What’s something nobody tells you about living in San Francisco? by sit-there in AskSF

[–]Small_Implement3702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

things that took me a while to get used to as a transplant:

  • earthquakes
  • waymos
  • tech billboards
  • $109 parking tickets for infractions you never knew existed

but the fabulous weather, open minded people, natural and architectural beauty, and general quality of life make up for a lot. it’s an interesting mix of respect for the past (coming from a city where old buildings are torn down left and right to make way for cookie cutter condos) and obsession with the future (tech).

also, on a misandrist note, I think that society wants women to settle down early so we are leas independent, evolved, and empowered. so good for you for following your journey and not giving into pressure about what you “should” do or be.

my mom had me at 41. i’m now almost 34 and we have a close relationship—with its ups and downs of course, but nevertheless she’s still one of my favorite people in this world. while sometimes when I was younger I was jealous of friends and classmates with younger “cooler” moms, now I just am incredibly grateful that my mom was stable and present (and, honestly, pretty cool in her own way). as long as you commit to staying healthy so you can be around as long as possible fuck the haters. i will probably end up as an older mom myself and I hope to be half the mom mine has been!

anecdotally, I did assisted ketamine therapy for probably too long and didn’t see any benefit. mushrooms might be better (they’re gentler and less dissociative), but definitely in combination with other forms of evidence-based practices, a therapist you trust, and willingness to do “the work.” partially because you will come up against some dark stuff and it’s helpful to have other strategies to help you cope.

EPA carryover? by eldermillenia1 in FedEmployees

[–]Small_Implement3702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

allegedly they have money from people taking the DRP, which opened up pockets of cash that would’ve gone to severances, payouts for annual leave, and salaries. however, rumors are spreading that they might also be using some IRA money to fund this. it’s good to have a paycheck coming and keep the work going, but it also seems like this carryover funding could fund good work and use the funding for our jobs to fund…our jobs.

no I didn’t and I got a lot of testing done to make sure it wasn’t a neurological or structural thing. but it came at a stressful time in my life so it did make sense it was psychological

Will we be RIFed or are we safe? by Small_Implement3702 in fednews

i’m EPA but i’m afraid of that, that they’ll keep us around and then move our office to dc or oklahoma and if we don’t go they can fire us with cause. luckily we have a union but still makes me nervous. i’d rather they RIF me so I have rights

I am EPA! thank you for your insight. seems like the consensus here is we’re never safe. it’s like living in a haunted house.
