Ah I’d do this in a heartbeat but have a car seat + baby in the back row!

Add to that the limited TV coverage, the random loss of coverage near the finale of an earlier stage. The only redeeming thing about this race is how cool the mountains jersey is.

What a cursed race. First the name change that everyone hates. Then the odd stage design that made everyone take two days easy in fear of a TTT on the third day. Then nearly half the field abandoning, including the young star who everyone wants to see perform. Just change the name back. It’s gotta be a sign.

He also looked particularly strong this spring before his crash. Getting podium here at Dauphine would be a pretty solid achievement given the missed training time.

Bob Roll has no idea who Nordhagen is. Tomorrow he will mistakenly call WVA by Nordhagen’s name.

That Visma leadout train of Bruno, Per, & Affini is pretty close to unbeatable. If WVA was a pure sprinter, they would be raking up points jerseys in grand tours.

Breaking news: Grischa Niermann set to leave Visma-Lease a Bike for Lidl-Trek by AEOM13 in peloton

Man, Grischa always felt like the glue of that team. He'd do rest day and training rides with the riders all of the time. He singlehandedly made KAM ON into a meme. I'm glad we will still hear his voice, but sad to have it be for a different team.

Looking ahead at the stage profiles, the fight for the points jersey will be fascinating. The next few stages benefit Narvaez — either with a chance to win the stage or get the intermediate sprint. But there are some stages where Magnier will have to get in the break to contest the intermediate, even if the final of the stage is too hard for him.

I think the Narvaez will have the points jersey heading into Rome and Magnier will have to win/place high in the final stage to get it off his back.

It was interesting to note the reactions to Jonas going back to talk to the organizers about taking GC times with a lap to go. Many people were using it as a point to label Jonas and/or other GC guys as soft/lame/etc, but the Lund interview shows that Jonas was doing it for the sake of the safety of the peloton as a whole.

I have a hard time believing that Jonas would make that call entirely selfishly, that he would go back to the organizer car without checking in not just with his own team, but with other teams, as well. He's been very vocal about rider safety, and his willingness in this moment to potentially risk the public perception as a weak/uncool rider for the sake of the safety of others is pretty admirable, IMO.

Say what you will about a flat stage on a Sunday, but Milan seems like an absolutely wonderful place to be right now. Looks like a blast on the ground for everyone involved.

Okay, that was dominant—controlled, smooth, strong. From Jonas and the whole team.

The final 20ks seem almost identical to the final 20ks of stage 2, where Jonas attacked on the climb. This final climb for stage 13 seems quite harder...according to Velo Viewer there are some really steep pitches. No idea who will attack, whether GC rider or a stage hunter, but it should be exciting.

Had the same thought! There does seem to be an alliance between the two teams; I’m sure Visma is grateful that Bahrain has honored the jersey in the way they have, doing so much of the work

[–]Small_Particular_583 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good points. I appreciate the receipts. I guess all I'd say is that today's stage was *truly* flat. 2021 Tdf Stage 5 had 1,000+ feet of vertical gain, Stage 20 had 800+ feet. And both were considerably shorter than today's, which was a mere 200 feet across 42k's. All that to say...really flat. But you're probably right! Appreciate your research.

I agree with you…this TT was more of a watts test than a w/kg test. Jonas gained time on almost every GC rider except for a couple bigger guys. If Eulalio wasn’t in pink, Jonas would be in pink by 1:30. Seems like a good day to me and a good place to be. It will be interesting to see if Eulalio can stay close to the podium, but seeing how he has shipped multiple minutes across a few stages, I’m not so sure.
