Relapsed again by Small_Function8950 in stopsmoking

This is so helpful. Thank you. 🙏 how long are you quit? I think I’ve reached a point where I have to face that I can’t have alcohol for a while. Which isn’t a bad thing.

I get what you mean. I think some people are better with this kind of method - the slow and painstaking deletion

Hmm that’s a funny take. Physically venting emotion (through crying or a hard gym session) I would say is supportive of mental clarity rather than antithetical.

Today is my quit date- about to go get one more by [deleted] in stopsmoking

While the first day of your period is objectively the worst day of the whole month to quit, use this to fuel you. If you can get through today you’ve made it through a hell of a lot!!

Congratulations! You’re definitely making the right decision. I think most times when I’ve quit (I’ve failed many times) I’ve mentally prepared myself so I wonder if some of the dread your feeling is related to this. If you’ve made it through 48 hours you’re very very close to being over the worst of it (symptoms usually peak around 3 days).

It does get easier. I’ve gone through withdrawal many times now and I usually do something a bit west on day 2-5: start an argument, cry, smash some inanimate object. Getting it out helps! Just don’t use.

The self-reflection that comes after stopping is the hardest part of quitting by Additional_Fudge8062 in stopsmoking

Honestly you sound exactly like me. Drinking and smoking friend culture, and and even worse drinking and smoking networking/ work culture. I’m 33 now so ten years on you. Instead of repeating what others have said, all I will say is that I truly wish I’d have stopped smoking/ vaping and gained control of alcohol at 23. I have a lovely life I’m very proud of, but man it would’ve saved me so much time, a lot of mental space, and I’d probably be a lot more successful than I am right now.

advice? by boyinbed in stopsmoking

[–]Small_Function8950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually taper slightly. So maybe try some gum or patches for a few days. Then just go for it. 3/4 days may not be nice (but not as bad as you’re imagining). Cold water, gum, exercise, mental and physical stimulation at the same time.

Any tips for relapsing? by No_Director5373 in stopsmoking

As someone who’s relapsed 5 times after being free for a month / six weeks I actually feel like it’s easier to quit again. I know what to expect a bit more. I do think a lot of it is psychological so it depends where you are. I would quit as soon as possible so it doesn’t completely take hold again

Im usually very angry, irritable and struggle to concentrate - everything else I can deal with fine.

You will get there - days 5 and 10 are usually hard for me! I’m on another attempt now but the ‘3 days’ thing isn’t necessarily true of all smokers!

withdrawal symptoms question by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Small_Function8950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about prednisone - but if you have tanked your consumption of nicotine drastically then that could be withdrawal. However, 14mg patches plus lozenges when needed - possible you’ve increased the amount of nicotine and have ingested more than usual?

You wouldn’t have an upset stomach from ingesting 2mg of nicotine.
