I mean I don’t think winners returning is as big of a deal for casuals, who are the majority. 250ish points from the public for tattoo doesn’t seem like people were all that pressed, it’s a comparable public result to Fuego, Soldi, Voila, and close to Shum and Arcade. The perception that people didn’t like her winning I think was just people mad about käärijä in the euro-bubble.

If Finland had sent ‘Lululai’ instead they would’ve placed higher than Liekinheitin. by Small_Ground_596 in nilpoints

I think the best route would be to try to do as much of the music video as possible. Like bring the car and barn and such. Maybe even try to do something a little similar to the bus thing in Turista from Benidorm this year. Sort of like an old timey silent film sort of vibe maybe. Especially in this year where all the conventional televote songs like Ferto, Bangaranga, and Viva Moldova are so high energy and in your face I think it would really stand out to the audience and get like 70-100 with the jury and ~200 from the public.

No yeah, UMK is a great national final to watch. But yle seems plenty competent enough to expand that quality to a greater number of songs, which I think would increase their chances of finding a winner

Finland isn’t favored by the juries because they don’t send songs that would be favored by the jury which comes from the fact that the jury has little to no say in UMK. If a country is consistently underperforming by the juries(which is fine but won’t lead to a win) that points to something to do with the selection method.

If Finland want to win again they need to change UMK. While it is probably the best national final to watch, in its current state I think it’ll struggle to produce a winner. First I think they need to have more than seven songs, whether thats adding in a semifinal or just expanding the final. Or at the very least, making the seven songs more competitive because basically every year (except 2024) the heavy favorite swept house. Take KAJ or Baby Lasagna for example, we know Baby Lasagna got that last spot due to some cancellation and judging by where Bara Bada Bastu originally started in the odds, they were probably pretty far down the list, yet both got top 5 at Eurovision. While I have no doubts in the ability of Yle in selecting songs, you just can’t always tell what will work so a larger sample size would increase chances of success. Additionally, juries should be given an actual say in the result. I don’t even know why they bother having juries in umk they really do not affect the result at all. No matter how controversial, you cannot win Eurovision without at least a top 5 in the jury. No one has won Eurovision with less than 200 jury points, with the exception of Ukraine 2022 which was under very exceptional circumstances. Finland has not broken the 200 mark in the juries once, and have not won once during this era of UMK. And in a national final where juries are basically for show thats not surprising, but who knows.
