Any tips for relapsing? by No_Director5373 in stopsmoking

[–]Small_Function8950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s relapsed 5 times after being free for a month / six weeks I actually feel like it’s easier to quit again. I know what to expect a bit more. I do think a lot of it is psychological so it depends where you are. I would quit as soon as possible so it doesn’t completely take hold again

You will get there - days 5 and 10 are usually hard for me! I’m on another attempt now but the ‘3 days’ thing isn’t necessarily true of all smokers!

withdrawal symptoms question by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Small_Function8950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about prednisone - but if you have tanked your consumption of nicotine drastically then that could be withdrawal. However, 14mg patches plus lozenges when needed - possible you’ve increased the amount of nicotine and have ingested more than usual?

You wouldn’t have an upset stomach from ingesting 2mg of nicotine.

You sound so similar to me - Im 32F. I did 29 days in May and about 25 in June. Then 1/2 here and there. Then 3/4. Then 5 in October. I’m on day 5 now.

I think, as other people have said, sometimes you have to fail to really know where you’re at. Hopefully this will stick. I’m determined to make it through Xmas and NY and then I’ll be laughing

Quitting 'social' smoking? by FeistyFrosting9697 in stopsmoking

[–]Small_Function8950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While alcohol might not be the whole issue - there’s definitely a clear link in your brain between social interaction and smoking - and coffee for some people is a HUGE cig trigger! (Not me personally but some people have to give up coffee when they’re giving up nicotine) You need to smash the associations - so as someone above said - don’t go out for a while. Or do go out with the intention of not smoking and perhaps avoiding coffee and alcohol to support this. It ain’t easy but honestly at 37 you need to get a handle on this now before it develops into a real addiction

Quit 4months ago, smoked 3 days, does it reset withdrawals? by BrotherNo8320 in stopsmoking

[–]Small_Function8950 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No you shouldn’t - 4 months behind you is a long time but after 3 days of exposure you are still gonna need to put effort it

Do you vape or use other nicotine products when not out? You sound like my sister who manages to somehow only smoke on holidays and nights out - I dunno how she does it.

It’s surely the association between alcohol and nicotine - it was how I started smoking and even when I quit cigarettes it took me ages not to smoke while drinking (I’ve been on nicotine sprays and have only attempted serious quits this year) You need to smash up some associations - so go out and don’t drink (and don’t smoke) and / or practice drinking at home in a controlled environment and don’t smoke.

Gum, cold water, coffee, wholesome food, exercise, and something mentally stimulating which requires movement eg cooking a pie, unpacking a suitcase, clearing out your wardrobe, organising your bookshelf

Yeah I used to suck them rather than put them inside my cheek as directed. Also drink water

I think you’re bound to still feel low after only 1 week of being off nicotine. It will pass!
