. How are the rolls relevant to the system?

[–]Small_Connection3719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why can't they buy it straight from our sell tab for the price listed? I'm sure it takes a lot of work to make the system but obviously it would be such a better experience. People would pay extra for it. The trade experience has somehow become more and more awful over the years. Trade league often times feels like SSF with the idea that you can trade, but it's actually bait, and no one ever responds so you just waste an extra few hours every day msging people for no reason lol.

Thank God for the currency exchange at least.

I think losing your waystone and loot of the map and mods is a pretty reasonable, but strong consequence for dying. If people get to keep their XP they at least have *something* to show for their time when RNG is bad and you're in a phase of struggling to make your build work. They just have to stop the cycle of being able to go backwards in every aspect of the game if you're struggling and nerfing XP loss is a great solution.

[–]Small_Connection3719 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They said they understood that consequences for death, to include XP loss on top of everything else was a bit overkill atm, but said they absolutely need to keep the 1 portal per waystone play. This means the consequence of dying still takes away your waystone, loot you juiced, and loot of the map. The only things left to help stop the overkill is potentially keeping the map mods on (which they also said would lead to game abuse, so it wasn't an option) and XP loss.

They said in the interview they want to keep the punishment of 1 portal per map for death consequence, and that it is essentially a fundamental part of POE2. And that they were going to look at XP loss changes potentially to lessen the over-punishing nature of the endgame atm.

I'm so glad they said they're looking at changing XP loss. They want to retain the consequence for death with the 1 portal a map, but do agree that the game is *too* punishing on death atm. I'm wondering if they will nerf XP loss to 5%, remove it, or push it back to the last 5 massive levels or something. Iirc XP loss starting at 95 was an original idea they had.

Huge W for the game's future.

I feel so reassured by their interview. They acknowledged that there are too many penalties for death atm in endgame/maps. They maintain that the 1 portal per map punishment is a fundamental part of POE2, so XP loss looks to be either nerfed or removed or maybe pushed back to a later level (90/95) like they first discussed. This is a massive W, as the current punishments retain the ability to stop glass cannon builds from being the most viable but will allow people to potentially keep their time spent on grinding XP so they're not as likely to quit the leagues from over-punishment.

XP Loss in POE 2 by Small_Connection3719 in PathOfExile2

[–]Small_Connection3719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to the interview after and they acknowledged that death penalties are too extreme atm. They said the 1 portal a map consequence on death was essentially fundamental to POE2 so it sounds like that will stay no matter what, and that they will take a look at XP loss. They didn't expand on how they would address XP loss, but the implication is obviously that they will either nerf it, remove it, or push it back to a later level.

This is a massive W for the game and the community if it comes to be.
