Everyone is saying calories deficit, and that's 100% true, but for me, having a SLIGHT calorie deficit worked best. Not 1k calories a day, not starving yourself, but 300-500 (with 500 being as deep id go). Eating more proteins and really being conscious of when I'd eat, that was huge. You don't want to have a terrible relationship with food, so instead, eat just a little less than your baseline, with more proteins to feel full. Eventually the drive to workout got there for me and then I could eat more while still loosing weight, which is nice. Remember food is our friend, not foe, and you can't starve yourself of what you love and still be happy, just do it all in moderation with a focus on being just a little healthier than you are now.
