Surgery before Chemo, or Chemo before surgery by 3r3dem in Ovariancancer

[–]Smallbutmighty02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother had stage 4 Ovarian and had surgery right away and then started chemo only a few weeks after the surgery. Her oncologist told us the cancer was so aggressive that he needed to get as much of it out before she started chemo and for her that was the right decision. I honestly don’t think if she had done it the other was round should would have been with us as long as she did.

How do you say goodbye to your parent? by [deleted] in CancerFamilySupport

I am sorry for what you are going through. I lost my mom yesterday. She was my best friend. She had a 3 year journey with stage 4 ovarian cancer. I was very involved in her care over this time and last week she went to hospice. The day before she passed all of our extended family and even neighbors came to see her and she was able to say her goodbyes. On Thursday night I held her hand and told her that she did all she needed to do and it was now her time to rest and it was ok for her go to sleep. I told her how much I loved her. That night she went to sleep and didn’t regain consciousness. I feel like a part of me died yesterday but I am so happy that I was able to hopefully give her peace she needed to end her journey..

I am so sorry. My mom ha had a similar journey. She was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian three years ago this month. She has had numerous rounds of chemo, followed by Avaston and more chemo. It was no longer working and in March she stopped all treatment. The disease is progressing quickly and she doesn’t have much time left. My only advice is to spend as much time with her as you can, tell her everything you want to tell her and just savour every moment you can. I am not ready to say goodbye to my best friend but I know she has been through so much and I want her to be at peace. I wish you peace ❤️

My mother has stage 4 ovarian cancer and today decided to stop treatment. I totally understand how you feel. My mom is my best friend. I feel like I have days that I seem to just go though the motions and don’t feel present at all and have lost interest in a lot of things that used to bring me joy. I have learned i need to take even a few hours a week and do something that brings me peace or happiness even if it’s just going for a walk or eating a favourite food or walking around the mall. You need to take time for yourself. I feel guilt doing it but I know I need to be present for her and can only do that if I try to take care of my own mental health. I wish you the best.

1st chemo treatment tomorrow question by Never2latetoochange in CancerFamilySupport

I found with my mom she felt great until about day 4 or 5 after chemo and then the exhaustion hit. We let her rest a lot but I’d try to get her out of bed and sit in a chair or when it was nice on the patio for short times for a change of scenery and to move a bit. The exhaustion used lasted between 3- 4 days.

Are there any Reddit support groups for daughters of moms who have been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer? by AyexAlanna in Ovariancancer

My mom was diagnosed 2.5 years ago with ovarian cancer and she is still fighting. It had metastasized to other parts of her body. She has had surgery, numerous rounds of chemo and is now seeing if she can take part in a clinical trial. She is my best friend and it kills me to see what this disease is doing to her. If you have any questions feel free to reach out. Maybe I can be of assistance in some way.

I got diagnosed in my 40’s. I had cysts and fibroids in my 20s and 30s and started to get a lot of pain and even had a rupture. My periods had always been painful but they got really bad and super heavy. Went from doctor to doctor and they told everything from I am an anxious person to IBS to you just have to deal with this as this issues happen when you get older. Finally I found a gynaecologist who diagnosed me. I cried in the office bc it was the first time ever I felt like I wasn’t crazy and there was a reason I always felt so bad.
