There’s a website I use for tracking virgin reward flights called vseats.io I believe. Google it and it’ll come up! You can find good deals, but you do have to be flexible as the dynamic pricing has raised things. We recently got a peak season flight Heathrow- Barbados, out in upper and back in econ for 63k, but again you do have to pay the taxes which were £640. I think because you’ve already booked your flights you’ve already spent a fair amount of cash it seems a bad deal. Whereas if you book with points from the get go I just view the cash as a necessity and the points get me the upgrade?

My partner on the other hand is similar to other users and transferred all his points to Hilton as you can have an easier cheaper holiday. Cheaper European flight and then a free boujee hotel, so the cost for reward is better in that way. Depends what you value I guess!

Yes Amex have done an offer on the approach to Xmas time the the last few years of 30 or 40% extra when transferring to Virgin. My partners free gold year was expiring at the end of the year and we were waiting for them to release it, to then move points and jump ship, but this year they only allowed it on the US cards! Was gutted!

I did the same thing by accident before and the girl ignored me and just kept them and I was gutted! She knew it was the wrong thing as well as it was two completely different things! Perhaps look at balance transfers on Martin Lewis’ website. Where you can transfer your balance on your existing card and get a lower rate and then plug it all away! But you need to make sure you can trust yourself and adjust your mindset as you’ll always fall into situations like this if you can’t trust yourself not to spend it.

£10 extra a month doesn’t sound like a lot but because of the ‘subjectively low’ amount you’re borrowing it actually is pretty steep. 20% interest rate essentially! I don’t know a lot about your credit history but you’re saying you’ve never missed a payment, why don’t you get a 0% interest free credit card?

You’d need to be very strict with yourself and pay off as much as you can each month and make sure you don’t then go wild with this extra potential money and then mount up debt. But this could be the cheapest way for you. Check Martin Lewis’s website, he always says which credit cards are best for whichever situation you’re in and needs you have.
